“Could I watch one show f ” I asked. “NO!” she replied (angry).
“You watch TV all the time and never help out around the house! I can’t work all day and do housework all evening.”
“Well, I work all day at school, too! I’m just as tired you are!” I shouted back.
My mom did not say anything and walked away. For one week, she did not do any housework and n did I. Finally, I could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt.

Dear Sir,
I don’t understand some parents make their kids help with housework and chores at home. Kids these days already have enough (压力)from school. They don’t have time to study and do housework, too. Housework is a (浪费) of their time. Could we just let them do their job as students They should spend their time schoolwork in order to get good grades and get into a good (大学) . Also, when they get older, they will have to do housework so there’s no need for them to do it now. It is the parents’ job to provide a clean and (舒适的) environment at home for their children. And anyway, I think doing chores is not so difficult. I don’t mind (do) them.
Mr. Smith
Dear Sir,
I think it is important for children (learn) how to do chores and help their parents with housework. It’s not enough to just get good grades at school. Children these days d on their parents too much. They’re always asking, “Could you get this for me ” or “Could you help me with that ” Doing chores ( help ) to develop children’s (independent) and teaches them how to look after themselves. It also helps them to understand the idea of (fair) . Since they live in one house with their parents, they should know everyone should do their part in keeping it clean and tidy. Our neighbor’s son got into a good college during his first year, he had no idea how to take care
of (him) . As a result, he often fell ill and his grades (drop) . The (early) kids learn to be independent, the better it is for their future.
Ms. Miller
Passage C
Dear Mr. Hunt,
My problem is I can’t get on my family. (relate) between my parents have become difficult. They fight a lot, and I really don’t like it. It’s the only (communicate) they have. It’s not easy (be)your age, and it’s (普遍的)to have these feelings. Why don’t you talk about these feelings with your family If your parents are having problems, you should o to help. Maybe you could do more jobs around the house so that they have (many)time for proper communication. (其次), why don’t you sit down and communicate with your brother You should (解释) that you don’t mind him watching TV all the time. However, he should let you watch your favorite show. I hope things will be ( good) for you soon.
Robert Hunt
Passage D
Maybe You Should Learn to Relax!
These days, Chinese children are sometimes (busy ) on weekends than weekdays because they have to take so many after-school (class). Many of them are learning exam skills that they can get into a good high school and later a good university. Others are (practice)sports so that they can (竞争)and
win. However, this doesn’t only happen in China.
The Taylors are a ( type) American family. Life for Cathy Taylor’s three children is very busy.” On most days after school,” Cathy says, “I take one of my two boys to basketball practice and my daughter to football training. (然后) I have to take my other son to piano lessons. Maybe I could cut out a few of their (activity) , but I believe these activities are important my children’s future. I really want them to be (success ) . ” However, the tired children don’t get home after 7:00 p.m. They have a quick dinner, and then it’s time for homework.
Linda Miller, a mother ofthree, knows all about such (压力). “In some families, (compete)starts very young and continues until the kids get (old),” she says. “Mothers send their small kids to all kinds of classes. And they are always comparing them with other children. It’s crazy. I don’t think that’s fair. Why don’t they just let their kids be kids People shouldn’t push their kids so hard.”
Doctors say too much pressure is not good for a child’s development. Dr. Alice Green says all these activities can cause a lot of stress for children. “Kids should have time to relax and think for themselves, too. Although it’s normal to want successful children, it’s even more important to have happy children.”

Passage B
Every day before I went to school, my mother had to leave early for work. She had to walk half an hour to get to the bus stop. We really thought it was terrible that there wasn’t a bus stop near our street.
At school, we learned about the public transportation system ( 公 共 交 通 系 统 ). The government spends a lot of money on it, and the money comes from taxes (税款). An idea came to me: people in my community pay taxes. This is a public transportation system. It should come closer to our homes.
My mother agreed that would be great. But she said it would take more than one family to get the bus line to change.
I talked with my teacher about the idea and she liked it. Our class surveyed (调查) all our parents. We found that 90% of the parents would use the bus more if it was easier to get to. We also found that only 20% of the parents could get to it easily, just by walking 10 minutes. For all the others, it took between 15 and 30 minutes.
We made a map. We showed how the bus route (路线) could be changed to reach people better in our community. Then our teacher took us to meet the alderman (市政委员会委员).
The alderman was impressed by us. She said we had done a really good job of finding out the problem and trying to solve it. She promised to talk with the head of the transportation office.
Months later, just when we were giving up, our teacher got a call from the transportation office. They said we were getting the change we asked for.
Now my mother only has to walk ten minutes to get to the bus stop. So she can leave home later. She always says, “I am so glad you got the bus route changed.”

Passage C
Several Asian hospitals are doing experiments with tele-medicine. Tele-medicine is a kind of technology that allows doctors to “see” patients without being in the same place. It is possible
through high-speed communication networks. At both ends of the line, the way of video-meeting lets them see and talk to each other. Blood pressure and body temperature are directly shown on computers.
Tele-medicine has already been widely used in some countries such as the United States and Germany. Among other uses, village doctors hold “ consultations( 会 诊 ) ” with far-away experts(专家). The experts can also help them during operations.
Tele-medicine has been slowing to reach Asia because of high costs, besides other reasons. When things are improved, this kind of technology will develop very fast. Chinese University of Hong Kong’s medical school has joined a big hospital in Beijing, and Thailand is building a tele-medicine station connecting 20 areas.
Tele-medicine will do good to patients because doctors from different places can see them and give their medical advice. The help is quite important if the disease is an unusual one. It also helps spread medical knowledge among experts.
As tele-medicine develops well, its costs will be lower and it will become more popular in the medical field.
1. Does tele-medicine allow doctors to “see ” patients without being in the same place
2. Where has the tele-medicine already been widely used
3. Why does tele-medicine develop slowly in Asia besides other reasons
4.What does Chinese University of Hong Kong ’s medical school have done according to the passage
5. How many areas will be connected if the Thailand tele-medicine station completes

With age, it's common for adolescents to encounter difficulties communicating with their parents, resulting in an increasing tension between the two generations. One of the primary reasons for this phenomenon is the changing values and interests as the youth grow. Adolescents tend to develop their own independent views and pursuits, while parents may hold onto traditional beliefs and expectations. This discrepancy often leads to misunderstandings and conflicts.
To address this issue, it's essential to establish open communication channels. Both parents and children should make efforts to understand each other's perspectives and be willing to listen to each other's opinions. Additionally, parents can encourage their children to share their thoughts and feelings, creating a safe and supportive environment for open dialogue. Moreover, adolescents should also demonstrate respect for their parents' opinions and experiences, even if they disagree with them.
By fostering a culture of mutual understanding and respect, parents and adolescents can bridge the gap between the two generations, fostering a stronger and more harmonious relationship.
