【原文】
W: I would like to introduce Dr. Jacobs. He is here to talk to us about healthy ways to lose weight, Dr. Jacobs, what are some of the mistakes people make when trying to lose weight
M: When people decide to lose weight, they often make promises to themselves to eat healthily.
The problem with this goal, however, is that it’s not specific enough. To be successful on a diet, you have to have a specific plan. First, decide which foods you want to include in your diet and which foods you want to avoid. Then, plan your meals for the week and make a shopping list. You will be much more likely to eat a healthy diet throughout the week if you do this. Another mistake that people make is that they eat too little. Believe me, if you only allow yourself three very small meals each day, you are going to be hungry all the time. That means that when your colleague offers you a cookie at work, you will end up eating four of them. Additionally, when it comes to exercise, people also make mistakes. Many people do the same exercise routine over and over. The problem with this is that they get bored with it and stop exercising. It’s much better to add variety to your schedule. One final mistake that people make is failing to drink enough water. Drinking water helps people not eat too much, and should be part of any weight loss plan.

Hundreds of hours of survey footage has revealed a rare mammal in the south-west of Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil. Wildlife camera traps have recorded footage of a giant anteater(食蚁兽) wandering through scrubland in Espinilho State Park in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is the first time since the 1890s that this large mammal has been seen in the southwest of the state. Experts think the anteater came from Ibera National Park in Argentina, where a major re wilding project has been underway since 2007.
The anteater was spotted by Brazilian biologist Fabio Mazim as he was reviewing hundreds of hours of footage for a wild if e survey. “The animal seems to be in very good condition and established in the area,” says Mazim. “At the moment it is impossible for us to determine whether it is male or female, one or even several different individuals.”
According to WWF Brazil, the species was once present in all Brazilian states. It is now threatened with extinction in all regions of the country and has been lost from some states entirely. The main causes of the population decline are the damage and loss of occupied zone, hunting, road accidents and forest fires.
Giant anteaters were first l reintroduced to I bera National Park in 2007 by Rewilding Argentina. Since the start of the project, 110 anteaters orphaned by road accidents or illegal hunting have been released, and several generations now live in Ibera Wetlands. The discovery in Rio Grande do Sul state, along with additional sightings over a 100 km range, suggests that Ibera’s giant anteaters are colonizing other regions.
For the next stage of the project, researchers will try to find out if there are more individuals in the area, and determine what their favoured habitat(栖息地) is. “We intend to seize the individual sighted in Espinilho State Park, collect biological samples (样本) for genetic analysis, and compare them with the populations that exist elsewhere in Brazil.” says Flavia Miranda, a biologist who has been studying the species for 25 years.
24.How was the giant anteater discovered
A.Through cooperation with WWF Brazil.
B.Through a wild adventure in Espinilho State Park.
C.By catching the animal for a bioresearch.
D.By examining picture recording for a wildlife survey.
25.What are the reasons for the decrease of the anteater population
A.Lack of genetic variety.
B.Loss of living areas and natural disasters.
C.Climate change and natural destruction.
D.Competition for resources with other species.
26.What motivated there appearance of the anteater in this region
A.A major rewilding project by Re wilding Argentina.
B.The establishment of a protected area for anteaters
C.A reproductive program focused on prisoned anteaters
D.An anti-hunting campaign sponsored by WWF Brazil.
27.What is the future plan of the research
A.Releasing the giant anteater back into the wild after a health check.
B.Shifting the giant anteater to Ibera National Park for further studies.
C.Trapping the giant anteater to compare genetic samples with other populations in Brazil.
D.Observing the giant anteater from a distance to understand its behavior better.
【答案】24.D 25.B 26.A 27.C
根据文章第二段“The anteater was spotted by Brazilian biologist Fabio Mazim as he was reviewing hundreds of hours of footage for a wild if e survey.”(巴西生物学家Fabio Mazim在审查数百小时的野生动物调查录像时发现了这只食蚁兽。)可知,巨型食蚁兽是通过检查野生动物调查的录像发现的。故选D。

Proper questioning has become a lost art. The curious four-year-old asks a lot of questions—incessant streams of “Why ” and “Why not ” might sound familiar—but as we grow older, our questioning decreases. In a recent survey of more than 200 of our clients, we found that those with children estimated that 70-80% of their kids’ dialogues with others were comprised of questions. But those same clients said that only 15-25% of their own interactions consisted of questions. Why the drop off
Think back to your time growing up and in school. Chances are that you received the most recognition or reward when you got the correct answers. Later in life, that motivator continues. At work, we often reward those who answer questions, not those who ask them. Questioning conventional wisdom can even lead to being distanced, or considered a threat.
Because expectations for decision-making have gone from “get it done soon” to “get it done now” to “it should have been done yesterday”, we tend to jump to conclusions instead of asking more questions. And the unfortunate side effect of not asking enough questions is poor decision-making. That’s why it’s vital that we slow down and take the time to ask more and better questions. At best, we’ll arrive at better conclusions. At worst, we’ll avoid a lot of rework later on.
Aside from not speaking up enough, many professionals don’t think about how different types of questions can lead to different outcomes. We should lead a conversation by asking the right kinds of questions, based on the problem we’re trying to solve. In some cases, we’ll want to expand our view of the problem rather than keeping it narrowly focused. In others, we may want to challenge basic assumptions or confirm our understanding in order to feel more confident in our conclusions. Therefore, asking the right kinds of questions is what counts in achieving a goal.
28.What does the underlined word “incessant” in paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.Simple. B.Random. C.Constant. D.Annoying.
29.What accounts for the decline of questioning in adulthood
A.One poses a threat to the company if they ask questions.
B.Adults don’t get as many chances as they did in childhood.
C.Those who question popular beliefs are thought to be wise.
D.Those asking questions don’t always get positive feedback.
30.What can we infer from paragraph 3
A.Redoing is unavoidable despite thoughtful questions.
B.Decisions made in a hurry may turn out to be wrong.
C.Better questions can surely bring desirable outcomes.
D.More attention should be paid to making conclusions.
31.What might the author continue talking about
A.Proper questions that should be raised. B.Important goals that we are to achieve.
C.Right kinds of answers to the questions. D.Ways to expand our view of the problem.
【答案】28.C 29.D 30.B 31.A
根据第二段“Think back to your time growing up and in school. Chances are you received the most recognition or reward when you got the correct answers. Later in life, that motivator continues. At work, we often reward those who answer questions, not those who ask them.(回想一下你在学校的成长过程。当你得到正确答案时,你可能会得到最多的认可或奖励。在以后的生活中,这种动力会继续存在。在工作中,我们经常奖励那些回答问题的人,而不是那些提出问题的人)”可知,提问题的人不一定能得到积极的反馈是致了成年后提问的减少的原因。故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据第三段“Because expectations for decision-making have gone from “get it done soon” to “get it done now” to “it should have been done yesterday”, we tend to jump to conclusions instead of asking more questions. And the unfortunate side effect of not asking enough questions is poor decision-making.(因为对决策的期望已经从“尽快完成”变成了“现在完成”,再变成了“昨天就应该完成”,我们倾向于直接下结论,而不是问更多的问题。没有问足够多的问题的副作用是糟糕的决策)”可知,匆忙做出的决定可能会被证明是错误的。故选B。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Therefore, asking the right kinds of questions is what counts in achieving a goal.(因此,问正确的问题是实现目标的关键)”可知,接下来要讨论应该提出适当的问题。故选A。
D
A study following nearly 30,000 older adults for more than 10 years has found six key healthy lifestyle factors can significantly reduce memory loss and those adults engaging in between four and six of the healthy lifestyle behaviors could dramatically reduce their risks of developing dementia (痴呆), even when carrying genes that increase their risks of Alzheimer’s disease.
“Six healthy lifestyle aspects were assessed: a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, active social contact, active cognitive (认知的) activity, never smoking, and never drinking alcohol,” the researchers explained in the new study. Participants were classified (分类) into the favorable group if they had four to six healthy lifestyle factors, into the average group for two to three factors, and into the unfavorable group for zero to one factor.
The study found that people with four to six healthy habits had a much slower loss of memory than those with fewer healthy habits. People with these good habits were also much less likely to get dementia than those with one or no healthy habits. Those who had two or three good habits were 30% less likely to get dementia.
The study didn’t figure out which of the six healthy habits is the best for stopping dementia or which combination is the best. However, the information did show that eating healthy seemed to help prevent memory loss the most, with brain exercise and regular physical exercise also very helpful.
About 20% of the people in the study had a gene that makes Alzheimer’s disease more likely. Even so, having several good health habits helped slow down memory loss. This shows that changing how we live can really help.
Even though each health habit helped in a different way, overall, the study found that people with more good health habits had much less memory loss than those with fewer good habits. This suggests that the choices we make in how we live can help protect our memory. The study adds to the evidence that we might be able to change our risk of memory loss.
32.What were the groups categorized based on
A.The participants’ age. B.What hobbies the participants got rid of.
C.The healthy lifestyles the participants had. D.What the participants’ attitudes to factors were.
33.What can we infer from paragraph 3
A.The favorable group was happier than the other two.
B.More healthy lifestyles were of more benefit to health.
C.Healthy habits had little impact on memory or dementia.
D.People with a healthy diet wouldn’t suffer a loss of memory.
34.Which plays the second greatest role in reducing memory loss
A.A healthy diet. B.Active social contact.
C.Active cognitive activities. D.Never drinking alcohol.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.Healthy Lifestyles Slowing Memory Loss B.A Study Making A Great Breakthrough
C.A Healthy Diet Being The Best Lifestyle D.Old Adults Suffering From Health Problems
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.C 35.A
【导语】本文是说明文。这篇文章介绍了一项长期的研究结果发现健康生活方式对老年人记忆力减退和痴呆风险的影响。
32.细节理解题。根据第一段“A study following nearly 30,000 older adults for more than 10 years has found six key healthy lifestyle factors can significantly reduce memory loss and those adults engaging in between four and six of the healthy lifestyle behaviors could dramatically reduce their risks of developing dementia (痴呆), even when carrying genes that increase their risks of Alzheimer’s disease.(一项对近3万名老年人进行了10多年跟踪调查的研究发现,六种关键的健康生活方式因素可以显著减少记忆丧失,那些拥有四到六种健康生活方式行为的成年人可以显著降低患痴呆症的风险,即使他们携带有增加患阿尔茨海默病风险的基因)”可知,分类的依据是参与者的健康生活方式。故选C项。
33.推理判断题。根据第三段“The study found that people with four to six healthy habits had a much slower loss of memory than those with fewer healthy habits. People with these good habits were also much less likely to get dementia than those with one or no healthy habits. Those who had two or three good habits were 30% less likely to get dementia.(研究发现,拥有四到六个健康习惯的人比那些没有健康习惯的人记忆力衰退的速度要慢得多。拥有这些好习惯的人也比那些只有一个或没有健康习惯的人更不容易患痴呆症。那些有两到三个好习惯的人患痴呆症的可能性要低30%)”可知,更健康的生活方式对健康更有益。故选B项。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段“The study didn’t figure out which of the six health y habits is the best for stopping dementia or which combination is the best. However, the information did show that eating healthy seemed to help prevent memory loss the most, with brain exercise and regular physical exercise also very helpful.(这项研究并没有弄清楚这六种健康习惯中哪一种对预防痴呆症最好,或者哪种组合最好。然而,这些信息确实表明,健康饮食似乎最有助于防止记忆丧失,大脑锻炼和定期体育锻炼也很有帮助)”可知,在减少记忆丧失方面起着第二重要的作用是大脑锻炼和定期体育锻炼,也就是积极的认知活动。故选C项。
35.主旨大意题。根据第一段“A study following nearly 30,000 older adults for more than 10 years has found six key healthy lifestyle factors can significantly reduce memory loss and those adults engaging in between four and six of the healthy lifestyle behaviors could dramatically reduce their risks of developing dementia (痴呆), even when carrying genes that increase their risks of Alzheimer’s disease.(一项对近3万名老年人进行了10多年跟踪调查的研究发现,六种关键的健康生活方式因素可以显著减少记忆丧失,那些拥有四到六种健康生活方式行为的成年人可以显著降低患痴呆症的风险,即使他们携带有增加患阿尔茨海默病风险的基因)”以及纵观全文可知,本文主要讲述了健康的生活方式对老年人记忆力减退和痴呆风险的影响,所以A项“Healthy Lifestyles Slowing Memory Loss(健康的生活方式减缓记忆丧失)”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。
第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Whether we’re sad about the loss of a loved one or angry at friends or family, it often feels good to let the emotions all out because sharing our emotions reduces our stress and helps us feel good. 36 Expressing our emotions often to others may actually make us feel worse, especially if we don’t find a way to comfort ourselves.
37 . This led to a movement to “let it all out”, with experts telling people to hit soft objects, like pillows, to release (释放) negative feelings. It turns out, however, that this type of emotional venting (发泄) likely doesn’t reduce anger. That’s because encouraging people to act out their anger makes them relive it in their bodies, making it easier to get angry the next time. 38 .

As the first rays of the morning sun shone through the clouds, “Not again!” Julia sighed as she tried to reach her bedside clock. It rang repeatedly, reminding her she’d be late if she didn’t get up!
Julia threw away her blanket and sat on her bed, stretching herself. It was going to be another busy day. Julia worked as a nurse at the city hospital, often taking multiple shifts and working long hours to ensure her daughter never missed out on anything. Things had been hard for them after Julia’s husband died, and being a single parent wasn’t an easy thing.
“Get up, honey! You’re going to be late for school!” Julia opened the window in Ashley’s room and kissed her cheeks. “Wake up, princess!”
Later, Julia fed Ashley and dropped her off at the bus stop. “Be a good girl and have fun!” she told Ashley as she waved her goodbye. Watching the school bus disappear down the street, Julia returned home, took a quick shower and drove off to work, eating a breakfast bar in the car.
As she arrived at the hospital, Julia realized getting home in time to prepare lunch would be impossible because she had a long list of patients to attend to. Yet again, Julia was busy with work, which meant missing out on the time she spent with Ashley. But Julia didn’t have a choice. She was doing it all for Ashley and herself.
Sitting at her desk, Julia dialed her new neighbour, Marco, who’d always come through for her whenever she needed help, asking him if he could look after Ashley.
“No problem, I love hanging out with Ashley, and she’s a lot of joy to be around.”
“I’m sure she feels the same way about you,” Julia laughed. “Look, I’m sorry again for troubling you and thanks.”
Julia was on her way home after work when she was unexpectedly called back. It was an emergency case, and there was a shortage of nurses. Julia called Marco and informed him she’d be home later than usual, and he said it was fine.

【答案】
With her work finished, Julia called Marco twice, but no one answered and soon his phone was off. “What! He turned his phone off ” Julia wondered, getting worried and trembling as she pulled out her phone and dialed 911. Her tears wouldn’t stop as she told the operator about how she’d left her daughter with her new neighbour, only to find her little girl missing. And he’s not returning Julia’s calls or anything. The operator told her that he needed her address and she had better go home at first. Therefore, Julia grabbed her things and ran to the parking lot to head home.
As Julia arrived home and stepped out of her car, she saw Ashley standing beside Marco outside and waiting for her. With great relief, Julia ran to Ashley to kiss and hug her. Then she turned to Marco and questioned him. “I’m sorry, I have forgotten my phone at home and I found it was out of battery a moment ago,” Marco replied. Julia forgave him and also apologized to him for the misunderstanding. Later, Marco suggested having a good dinner together to relax.

Being selective when you express your emotions is a good way. There’re many ways to deal with difficult emotions and not all of them involve other people. 39 , such as writing your thoughts down or changing your environment to help you handle your emotions.
When you share your emotions with others, remind them to offer suggestions. Ask them questions like “ 40 ” or “What should I do in this situation ” This will make them know that you’re looking for something more than a listening ear.
A.Does expressing my feelings actually help
B.How should I think about this differently
C.Actually sometimes you can find solutions on your own
D.But sharing covers many different modes of communication
E.So it’s important to choose a healthier way to express emotions
F.However, we should try hard to seek support from those around us
G.Experts used to believe negative emotions needed to be released physically
