One Saturday in December, Annacarin Elf, the head of operations at Gothenburg City Library, just happened to walk by her workplace. Noticing that the door was open, she entered the library, and was astonished to see the heartwarming scene that people were using it like on a regular day.
It was scheduled to be closed for the New Year holiday. The people in the library behaved as usual. Many were sitting reading newspapers, some families were in the children's section and others were searching for books on the computer.
It seemed that Elf's colleagues had simply forgotten to lock the door, and because this popular library is usually open on Saturdays. visitors just assumed they could walk in. Elf called to check with her staff team, before announcing to the people present that the library was about to close. Then she expressed her regret for what had been done wrong and caused them a problem. It later turns out that 446 locals visited the city library borrowing a total of 246 books during the day. What's remarkable is that people checked out their books through the library's electronic self-service system, and that to date, all the books have been retuned!
Many Swedes have reacted positively to this uplifting demonstration of local respect for the library, a center that can be seen as a sign of the community, and what the locals did has strengthened their sense of belonging in their community.

You are staring at a blank page 5, 000 words to go. You are well aware that your computer can write this thing for you. To use AI or not to use AI That is the question.
The rapid development of AI tools has led many people to question their impacts on academic life. During an event to educate students about AI and academic integrity, Emily Bonano, chief justice of the All-Campus Judicial Council (ACJC), which is responsible for hearing individual cases relating to academic integrity, stressed that although AI as a common tool is a recent development, its impacts on academic honesty are already clear. “People are using it practically like any common tool,” Bonanno said. “People run into issues where they make assumptions and say ‘Oh, I’m just going to use it’ or ‘It doesn’t really matter. It’s just a little paragraph’. But it does matter.”
The Academic Honesty Policy defines academic honesty as “Acting with truthfulness and sincerity in carrying out all aspects of our individual and collaborative (合作的) work, maintaining ownership of our work and acknowledging our debt to the work of others”. The use of AI tools in completing tasks might be thought of as the breach of academic integrity if it went against this policy, Bonanno said. She explained that using AI without an instructor’s permission might be considered as receiving or using unauthorized aid under the policy.
Many instructors prohibit the use of AI in their classrooms because it runs the risk of disregarding academic integrity, but there are exceptions. Professor Whitney is teaching a course called Writing About and With Artificial Intelligence, which examines the role that AI can play in writing and involves using AI tools to better understand how to write with them. Regardless of whether an instructor allows or forbids the use of AI, its rules should be laid out clearly, Bonanno said.
8. What do Emily Bonanno’s words in paragraph 2 imply
A. We should be careful about academic use of AI.
B. AI has been a major risk to academic integrity.
C. Occasional use of AI tools for tasks is acceptable.
D. AI is far from a common tool in the academic field.
9. What does the underlined word “breach” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Misinterpretation. B. Clarification
C. Representing D. Breaking.
10. Why is Professor Whitney mentioned
A. To present the practical application of AI. B. To show another view on using AI in class.
C. To stress the important role of AI in writing. D. To encourage the appropriate use of AI tools.
11. Which can be the suitable title for the text
A. Is AI a Real Threat to Education B. Will AI Be Prohibited Academically
C. Is Using AI Academically Dishonest D. Should You Use AI to Complete Tasks
D
“Anxiety.” The very word invites discomfort. Its effects—shortness of breath, pounding heart, muscle tension—are outright upsetting. But, as a clinician, I find that we tend to miss out on many valuable opportunities presented by this human emotion. In and of itself, anxiety is not deadly, nor is it a disease. Quite the contrary: it is an indicator of brain and sensory health. Once we accept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life, we can use it to help us.
We all know working out at the gym is hard. By nature, a “good workout” is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do. The sweet spot of exercise is always a somewhat challenging experience. Similarly, if you want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some tension. For example, one effective treatment for fear is exposure therapy (疗法), which involves gradually encountering things that make one anxious, reducing fear over time.
Humans are social creatures. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxieties, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also, as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments (e.g., “I’m having a hard time right now and could really use your support”), it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love.
From time to time, we find ourselves at the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile up, our resources break down, and we feel uncomfortably anxious—what we’re experiencing is called stress. Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales (天平) going out of balance. Focusing on work and pretending everything is OK only leads to disastrous results. Medical treatment for stress may function for a while, but it tends to make things worse in the long run. The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.
12. What does the author say about anxiety
A. It is an invitation to diseases.
B. It indicates stable mental health.
C. It costs us many valuable chances.
D. It is a natural emotional expression.
13. Why does the author mention “good workout” in paragraph 2
A. To prove how exercise influences emotions.
B. To suggest an effective way to challenge limits.
C. To explain how anxiety builds emotional strength.
D. To show a positive connection between mind and body.
14. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The key to closeness is partners’ support.
B. Sharing anxieties improves relationships.
C. Humans are defined by their social nature.
D. Expressing feelings keeps us off anxieties.
15. According to the last paragraph, how can we deal with stress
A. Devote more energy to our work.
B. Increase resources available to us.
C. Seek professional medical treatment.
D Master advanced mathematical skills.

An Outdoor Trip That Speaks Louder Than A Regular Class
One day, as Jack, a science teacher, stressed the pressing need for protecting Tangerine Darters, a kind of fish, students in his class seemed uninterested and bored. Jack continued, but his students showed little enthusiasm.
He paused for a moment, allowing the silence to settle in the classroom. Then he went on in a different way.
“Imagine,” Jack began, his voice filled with passion, “the feeling of wading (趟水) through the clear shallow waters of Pigeon River, surrounded by the gentle sunlight. Picture the colors of the Tangerine Darters as they gracefully swim through the currents, their orange bellies (肚子) shining like rays of sunshine, or in that moment, a Tangerine Darter in your hands, its orange belly shining in the sunlight.” He painted a vivid picture with his words. Curiosity lit in his students’ eyes as they bent forward, eager to know more.
Jack continued, “The darters are very picky about their habitats. The place where they live should be very clean, and slight pollution could drive them away or even endanger their very existence.”
As Jack spoke, his passion spread quickly among his students, who started to ask questions, wanting to know more about the Tangerine Darters. Inspired by their newfound interest, Jack had an idea. Why not take students to the Pigeon River, where they can witness the beauty of the Tangerine Darters firsthand
A week later, they were on the trip to the Pigeon River in Canton, North Carolina, where the environment was well preserved in comparison with other industrial areas.
Sunshine bounced off the Pigeon River, and cool water flowed over rocks and boulders (卵石)—the preferred habitat of Tangerine Darters. With Jack, it was the first time that the students had stood in the shallow water, eager to see their target of this fish eco logy class field trip.

A 9. D 10. B 11. C
根据文章第二段“People run into issues where they make assumptions and say ‘Oh, I'm just going to use it’ or ‘It doesn't really matter. It's just a little paragraph’. But it does matter.”(人们遇到问题时,他们会做出假设并说“哦,我只是打算使用它”或者“这没什么大不了的,只是一小段文字”。 故选A。
根据文章第三段“it went against this policy, Bonanno said.”(如果违反了这项政策)可知,使用AI工具完成任务可能被认为是对学术诚信的违背,Bonanno说。)
根据文章第四段“Many instructors prohibit the use of AI in their classrooms because it runs the risk of disregarding academic integrity, but there are exceptions. Professor Whitney is teaching a course called Writing About and With Artificial Intelligence, which examines the role that AI can play in writing and involves using AI tools to better understand how to write with them.”(许多教师禁止在课堂上使用人工智能,因为这有忽视学术诚信的风险,但也有例外。
根据全文内容,特别是第二段“The rapid development of AI tools has led many people to question their impacts on academic life. During an event to educate students about AI and academic integrity, Emily Bonano, chief justice of the All-Campus Judicial Council (ACJC) , which is responsible for hearing individual cases relating to academic integrity, stressed that although AI as a common tool is a recent development, its impacts on academic honesty are already clear.”(人工智能工具的快速发展导致许多人质疑它们对学术生活的影响。 和第四段“Many instructors prohibit the use of AI in their classrooms because it runs the risk of disregarding academic integrity, but there are exceptions.”(许多教师禁止在课堂上使用人工智能,因为这有忽视学术诚信的风险,但也有例外。)
D. Master advanced mathematical skills.
D 13. C 14. B 15. B
根据第一段中的“Quite the contrary: it is an indicator of brain and sensory health. Once we accept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of life, we can use it to help us.(恰恰相反:它是大脑和感官健康的指标。一旦我们接受这是生活中正常的一部分,尽管不舒服,我们就可以用它来帮助我们。)”可知,焦虑是一种正常的情感表露。故选D。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中的“By nature, a ‘good workout’ is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what we can easily do.(从本质上讲,‘好的锻炼’是不舒服的,因为它涉及到将我们的体力推过我们可以轻松完成的事情。)”和“Similarly, if you want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some tension.(同样,如果你想在情感上更坚强,你需要面对一些紧张。)”
根据第三段“Humans are social creatures. When my patients learn to open up to their partners about their anxieties, they almost always report a greater sense of emotional closeness. Also, as international relationship expert Sue Johnson teaches, when we express our need for connection during challenging moments (e.g., ‘I’m having a hard time right now and could really use your support’), it creates greater connection and turns our anxiety into love.(人类是社会生物。当我的病人学会向他们的伴侣敞开心扉表达他们的焦虑时,他们几乎总是报告说有更大的情感亲密感。此外,正如国际关系专家Sue Johnson所教导的那样,当我们在充满挑战的时刻表达我们对联系的需求时(例如,‘我现在很难过,真的需要你的支持’),这会产生更大的联系,并将我们的焦虑转化为爱。)”可推出,本段主要讲述了分享焦虑有助于改善人际关系。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources, just like a set of scales (天平) going out of balance.(简单地说,对我们的要求超过了我们现有的资源,就像一组天平失去平衡一样。)”和“The only solution to deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the scales.(处理压力的唯一解决方案是通过数学来平衡天平。)”

Suddenly Jack bent and quickly caught a fish. Curious, the students crowded him around, eager for a closer look. In the sun, the fish’s o range belly was shining like rays of sunshine. “A Tangerine Darter!” students exclaimed cheerfully. “Beautiful, isn’t it ” Jack asked. A direct observation of the wonderful creature in the flesh stimulated the students’ interest. In the natural classroom, the Pigeon River, the students listened attentively to Jack’s introduction of the fish, such as what they eat and how they live and multiply. As Jack spoke, the students’ enthusiasm grew stronger.
Seeing the students interested looks, Jack began to raise a question. “Why can’t this fish live in other rivers ” Jack asked, looking into their burning eyes. Then, like in a regular lesson, he paused, allowing his students to reflect. One student responded, “They’re picky about their habitats.” Jack nodded smilingly. “So ” Jack continued. “If we pollute rivers at will, clear water like this will disappear, so will this beautiful fish,” another student answered thoughtfully. Seeing students truly involved, Jack felt a sense of satisfaction. The outdoor trip did prove to speak louder than a regular class.
