There's no doubt that music can lift our spirits, and a study shows that it can also help deal with phys cal pain.
Listening to favorite songs could help people feel less pain, according to a new study that appeared in Frontiers in Pain Research last October. And the most helpful songs were found to be sad ones describing bittersweet(苦乐参半的) and moving experiences.
The study invited 63 young adults to bring two of their favorite songs. The researchers also provided seven relaxing songs and asked the participants(参与者) to choose one from them.
Each participant was asked to stare at a screen for 7 minutes while listening to their favorite songs, one of the seven relaxing songs, or a mixed version of their favorite songs and the relaxing song they chose (they were cut into pieces and then mixed up together). For another 7 minutes, they just sat in silence. All the while, the researchers stuck a hot object to the young adults’ left arms —— similar to
the pain of a boiling hot teacup on your skin.
After interviewing the participants about the songs and their degrees of pain, the researchers found people felt less pain when listening to their favorite songs compared with hearing the relaxing song or nothing. The mixed songs didn’t work either. And people who listened to sad songs felt less pain than those listened to cheerful songs.
“It's a very cool result,” said Darius Valevicius, one of the researchers. “I think it explains why so many people, including me, enjoy listening to sad music.”

It's easy to hear one side of a story about a person and judge(评价) the person right away. 36 If your friend just had an argument with someone and told you the person's faults(缺点), you might begin to develop a sense of hate against the person. But here's the truth: every argument has more than one side that needs to be considered.
37 When you only listen to one side of a story, it's like watching a movie, but only some certain scenes. This way, you'll miss many parts that can influence your understanding of the whole story. By learning both sides of a story, you can get a clearer picture of it and a better understanding of people's relationships.
For example, your sister is now upset because she didn't get the invitation to her friend's birthday party. 38 But, what if her friend only invited her family to the party Her friend didn’t want your sister to feel uncomfortable at the party so she didn’t invite her. Then you’ll understand how thoughtful her friend is. 39
Remember that there are always two sides of a story. It's certainly not wise to consider only one side of the story. Judging someone before hearing the whole story is dangerous. 40 Don't make such mistakes and never judge others before walking in their shoes.
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使文章意思通顺、内容完整。
A. It's so common that we've all probably done that.

C. In doing so, you might pass the truth and make serious mistakes.

The most valuable thing I have achieved in the past is persistence. Never will I forget the first time when I took part in the 3-kilometer running race last year. Although it was difficult for me to make it, I still decided to sign up because of all my friends’ encouragement. In the beginning, I regarded it as a challenge, which also helped put me one step closer to my goal. So I made an effort to practice running every morning. No matter how hard the training was, I never thought of giving up halfway. In the end, I got a satisfactory result in the race. From this experience, I’ve learned that persistence is the key to success. We can achieve our goal if we work persistently.
