Hello, everyone! Today, I’d like to tell you something about Li Shizhen. He was a Chinese medical scientist in the
Ming period. He was born on 3rd July, 1518. Li’s grandfather and father hoped he could get a job in the government, but he
failed the exam three times. Then he turned to medicine. At the age of 41, he began to work as a doctor for the government
in Beijing. At work, Li read lots of medical books and found many mistakes in some of them. This gave him the idea of
writing a book, providing correct and clear information on medicine. He then spent 27 years writing his world-famous
scientific book, Bencao Gangmu. The book introduces more than 1,800 Chinese medical plants. It also describes the form,
taste, nature and use of them. It has been the most important work of Chinese traditional medicine in history.
