Mobile phones can take your attention away when you're trying to focus on something. That's why the Dutch government is banning (禁止) them—in classrooms, at least.
The government has announced that from January 1, 2024, students will not be allowed to use their mobile phones in classrooms, unless they are needed for medical reasons.
Robbert is the education minister of the Netherlands. The ban has come about through an agreement between the government education department, schools, and relevant organizations. At first, it will be left up to schools how they enforce (执行).If the ban doesn't work legislation (立法) and binding rules may be introduced before the summer of 2024.
“We are going to look very closely at whether this decision works,” Robbert said.“Because, of course, there could always be a legal ban. But I actually believe that we can arrange(安排)this together.”
The move follows similar steps taken recently in Finland, a country that is widely regarded as having one of the best education systems in the world and which is also the birthplace of Nokia, one
of the most important companies in the development of mobile phones.
The Netherlands is not the first country to introduce a ban like this. In 2022, Italy to ok similar steps. France has also had a ban in place since September 2018. France bans mobile phones from schools for children between 3 and 15 years of age, and China introduced a similar ban in 2021.

Imagine taking a flying taxi and getting where you want to go faster than you could in a car. Believe it or not, you might be able to do that in an air taxi sooner than you think.
Air taxis are more like helicopters(直升机)than planes. 32 They can go straight up and down, like a helicopter.
A company called Joby Aviation has created a program to fly people from their homes to the airport. The program is expected to start first in New York and Los Angeles. Joby’s air taxis will be flown by a pilot and can carry four other passengers. They can fly as fast as 200 miles per hour. By 2025, Joby hopes to start carrying passengers for money. 33 But over time, it hopes to bring the price down to less than $1 per mile.
Joby isn't the only company developing air panies around the world are working on developing similar vehicles(交通工具). 34 But there's still a lot to do before air taxis
become common. For one thing, governments need to make rules about where, when and how these taxis can fly. 35 For example, the air taxis may be quieter than helicopters, but they'll still add noise and traffic to the skies. And some people worry that only rich people will be able to afford to use them.
Still, it seems likely that air taxis will be part of the future of travel.
A. It can carry only one person.
B. Air taxis don't need a long runway like planes do.
C. The company expects to charge $3 a mile at first.

In need of some rest You can now climb down419 meters to have the deepest sleep below ground. The hotel called Deep Sleep, located beneath the mountains of Snowdonia in Wales, is officially the world's deepest hotel. Guests must journey down through a slate mine (板岩矿) to reach the hotel.
The hotel has four private twin-bed cabins (小木屋) and a romantic grotto(洞穴) with a double bed. A single night stay for two in a private cabin costs 350 while the price for two in the grotto is 550.And if you're a single guest, you will have to pay the price of two, too.
You can only book the hotel for a Saturday night through to Sunday morning and getting to your room is far from relaxing. You will have to complete a 45-minute walk into the mountains and at the end you'll get a helmet, light, harness(安全带) and boots before going into the world's largest and deepest slate mine.
The trip down into the mine includes ancient miner stairwells(楼梯井),old bridges and a scramble(攀爬). It takes about 60 minutes, and once you complete the trip, you'll arrive at a set of large steel doors. Welcome to Deep Sleep!
Then try and relax for the evening with a free meal to enjoy at the picnic table. After that just head off to bed.
It's also important to note it's not exactly warm down there. It's about 10°C, so it will feel the same as if you were camping outside. Be sure to pack warm clothes.
All guests must get up before 8 am for a hot drink and breakfast before starting the trip back up to ground level. And going up is always harder than coming down. Whatever it certainly sounds unique.
