Life’s greatest lesson for Granny Hu can be found in a cup of the green tea she has grown and spent most of her life: the bitter comes before the sweet, and she has known both. She was good at growing things from at least age 14. She loved the soil and worked in her gardens until she was 113. “My grandma is quick-witted and hard-working. She was better at planting crops than others, so in the years when there were shortages of food she was able to support the family,” his grandson said. Granny Hu is the oldest person in her village and she experienced all the hardships during the life. “I have lost my husband, my children and my brothers, but I couldn’t lose myself in sadness. Luckily, I can always find love in my family and that is how I was encouraged to carry on.”
Another centenarian (百岁老人) , Granny Yang, gave birth to eight children. “In the darkest days, we didn’t have enough food to support the big family, so I went into the mountains to look for food to feed my children instead of giving them away, as many people did,” she said, “no one in my family was allowed to shout or scream at each other. My children grew up in peace.” What’s more, she helped her children get a better education. “Education is the best soil to support children’s growth and will improve themselves for a lifetime.”
The poor life inspires a strong wish for change. That’s the most important lesson that Grandpa Dong said he has learned in life. Like most older people in China, he expected to spend his life farming. However, because of the wars, he was driven out of his farm. He spent nearly 10 years to make his way home. The condition in his home was more terrible than that before he left. To improve the poor life, he left his farm again to look a new way to make a living. He did business and he finally made a comfortable living. This 108-year-old man gives his advice to others: “Don’t be afraid of change.”
All these centenarians have one thing in common—The quickest way to happiness and long life is to do nothing negative. Have a joyful heart and be kind to others. If you want to live up to be 100 years old, try their ways!

A man was walking through an elephant camp and found that the elephants weren’t being kept in cages or held by chains. All that was holding them back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.
As the man looked at the elephants, he couldn’t understand it. Why didn’t the elephants just use their strength (力量) to break the rope and escape They could easily have done so, but instead, they didn’t try to at all.
Wanting to know the answer, he asked a trainer nearby why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape.
“When they were very young and much smaller we used the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it was enough to hold them. As they grew up, they still believed they couldn’t break away. They believed the rope could still hold them, so they never tried to break free.” The trainer answered.
The man was speechless. These animals could have broken free whenever they wanted, but it was just because over time, they had the belief that it just wasn’t possible.
How many of us go through life like the elephants—holding onto the belief that we cannot do some-thing simply because we failed at it once or twice or sometimes before

(2024·江西鹰潭·一模)Imagine that you have woken up on the first day of your vacation. You enjoy a delicious breakfast, take a walk on the beach, and read the morning newspaper as you drink coffee. You are feeling happy and relaxed. But you may start to feel bored by the time the late afternoon comes around!
If you have ever felt like this, you’re not alone. It turns out that having unlimited (无限的) free time is not always as great as we expected. What is the best amount (数量) of free time for our happiness
Researchers tried to answer this question by surveying tens of thousands of people, collecting data (数据) on how they spent their time and how happy they were. After looking at the data, the research team found that having less than two hours of free time a day, was not enough to be happy. People with under two hours of free time a day usually had more stress. It means that they were simply too busy with work to get their happiness.
The fact that being too busy cuts happiness is true. It might lead to the answer that more free time is simply better. Surprisingly, having a lot of free time is not a panacea (灵丹妙药) for happiness. People surely get a certain sense of joy from finishing tasks. Having more than five hours of free time a day makes us lose the sense of joy. It is in fact cutting our happiness. But I think it is how we spend our free time that matters. When free time is used in more active ways, like playing a team sport, then five or more hours a day can keep of even produce happiness. However, spending five or more hours of free time alone can stop happiness.

Are you a procrastinator (拖延者) Are you putting off going to the gym Have you seldom cleaned your rooms in time Are you waiting just one more day to study for that test Procrastination is putting off to later what you know you should be doing now. But all those tasks you push to tomorrow can make their way into your mind. And that could harm your health.
In one study, scientists connected procrastination to many problems. These included depression (沮丧), nervousness and even arm pain. “I was surprised when I saw that one,” says Fred Johansson. The psychologist (心理学家) and his team reported the results in a newspaper.
The study is one of the largest so far to deal with procrastination’s ties to health. For years, scientists didn’t seem to view procrastination as something serious. This new study could change that.
The study followed about 2,500 students over nine months. They found that procrastinators perform worse over time than those who did things without delay (延迟). For instance, they were more worried, depressed and sleep-deprived (睡眠不足的).
From this type of study, the team can’t say for sure that putting things off causes poor health. But results from other research teams seem to point in the same direction. One 2021 study tied procrastinating at bedtime to depression. And a 2015 study connected procrastinating to poor heart health. According to Fuschia Sirois, a scientist at Durham University in England, the harmful effects of procrastination could build up over time. Procrastination alone may not cause disease, however it could be “one factor that can tip the scales (扭转局势).”

There is no doubt that technology has had a big influence on our lives. People from all around the world can now talk to each other almost at once on mobile phones and the Internet. People can easily solve their problems with the help of computers and the world wide web. With this technology, it seems that the world is more connected now than ever before. Even so, there have been worries about technology making people feel lonely and disconnected from others around them.
So does this mean that technology makes us lonely
In my opinion, it is hard to say Yes or No.
It’s true that humans need communication with each other. If we depend on technology too much to communicate, this can badly impact our mental (心理的) health. For me, technology is a tool. And just like any other kind of tool—like scissors, a pencil or a ruler, for example, it depends on how we use it: in a right way or in a right place. Take social media (社交媒体) as an example. If you only use it to compare yourself with others, you might feel sad and lonely. But if you use it as a tool to connect with friends and family or to start a new community to talk about your hobbies and interests, the loneliness will turn into love and friendship.
When you feel lonely after staring at your computer screen all day, maybe you can use that technology to reach out to a reliable (可靠的) friend and invite him or her out for lunch or a coffee.
6.What is the effect of technology in our lives according to the passage
A.We can read electronic books. B.We can solve our problems on the Internet.

C.It is a pair of scissors. D.It is a way of communication.

A.Connect. B.Protect. C.Influence. D.Enter.
10.Which can be a proper title for the text
A.Social Media is Important to Us B.Technology Can be Good and Bad
C.Computers and the Internet Help Us D.People Need to Communicate with Each Other

11.Which is not true about Granny Hu
