In many movies, the clothing the actors wear is an important part of the story. In Rome, there is a workshop that has been a big part of Italian and international film history for 60 years.
Tirelli Costumes in Rome’s Prati neighborhood is an atelier, a business that makes special clothing and costumes. It has earned the nickname the “Oscar tailor’s shop” for its incomparable work in film costume design.
Umberto Tirelli started the shop in November 1964. It has been behind 17 Academy Awards for best costume design. Most recently, its workers helped create the costumes for Ridley Scott’s movie Napoleon. The film’s costume designers were nominated (提名) for an Oscar that will be decided at the Academy Awards in Hollywood this weekend.
At the start, the shop had “a sewing machine, two cutters and two other seamstresses,” Trappetti said.
After the 1984 costume design Oscar for Amadeus, Tirelli could have accepted many international projects “because the market was immediately interested,” Trappetti said. But Tirelli, who died in 1990, was not sure. Trappetti remembered him saying, “I’m not going to America If America wants, America will come looking for me.”
Over 60 years, the tailor’s shop has created more than 300, 000 costumes that are now stored near Rome. Costume designers come for ideas and historical information. They also come for hand-cut, hand-sewn creations by the team of Tirelli workers.
“You can’t make those costumes in a factory. In a factory you can make films with robots, futuristic or fantasy, ” Trappetti said. “But these things have to be made by hand.”

Human experts spend years roasting and tasting coffee from many places to learn about the beans. They might then combine a coffee bean from Africa with another one from South America to come up with a new blend. But, a coffee roasting company in Helsinki, Finland is hoping that artificial intelligence, or AI, can help ease the workload.
Kaffa Roastery recently launched its “AI-conic” blend at the Helsinki Coffee Festival. The blend is a mixture of four kinds of beans, including Fazenda Pinhal from Brazil. It is the result of a joint project by Kaffa and Elev, a local AI business. Elev told The Associated Press that its computer models, similar to ChatGPT and Copilot, created a blend that would “push the boundaries of conventional flavor combinations. ”
Svante Hampf is the founder of Kaffa Roastery. He and his partners wanted to do an experiment to see what blend the computer would produce. “We basically gave descriptions of all our coffee types and their flavors to AI and instructed it to create a new exciting blend, ” Hampf said. The “AI-conic” blend combined beans from Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala. It is described as “a well-balanced blend of sweetness and ripe fruit”.
Hampf said he thought the combination was “somewhat weird. ” He was surprised that the AI program chose to make the blend out of four different kinds of beans. Most humans choose only two or three beans. However, after the first blind test of the new blend, Kaffa’s coffee experts agreed that the AI-assisted blend was perfect. There was no need to change.
Elev’s Antti Merilehto said “AI-conic” is an example of “how AI can introduce new perspectives to seasoned professionals.” And the roasters at Kaffa said they hope the AI project will help to bring more things to the strong coffee culture in the country.

Is climate candy set to be the next trend
LA-based PurePlus says yes. The startup launched its first consumer product, Faven, two years ago. Today, each packet of chews contains one serving of fruits and vegetables and saves scores of produce from ending up in landfill.
According to PurePlus, every Faves packet uses six carrots, three heels, one sweet potato, half a squash and one-fourth of a pumpkin. A lot of the time the products are made with “imperfect” produce. The ultimate aim of the company is to tackle food waste in a meaningful and healthy way.
Co-founder and CEO Amy Keller knows sweets. She’s the granddaughter of Norman Spangler, a second-generation leader at Spangler, a second-generation leader at Spangler Candy Co. Instead of following in her family’s footsteps, she set up PurePlus in 2018. PurePlus works with farmers to secure unsold or unsellable produce to turn into plant-based powders that can be used in multiple food and drink applications.
Around 930 million tonnes of food is wasted every year, twice as much as previous estimates, with 61 percent coming from domestic households, 26 percent comes from food services and retail claims the last 13 percent.
The US Sustainable Development Goals initiative have laid out plans to reduce food waste by half by 2030. It is seeking to tackle the issue due to the increased burden on waste management systems, impact on climate change and food insecurity that it brings. Up to 10 percent of global carbon emissions are tied to waste produce.
PurePlus has so far launched two flavors of its fruit and vegetable chew: strawberry and grape. Developed using its special produce powder and sustainable oil, among other things, they are marketed as healthy alternatives to standard sweet chews.
“Faves has set out to solve the climate crisis by preventing food waste by upcycling perfectly good fruits and vegetables to create a candy that’s good for people and the planet, thus, making both healthy choices and climate impact more accessible,” Amy Keller said in a statement. “We don’t make a product unless it will deliver a real benefit and is truly sustainable. ”

An owl(猫头鹰) named Flaco escaped New York’s Central Park Zoo last week after his cage was broken. This set off a bird- hunt of police officers and park rangers( 护林员). Zoo officials worried that Flaco, who had been kept in his zoo cage for 13 years, may have lost the survival abilities he needed in the wild. They placed some of his favorite treats in the open air to attempt to trap him.
Flaco was not fooled. Instead, he was sighted flying over 5th Avenue, and Central Park’s skating rink. A number of New Yorkers stamped into Central Park to try to catch a glimpse of Flaco, taking photos with excitement.
But this week, zoo officials announced they accepted that Flaco remained in Central Park because he had been seen bringing up bones and fur from the park’s abundant community of rats. “He has been very successful at hunting and consuming the abundant rats in the park.” zoo officials told the New York Post. “And that’s amazing. He’s hunting on his own. He’s flying better. Flaco really seems to be enjoying himself out there.”
There is a caution attached to this story of an owl who is making it on his own in the city that never sleeps. Owls are nocturnal. They go around searching for food at night. They sleep during the day, or try to, like lots of people who work the overnight shift. Yet some New Yorkers who don’t know proper bird-watching behavior reportedly see Flaco sleep in a tree during the day, and begin to shout at him. It interrupts his sleep. Flaco can’t try to say “shh, shh” with the traditional New York reply. After all, a bird can’t give someone the bird.
4. Why were zoo officials concerned about Flaco’s ability to survive
A. Because his favourite food was too little.
B. Because he might be attacked by police.
C. Because his cage was severely damaged.
D. Because he was kept in his cage for long.

Students at Eindhoven University of Technology didn’t just want to build a car that wouldn’t pollute the air; they wanted to create one that could actually clean it up.
The college team has just exhibited a battery-powered car that absorbs CO2. Their car, called the Zem, is equipped with a special filter (过滤器) that cleans up the CO2 produced by other cars on the road.
The Zem was born out of a challenge to build a completely carbon-neutral vehicle. Its body panels (金属板) were 3D printed to reduce waste and minimize the production of CO2. Recycled plastics were also used throughout the outside and inside. The car’s powertrain, which consists of small battery packs and a 22-kWh motor, also makes use of regenerative braking to increase efficiency.
The real difference maker, though, is the vehicle’s special CO2 filter. The Zem purifies (净化) the air through the special filter while driving, capturing the CO2 and storing it. It is able to absorb two kg of CO2 for 20,000 miles a year, meaning ten cars could store as much carbon dioxide as an average tree — a significant amount when considering the world’s billion cars are currently one of its leading sources of emissions.
Even if the technology isn’t adopted, the team hope that their car can inspire automakers to start making cleaner vehicles. “We want to encourage the industry by showing what is already possible,” the leader of the team said. “If 35 students can design, develop and build an almost carbon-neutral car in a year, then there are also opportunities and possibilities for the industry.”
The Zem is the second zero-emission vehicle we’ve seen come out of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Last year, another team of students created the Stella Vita, a solar-powered vehicle that could travel up to 450 miles a day. We can’t wait to see what the school’s students come up with next.

A. It is battery-powered. B. It has a special filter.
C. It is created by using 3D printing. D. It has reusable body panels.
9. What do we know about the building of the Zem
A. It is time-consuming. B. It is financially secure.
C. It is physically demanding. D. It is environmentally-friendly.
10. What can be inferred about the Zem from the fourth paragraph
A. It can capture the CO2 and dispose it.
B. It is able to absorb CO2 as much as a tree.
C. It has a huge potential to reduce pollution.
D. It can run 20,000 miles on a single charge.
11. What does the author expect the students to do
A Invest in research. B. Inspire confidence.
C. Innovate further. D. Introduce technology.

When my Aunt Nicki visits me in London, we avoid musical theater and the cinema. Aunt Nicki is hard of hearing. Although there are many enhanced listening devices available to help her, such as a closed captioning (配字幕的) screen that sits in a cup holder, she tells me they don’t work well enough.
When I recently tried on the new “smart caption glasses” at the Royal National Theatre, I had her on my mind. The theater is testing a pilot program for the technology and plans to make the glasses available for all of its performances next year. When you look through them, closed captions scroll (滚动) across the bottom. A handheld keypad is attached to the glasses through cable (电缆线) to allow each user to customize the color, size and position of the closed captions. Changing the positioning of the text is key for user comfort.
The biggest challenge is finding the sweet spot of balancing the captions in the foreground with the theater performance in the background. The lines of the play are fed into speech software, which follows the performance and adjusts the captions accordingly. “If a performer jumps a few lines, the system will react,” said Jonathan Suffolk, the technical director for the Royal National Theatre. “It will take a second or two but the system will react and it will recognize where it is.”
Richard France — who works for a group called Deafinitely Theatre, which creates performances for both the deaf and hearing communities — has worked with many different technologies but calls the smart glasses a potential game changer. “This new technology allows the deaf and hard of hearing to have complete access,” he said. “It’s really amazing how far we’ve advanced and how it has positively affected the quality of life for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.”
So perhaps the next time Aunt Nicki comes to London, we’ll be able to catch a show together.
12. Why does the author mention Aunt Nicki in paragraph 1
A. To present his opinion. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To provide an example. D. To give the background.
13. How do users control the closed captions on smart glasses
A. By using a handheld keypad. B. By turning on the hidden text.
C. By scrolling across the bottom. D. By sending speech recognition.
14. What can we infer about the speech system according to Jonathan Suffolk
A. It fails to find the balance point. B. It sometimes misses a few lines.
C. It responds to performers quickly. D. It refuses to change captions on the screen.
15. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Smart Glasses: A Game Changer B. Smart Glasses: A Symbol of Hope
C. Smart Glasses: A Solution to Blindness D. Smart Glasses: A Revolution to Theatres

The horse-face skirt, or mamianqun in Chinese, is receiving renewed attention on the fashion stage.
Far from being photoshoot prop, wearing the horse-face skirt has become almost trend among many Chinese celebrities and influencers for various international social occasions. On Douyin, China’s TikTok, individuals who sport the horse-face skirt on city streets in Paris and other international cities can easily gain millions of likes. A popular blogger on Xiaohongshu appeared on a British television program to discuss the development of the English Premier League in China while wearing a horse-face skirt.
From its first appearance during the Song Dynasty to becoming a standout representation of Chinese clothing, mamianqun has crossed nearly a millennium of history. In the current trend of traditional Chinese clothing reconstruction, how has the horse-face skirt stood out to become the most famous clothing
Mao Zhaoxi, who is a hanfu enthusiast, told the Global Times that Hanfu is the external demonstration of culture, integrating the life philosophies, values, and aesthetic (美学) views formed and inherited (继承) by the Chinese people generation after generation. She said, “Many young people believe that the horse-face skirt is not just a fashion item, but also a cultural symbol. This shows the awakening of traditional aesthetic genes among the younger generations, indicating that the confidence in our own culture is constantly increasing.”
Moreover, Hu Xiao, one of the founders of the ancient Chinese costumes restoration team, analyzed one main reason of this phenomenon lies in the fact that the horse-face skirt has managed to remain relevant, never falling out of fashion. “Many people thought the horse-face skirt had disappeared for a while, but in fact, Chinese brides can always be seen in the costume of mamianqun.” The horse-face skirt possesses a strong sense of inheritance while also possessing fashionable features. This perhaps is the cultural DNA that enables it to become a fashion item.

Not getting enough sleep may cause you to feel five to 10 years older than you really are, according to two new studies. “Sleep plays a causal role in how old individuals feel,” Leonie Balter, a sleep researcher at Stockholm University in Sweden and the author of both studies, wrote in an email.
Health and mobility issues can contribute to feeling aged before your time, but when it comes to sleep, nodding off was a key to perceiving oneself as old, according to the studies, published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B. “Insufficient sleep causes feelings of sleepiness. Sleepiness is an important motivational state that makes us prioritize sleep and reduces our energy levels,” she said. A lack of energy and motivation can certainly contribute to feeling older while limiting a person’s ability to remain physically and socially active, both of which contribute to feeling young.
Balter and her colleagues conducted two studies. One tested how well 429 people between the ages of 18 and 70 had slept in their own homes over the previous month. For every night of poor sleep during that time, people reported feeling about a quarter of a year older than their chronological (按时间顺序) age. The second study asked 186 of the same participants to sleep in a lab for two nights, making sure they did not get more than four hours of shuteye each night. The subjective experience of aging was much greater when people experienced this degree of sleep insufficiency: On average, people felt nearly 4 years older than they really were.
“Overall, these findings emphasize the importance of enough sleep in maintaining a youthful subjective age,” said sleep researcher Dr. Chang-Ho Yun, a neurology professor at Seoul National University, who was not involved in the studies, “Feeling young is a good thing which has been associated in studies with living longer, a lower rate of dementia (痴呆), less depression and more positive characters such as optimism, hope and adaptation.”
8. What might contribute to feeling young according to paragraph 2
A. Enough sleep. B. Optimistic attitude.

A. Doubtful. B. Unidentifiable. C. Favorable. D. Objective.
11 Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. The development of good sleep. B. The adaptation of sleepiness.
C. The vitality of sufficient sleep. D. The characteristics of sleepiness.

A ship that has spent decades trying to drill nearer to the earth’s mantle (地幔) is preparing for a new voyage to uncover clues to how life began.
With the plan to deepen a hole drilled nearly 20 years ago, two dozen geologists, microbiologists and other scientists will aboard the Joides Resolution to the Atlantis Massif. The hole won’t be the longest in the seafloor but would push closer than ever to the mantle and explore deeper layers of ocean crust (地壳) that haven’t been reached before. Engineers on the ship intend to lower heavy drilling tools through about 5,400 feet of water to find a hole on the seafloor about 15 inches wide. Joides engineers compared the process to standing on a chair and trying to lower a pencil tied to the end of string into the mouth of a soda bottle with a fan blowing.
Samples from the new depths will be taken to investigate whether a special mix of rock and water, Olivine, could have started life on Earth and possibly other planets. This green and magnesium-rich mineral, abundant at such depths, is critical to serpentinization (蛇纹石化), a reaction that occurs when some minerals encounter seawater. Geochemists think the process of serpentinization generates the energy and geochemical conditions favorable to the creation of organic molecules. “These are the building blocks of life,” said Susan Q. Lang, the expedition’s cochief scientist.
The new depth is thought where serpentinization occurs but where temperatures are beyond the limits at which life is known to exist. “If organic molecules are found there, it could help confirm that serpentinization leads to their creation, which contributed to the origin of life.” Dr. Lang said. Finding organic molecules in samples from serpentinization sites could also inform the search for life on other planets. “The geochemistry of fluids in the plumes of Enceladus, a moon of Saturn (土星), have been inferred by astrobiologists to be similar to the makeup of fluids found at the Atlantis Massif.” she added.
12. How long could it be from the ocean surface to New Target according to the text and picture
A. 14700 feet. B. 12150 feet. C. 11390 feet. D. 10040 feet.
13 What can we learn from the engineers’ example given in paragraph 2
A. Deepening the hole will be challenging.
B. Engineers will be required to stand high.
C. The size of the drill pipe needs to be large.
D. The task will be affected by the wind from a fan.
14. What is the significance of finding the serpentinization according the text
A. It may help to find a mineral rich in magnesium.
B. It may help to produce the organic molecules.
C. It may help to obtain the habitat of life on earth.
D. It may help to uncover clues to how life began.
15. What information can we get in the picture
A. The Joides Resolution could scale with depth.
B. The Wall Street Journal will organize the voyage.
C. The new voyage could be named Moho Moonshot.
D. The ship will leave for Portugal from Ponta Delgada.

Feeling down about money Do you know you could have thousands of pounds worth of junk hiding in your drawers Well, here's some fantastic news to brighten your day: your unwanted tech could be a goldmine, with potential earnings ranging from 1, 300 to 6, 330. That's right - that neglected hairdryer, forgotten electric toothbrush, or unused smartphone sitting in your cupboard could be your ticket to some extra holiday cash, a dream summer vacation, or a special weekend treat!
Recent research from Recycle Your Electricals reveals a shocking 880 million unused working electrical items gathering dust in UK households, averaging 31 items per household. The potential earnings A suriprising 36. 7 billion for older, lower, and unbranded items and an astonishing 178. 5 billion for newer, higher branded items. It's an incredible new opportunity!

In an increasingly fast-paced world that rewards immediacy, urgency culture makes it hard to tell what is truly important and what is not. At work, this could involve handling frequent last- minute requests, unrealistic deadlines, and the expectation to be reachable even after hours. In personal life, behaviour patterns of urgency culture include overextending in relationships, frequently checking social media updates out of fear of missing out, and responding immediately to calls and texts, even when it 's inconvenient.
The constant rush to be “always on" professionally and personally can create stress. Being part of the "always on" culture often involves multitasking. However, research shows every time we multitask, it actually slows the brain down and may reduce productivity by up to 40 percent. Meanwhile, constant overstimulation - a significant contributor to urgency culture - will debilitate your dopamine(多巴胺)system. In short, the more overstimulated you are, the less joy you can feel. Over time, urgency culture can also be harmful to physical health. A false sense of urgency tricks the body into reacting as if it' s in a threatening situation, activating the "fight-or- flight” response. Your breathing becomes faster, your blood pressure and heart rate go up, and you lose the ability to regulate emotions, and an overactive fight-or-flight response contributes to high blood pressure, poor quality of sleep and eating disorders.
To avoid the urgency trap, experts recommend pausing for a few moments before leaping into action every time something comes up. It allows you to step back and assess whether this demand for your attention is in line with your priorities. Setting clear expectations in personal and professional relationships can also help plan, prioritize and problem-solve without causing false urgency. The best thing you can do to deal with urgency culture is to regularity engage in activities that remind you there is no rush.
32. Which of the following can be described as "urgency culture" according to paragraph1
A. Focusing on important matters. B. Finishing work before deadline.
C. Giving everything high priority. D. Maintaining useful relationships.
33. How does multitasking influence people according to the author
A. It contributes to their work efficiency.
B. They may feel under constant pressure.
C. It helps to slow down their working pace.
D. Their sense of achievement will decrease.

I’ve been a healthcare assistant with Marie Curie for four years. What led me to join this remarkable organization was a deeply personal experience.
Seven years ago, my father was in the end-of-life stage. He had wanted to be at home during his final moments, so I arranged for him to return home. He spent only one more night there, but he wasn’t alone. A Marie Curie nurse was by our side.
Facing the emotions that come with knowing a loved one is at the end of their life can be overwhelming. Having a nurse with us made it easier to deal with these feelings. That’s when I made the decision to join Marie Curie.
You might assume that being with family members during the end of one’s life would be a sad experience. But what may surprise you is that it’s not. The family, in my experience, make the most of the time they have and understand that their loved one is dying, but it’s not a time for sorrow; it’s a time of togetherness and warmth.
I remember one particular family—three sisters—and the fourth was in the end-of-life stage. When I arrived, she was unconscious, and I knew she might not make it through the night.
But sitting with the sisters, talking about their childhood, and sharing photos, I felt it was a special time. They mentioned that their sister had asked for peaches ’n’ cream earlier that day, and they made sure she got it.
We lost her that night. The sisters expected it, they thanked me, and it was a comforting experience. Our role is to support families and the individuals who are dying. We can’t change the matter of necessity, but we can make a difference. We provide support through the early stages of grief.
24. Why did the author join Marie Curie
A. To memorize her father. B. To deal with her sad feelings.
C. To provide help and services. D. To express her thanks to nurses.
25. What did the author do before the youngest sister died
A. She accompanied her family. B. She took photos for her.
C. She told stories to her sisters. D. She comforted her parents.
26. What does the author think of her job
A. Challenging. B. Rewarding. C. Eye-opening. D. Time-consuming.
27. What docs the author intend to express at last
A. The support of family counts. B. Helping others is helping yourself.
C. It’s never late to change ourselves. D. End-of-life company means a lot.

A new study from a team at the University of Pittsburgh has discovered blood-based markers that can reveal someone’s biological age, which could help treat various health problems that can happen as our bodies get older.
We have our actual ages—the number of years we’ve been alive—and then we have biological ages, which is related to the wear and tear on cells and organs. Knowing this biological age can help us work out disease risk, tailor treatments, and better understand the different rates at which our bodies break down.
“Imagine two people aged 65,” says Aditi Gurkar, a geriatrician at the University of Pittsburgh. “One rides a bike to work and goes skiing on the weekends and the other can’t climb ad flight of stairs.”
“They have the same age, but different biological ages. Why do these two people age differently ” To help answer this question, the researchers enlisted the help of 196 elderly adults, split into two groups: one group of volunteers aged 75 or older who were classified as healthy agers, and the other group of volunteers aged 65-75 who were classified as rapid agers. The healthy agers were able to climb a flight of stairs or walk for 15 minutes without resting, while the rapid agers had to take breaks through each activity.
The distinction gave the study team the chance to look at differences between the groups in metabolites (代谢物) : small chemical substances left by biological processes in the body. They can be used as evidence for which processes are happening, and how well they’ re running.
“We chose to look at metabolites because they are dynamic,” says Gurkar. “They change in real time to reflect our current health and how we feel, and we have the power to influence them through our lifestyle, diet and environment.”
With more research, it might be possible to develop a blood test for quick and easy biological age assessment. That test could then be run on people at earlier ages, when changes to molecular processes are easier to modify.
28. What do the underlined words “the wear and tear” mean in paragraph 2
A. The damage. B. The repair. C. The examination. D. The decrease.
29. How did the researchers do the study according to the fourth paragraph
A. By analysing some figures. B. By making a comparison.
C. By quoting an expert. D. By grouping volunteers randomly.
30. Why did the team do research on metabolites
A. They can affect our lifestyle and diet. B. They can reflect our current thoughts.
C. They can be taken out and tested easily. D. They can show the present body conditions.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. A Rare Disease Resulted from Blood B. A Better Way to Keep Us Younger
C. A Blood Test Indicating Health Problems D. An Approach to Becoming Stronger
D
A biotech company announced that it has reached an important milestone: the creation of a long-sought kind of stem cell for the closest living relative of the woolly mammoth (猛象).
“This is probably the most significant step in the early stages of this project,” said George Church, a geneticist at Harvard University. The woolly mammoth was extinct thousands of years ago. Church has been working to bring the mammoth and other extinct species back to life using the latest cloning and genetic (基因的) engineering techniques.
And now the company says scientists have for the first time created stem cells for the mammoth’s closest living relative, Asian elephants. The achievement is still far from the ultimate goal of creating herds (牧群) of giant hairy beasts, but Church said, “It’s a major step. This is kind of like asking Neil Armstrong if he plans to go to Mars—kind of missing the point he just landed on the moon on Apollo 11.”
Scientists can now try to use cloning techniques and gene editing to control the cells in the hope of someday creating elephants with key characters of mammoths, such as heavy coats and the layers of fat that enabled them to survive in cold climates.
Some scientists have different ideas. “What are you going to get out of this ” asked Karl Flessa, a professor of geosciences at the University of Arizona. “If you’ re going to release a herd into the Arctic tundra, is that herd going to go marching off to its second extinction in the face of global warming ”
But Church and his colleagues defended the project. Church said the woolly mammoth program could lead to new ways to protect endangered species like Asian elephants by expanding their habitat and helping scientists study the animals. Reintroducing elephants with woolly mammoth characters could also help fight global warming by restoring ecosystems in ways that would help reduce the amount of carbon being released into the atmosphere.
32. Which field does the creation mainly belong to
A. Research on species. B. Clone technology.
C. Animal protection. D. Space exploration.
33. What does the author want to explain by mentioning Neil Armstrong
A. The advancement of space technology. B. The challenges met during the project.
C. The astronaut’s determination D. The significance of the achievement.
34. What’s Flessa’s attitude towards the project
A. Approving. B. Tolerant. C. Doubtful. D. Uncaring.
35. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. The benefits of the project. B. The ways to save endangered species.
C. The steps to reduce our carbon footprint. D. The causes of global warming.

词义猜测题。根据第四段划线词后“They go around searching for food at night. They sleep during the day, or try to, like lots of people who work the overnight shift. (它们在夜间四处寻找食物。他们白天睡觉,或者试着睡觉,就像很多上夜班的人一样。)”可知,猫头鹰是夜行动物,划线词是在夜晚活跃的。故选C。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“ Yet some New Yorkers who don’t know proper bird-watching behavior reportedly see Flaco sleep in a tree during the day, and begin to shout at him. It interrupts his sleep. Flaco can’t try to say “shh, shh” with the traditional New York reply. After all, a bird can’t give someone the bird.(然而,据报道,一些不知道正确观鸟行为的纽约人看到Flaco白天在树上睡觉,就开始对它大喊大叫。它打断了他的睡眠。弗拉科不能用传统的纽约人的回答说“嘘,嘘”。)”可知,作者对弗拉科睡眠被打断的态度是不同意的。故选D。

【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Their car, called the Zem, is equipped with a special filter (过滤器) that cleans up the CO2 produced by other cars on the road. (他们的汽车名为Zem,配备了一种特殊的过滤器,可以清除道路上其他汽车产生的二氧化碳。)”可知,Zem能吸收二氧化碳是因为拥有特殊的过滤器。故选B项。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Its body panels (金属板) were 3D printed to reduce waste and minimize the production of CO2. Recycled plastics were also used throughout the outside and inside. The car’s powertrain, which consists of small battery packs and a 22-kWh motor, also makes use of regenerative braking to increase efficiency. (它的车身金属板是3D打印的,以减少浪费并最大限度地减少二氧化碳的产生。内外都使用了再生塑料。该车的动力系统由小型电池组和一个22千瓦时的电机组成,还利用再生制动来提高效率。)”可知,Zem的制造减少浪费、使用再生
