I realized that my work was very hard, but our whole family had been depending on the hard work of my parents. Dad never complained about unfairness. He even seemed to think that was fair. I thought, “I’ve only worked for two weeks, but how many years has my father worked ” In the evening, Dad came back. I proudly took out my own money and handed it to him.

Jarrett was testing his mountain bike outside of the city when he suddenly stopped. There was something in the distance, moving among the trees. It was a five-month-old dog.
The poor dog was really thin. His ribs (肋骨) were showing and he had a lot of road rashes (皮疹) as well as a broken leg. Jarrett fed him and shared water with him.

With the dog secured, Jarrett cycled back into town to get more water and food for the dog.

That was when Andrea, a corporate lawyer from Maine in town on business, happened by. The dog made a beeline (径直奔向) for her, and licked her fingers. Read the following text and practice writing the reasonable story endings according to what we have just learnt.
Ruby Kate had long been close to older folks. Her mother, Amanda Chitsey, was a nurse who worked at nursing homes, and Ruby Kate often stayed with her in the summer.
Last May, Ruby Kate noticed a resident named Pearl always in sadness. “Why are you so sad ” Ruby Kate asked her. Pearl said she was watching her dog being led away by his new owner after a visit.
Ruby Kate and Amanda asked around and discovered that the nursing home didn’t allow residents to have pets, and Pearl couldn’t afford to pay anyone to look after hers. They also learned that many nursing home residents were unable to afford even the smallest luxuries. So Ruby Kate decided to do something about it.

She started by asking residents what three things they wanted most in the world. To her surprise, they only asked for chocolate bars, McDonald’s fries, pants that fit properly, and even just a prayer.
Ruby Kate and Amanda left the nursing home that day and went straight to a store and bought as many items as they could.
Using their own money, Ruby Kate and Amanda granted the wishes of about 100 people in three months. Then they started asking for donations. People responded so enthusiastically that Amanda set up a GoFundMe page: Three Wishes for Ruby’s Residents.

Their first goal was to collect $5,000. To their surprise, they hit it in a month. After GoFundMe named Ruby Kate a Kid Hero and promoted her story internationally, Three Wishes raised $20,000 in 24 hours and more than $250,000 in five months. With those funds, the Chitseys were able to get more creative. One resident asked for personal space, so they got him a Walkman and stocked his fridge with snacks. Another wanted to go to a friend’s out-of-state wedding, so they gave her money for gas and food.

Later, Three Wishes for Ruby’s Residents became non-profit and launched its first nationwide chapters. One of its new goals was to set up a communal (公共的) laptop in one nursing home in each state. Ruby Kate didn’t plan to stop there.
