But like many other traditional arts, it’s in danger of disappearing as modern entertainment has come into people’s life. Some local artists are working hard to make sure that this won’t happen.
Wang Shadow Play has 300 years of history. Wang Biao, 7th generation (一代人), said, “Wang Shadow Play was performed at the Golden Hall in Vienna in the 1980s and won a gold at an international competition.”
But the traditional art didn’t become popular with the rise of television and Radio. One day, when Wang Biao was buying a shadow play gift at a store in Beijing, he found an old photo of his grandfather performing at the Golden Hall. (23-24九年级上·重庆沙坪坝·期末)①Qinqiang Opera is one of the carliest forms of opera in China. It started from the ancient folk songs and dances of the Han people in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. According to historical records, the local opera dates all the way back to the Qin Dynasty. Qinqiang Opera shows the daily life and feelings of ancient Chinese people. Androclus gave a great cry, but not out of fear. It was his old friend, the lion in the forest. People saw Androclus put his arms around the lion’s neck. In return, the lion licked him lovingly. They could not understand what was happening.
“No man wants to be my friend. Only this poor lion is kind to me,” Androclus explained. At that moment, people were not so unkind as their fathers and grandfathers had been. “Give them both freedom!” they cried.
In the end, both Androclus and the lion were set free and they kept each other as friends. Afterwards, they lived in Rome for many years.
