A
There are always the same number of restaurants on The Top 100, but every year offers more — more quality, more variety, more surprises. What never changes is how a restaurant gets on the list — wonderful food well served in an inviting setting, among which are some Chinese restaurants.
Long Island Pekin
Long Island Pekin reminds us of the first Chinese foods many of us fell in love with: the roast duck and pork, the lo mein and fried rice, the steamed dumplings and pot stickers. There are more, than a dozen dumplings and buns to start the meal, three types of noodles and then meats roasted in the “hung oven”, including Peking duck.
New Fu Run
New Fu Run has been serving the cuisine of Dongbei in Great Neck since 2017. Dongbei cooking tends to be earthier than Cantonese and not as spicy as Sichuan. Treat your taste buds (味蕾) to a cold starter of country-style beef with cucumber and the signature dish — Cumin Lamb Chop. Longing for something more familiar Call three days in advance and New Fu Run will’ prepare a three-course meal based on Peking Duck.
Splendid Noodle
It’s always a splendid occasion when there’s a chef twisting, pounding and swinging ropes of wheat noodles in the air. The most sought-after Chinese noodle houses have an open kitchen where the acrobatics (杂技) are on display. The Stony Brook shop offers this wavy noodle as well as a couple cold noodle dishes in light sesame sauce.
21. What qualifies a restaurant to get on the list of The Top 100
A. Unique dishes.
B. A splendid occasion.
C. Great food and environment.
D. More quality, variety and surprises.
22. What do Long Island Pekin and New Fu Run have in common
A. They serve spicy food.
B. They offer Peking Duck.
C. They have a cooking display.
D. They require advance reservations.
23. Where is this text most probably taken from
A. A cuisine book. B. A restaurant guide.
C. A restaurant marketing plan. D. An online food delivery platform.
C 22. B 23. B

根据第一段“What never changes is how a restaurant gets on the list—wonderful food well served in an inviting setting (永远不会改变的是餐厅上榜的方式——在诱人的环境中提供美味的食物)”可知,一家餐厅有资格进入前100名靠的是美食和环境。
根据第二段“There are more than a dozen dumplings and buns to start the meal, three types of noodles and then meats roasted in the “hung oven,” including Peking duck. (有更多的东西,比12个饺子和小圆面包要开始吃饭,三种面条,然后在“红烤箱”中烤的肉,包括北京烤鸭。)”和第三段的“ Call three days in advance and New Fu Run will’ prepare a three-course meal based on Peking Duck. (提前三天打电话,New Fu Run 将根据北京烤鸭准备三道菜。)”,可知两家餐厅都供应烤鸭,故选B。
【23题详解】

The South Bronx is one of the poorest and most polluted places in America, with smog-choked freeways and smelly wastewater treatment plants.
“We’re a dumping ground,” Omar explains. “All the garbage from the rest of New York City ends up here.”
But Omar started looking at garbage in a different way. “A lot of what people throw away is perfectly good,” he says. “Just look at that stuff from construction sites — doors, sinks, toilets. People will buy those things. It’s only called garbage because somebody threw it away.” Omar was just out of college and working for an environmental group called Sustainable South Bronx when he started considering how to get this “good garbage” to people who could use it. Instead of destroying old things, why not clean them up and resell them Why not hire people in the community to do the work Better yet, why not make this business a “cooperative,” which means the people working in the business own it and share the profits
Out of this, Omar started the first cooperative in the country dedicated to reusing construction waste. To start his business, Omar put up flyers along the truck-jammed, trash-filled neighborhood streets, looking for people to work with him. He soon found four other dedicated workers. They rented a warehouse and started looking for donations of used materials.
In April 2008, Omar’s cooperative, ReBuilders Source, opened its business and began selling construction supplies — at reasonable prices — to neighborhood builders and home owners. With the help of city officials, he also began planning a new training program to help local residents learn the skills to get good jobs that help the environment and even start their own cooperatives. Workers were trained to carefully take buildings apart so that things like doors and windows can be reused instead of being smashed and sent off to a landfill. Deconstructing buildings this way could be a huge industry with many good jobs for people who need them.
“If you have a use for something,” Omar says, “it’s no longer waste.”
24. Why is the South Bronx mentioned in the first paragraph
A. To arouse readers’ interest. B. To serve as the background information.
C. To contrast with the other districts. D. To introduce a famous place.
25. Which was Not the reason for Omar’s creating a cooperative business
A. To provide jobs for local people. B. To deal with dumped rubbish.
C. To increase cooperation among neighbors. D. To make money from garbage.
26. Which of the following words best describe Omar
A. Idealistic and business-minded. B. Creative and action-oriented.
C. Practical and self-focused. D. Devoted and iron-hearted.
27. Which saying might interpret Omar’s action
A. Knowledge starts with practice. B. One good turn deserves another.
C. Four eyes see more than two. D. Kill two birds with one stone.
B 25. C 26. B 27. D
根据第二段““We’re a dumping ground,” Omar explains. “All the garbage from the rest of New York City ends up here.” (“我们是一个垃圾场,”奥马尔解释说。“纽约市其他地方的垃圾都被送到了这里。”)”和第三段开头“But Omar started looking at garbage in a different way. (但奥马尔开始用一种不同的方式看待垃圾)”可知后续内容要描述奥马尔如何利用这个地方的垃圾,所以第一段的内容是背景信息。故选B。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Instead of destroying old things, why not clean them up and resell them Why not hire people in the community to do the work Better yet, why not make this business a “cooperative,” which means the people working in the business own it and share the profits (与其毁掉旧东西,为什么不把它们清理干净再卖掉呢?为什么不雇社区里的人来做这项工作呢?更好的是,为什么不让这个企业成为“合作社”,这意味着在企业工作的人拥有它并分享利润 )”可知奥马尔创建合作企业的原因包括处理倾倒的垃圾、为当地人提供就业机会并从垃圾中获得利润,C选项“To increase cooperation among neighbors. (促进邻里和睦相处)”未提及。故选C。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“But Omar started looking at garbage in a different way. (但奥马尔开始用一种不同的方式看待垃圾)”和“Instead of destroying old things, why not clean them up and resell them Why not hire people in the community to do the work Better yet, why not make this business a “cooperative,” which means the people working in the business own it and share the profits (与其毁掉旧东西,为什么不把它们清理干净再卖掉呢?为什么不雇社区里的人来做这项工作呢?更好的是,为什么不让这个企业成为“合作社”,这意味着在企业工作的人拥有它并分享利润 )”可推测出奥马尔是一个“有创造力的”人。根据第四段“Out of this, Omar started the first cooperative in the country dedicated to reusing construction waste. To start his business, Omar put up flyers along the truck-jammed, trash-filled neighborhood streets, looking for people to work with him. He soon found four other dedicated workers. They rented a warehouse and started looking for donations of used materials. (以此为基础,奥马尔创办了国内第一家致力于建筑垃圾再利用的合作社。为了创业,奥马尔在卡车堵塞、垃圾遍地的社区街道上张贴传单,寻找能和他一起工作的人。他很快就找到了另外四名敬业的工人。他们租了一个仓库,开始寻找二手材料的捐赠)”可知,奥马尔执行力很强,是一个“行动导向的”人。故选B。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Workers were trained to carefully take buildings apart so that things like doors and windows can be reused instead of being smashed and sent off to a landfill. Deconstructing buildings this way could be a huge industry with many good jobs for people who need them.
C
For generations, we’ve spent the first third of our lives acquiring the college degrees we need to find jobs. These degrees are the stamps on our professional passports that pave the way for the remaining two-thirds of our journey. However, the future of work won’t be about college degrees; it’ll be about job skills.
According to the World Economic Forum, over one billion jobs, almost one-third of all jobs worldwide, are likely to be transformed by technology in the next decade. We’ve already seen this happen. Think of the apps you use to shop, track orders and simply stay informed. The stores need to keep them up and running at all hours, day after day, all year round, meaning they need those who can analyze and secure customer data.
In these and other similar situations, people are the organizing force making sure technology works the way we want it to. This means a quick rise in new kinds of digital jobs. According to the Forum’s Jobs of Tomorrow report, there’ll be a rapid influx of roles at the forefront of the data and AI economy, as well as new roles in engineering, cloud computing and product development. These jobs need talent with relevant skills, and importantly these skills can be learnt even by those without college degrees.
Shifting our focus from degrees to skills will mean transitioning (过渡) to always-on skills-based education and employment organizations that acknowledge not just certification but fitness-for-job and employment as outcomes. In recent years, several companies have focused on continuous learning for the workforce — the trend will become stronger.
When it comes to skills, employers look for more than just technical panies want people with an eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset and an ability to handle complex issues. These too are skills that can be learnt. Anyhow, lifelong learners with ever relevant skills will be in greater demand in the workplace.
28. How does technology influence the jobs
A. It calls for higher demands for degrees. B. It makes many jobs less challenging.
C. It reduces their dependence on degrees. D. It connects them with degrees closely.
29. What does the underlined word “influx” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Change. B. Recovery. C. Decline. D. Increase.
30. What will future employers value most concerning their staff
A. Their traditional technical skills. B. Their continuous learning abilities.
C. Their certification-based education. D. Their desire to start their own business
31. What might be the best title for the text
A. Skills Are Different From Degrees B. Degrees Will Be More Competitive
C. Degrees Will Shape the Future of Work D. Skills Are More Vital for Future Work
C 29. D 30. B 31. D
根据第三段中“These jobs need talent with relevant skills, and importantly these skills can be learnt even by those without college degrees.(这些工作需要具有相关技能的人才,重要的是,即使没有大学学位,这些技能也可以学习)”可推断,科技降低了工作对学历的依赖,突出技能的重要性。
根据第四段“In recent years, several companies have focused on continuous learning for the workforce — the trend will become stronger.(近年来,一些公司已经开始关注员工的持续学习——这种趋势将变得更加强烈)”及最后一段“Anyhow, lifelong learners with ever relevant skills will be in greater demand in the workplace.(无论如何,拥有相关技能的终身学习者在工作场所将会更受欢迎)”可知,未来的雇主会更看重员工的持续学习的能力。
D
As the sun shines, people will flock to parks to breathe the fresh air. But air pollution is worsening in many places around the world.
Unfortunately, in the western tradition, neither materialist nor idealist theoreticians give enough consideration to this basic condition for life. As for politicians, despite proposing restrictions on environmental pollution, they have not yet called for it to be made a crime. Wealthy countries are even allowed to pollute if they pay for it.
But is our life worth anything other than money And why do we find it more difficult to get the clean air Do the woods, which are often described as “the lungs of the planet”, no longer, offer us the gift of breathable air by releasing oxygen No! In fact, they do give off the oxygen, but their capacity to renew the air polluted by industry has long reached its limit. If we lack the air necessary for a healthy life, it is because we have filled it with chemicals and weakened the ability of plants to regenerate it. As we know, rapid deforestation combined with the massive burning of fossil fuels is an explosive recipe for a permanent disaster.
The plant world urges us in silence that it’s time for us to care for our breath and put emphasis on the interdependence which exists between our humans and the plant world. We will have access to clean air only when humans learn to share life, both with each other and with plants. This task is both ethical and political because it can be fulfilled only when each takes it upon himself and only when it is accomplished together with others. The lesson taught by plants is that sharing life expands and enhances the sphere (范围) of the living, while dividing life into so-called natural or human resources diminishes it. We must come to see the air, the plants and ourselves as the contributors to the preservation of life and growth, rather than productive potentialities at our disposal. Perhaps then we would finally begin to live, rather than being concerned with bare survival.
32. The western politicians are accused by the author because they ______.
A. give priority to wealthy countries
B. don’t protect ordinary people’s right
C. fail to pass laws to limit environmental pollution
D. attach importance to theory rather than practical action
33. What is paragraph 3 of the text mainly about
A. Our relationship with the plant world.
B. Large-scale deforestation across the world.
C. The capacity of plants to renew polluted air.
D. The reasons hidden behind the serious air pollution.
34. How can humans accomplish the goal of protecting the planet
A. By showing respect for plants. B. By using all natural resources.
C. By preserving all forms of life. D. By pooling their efforts together.
35. What does the author suggest in order not just to survive
A. Expanding the sphere of living. B. Sharing life with nature.
C. Developing nature’s potentials. D. Controlling the resources.
C 33. D 34. D 35. B

根据文章第二段“As for politicians, despite proposing restrictions on environmental pollution, they have not yet called for it to be made a crime(至于政客们,尽管提出了对环境污染的限制,但他们还没有要求将其定为犯罪)”可知,西方政治家被作者指责,因为他们没有通过法律来限制环境污染。
根据文章第三段“it is because we have filled it with chemicals and weakened the ability of plants to regenerate it. As we know, rapid deforestation combined with the massive burning of fossil fuels is an explosive recipe for a permanent disaster.(这是因为我们用化学物质填满了它,削弱了植物再生的能力。正如我们所知,快速的森林砍伐加上化石燃料的大量燃烧是导致永久灾难的爆炸性配方。)”可知,第三段主要讲解的严重的空气污染背后隐藏的原因。故选D。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“This task is both ethical and political because it can be fulfilled only when each takes it upon himself and only when it is accomplished together with others. (这项任务既是道德的,也是政治的,因为只有当每个人都承担起这项任务,并与他人共同完成时,它才能完成。)”可知,人类可以通过通过共同努力实现保护地球的目标。故选D。
【35题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“The plant world urges us in silence that it’ time for us to care for our breath and put emphasis on the interdependence which exists between our humans and the plant world. We will have access to clean air only when humans learn to share life, both with each other and with plants(植物世界默默地敦促我们,是时候关心我们的呼吸,强调人类和植物世界之间存在的相互依存关系。只有当人类学会与他人以及与植物共享生命时,我们才能获得清洁的空气)”以及“We must come to see the air, the plants and ourselves as the contributors to the preservation of life and growth, rather than productive potentialities at our disposal.(我们必须把空气、植物和我们自己看作是保存生命和生长的贡献者,而不是我们可以支配的生产潜力)”可知,作者建议与自然共享生命,而不仅仅是为了生存。故选B。

Her teachers would often ask her to make posters for school plays and call on her during free periods to help with cuttings, drawing, shading, colouring and much more. There was an art competition taking place in school and Anabia had worked really hard and wanted to win it. But there was one thing that was disturbing her today.
Recently, a new girl, Rida, had joined her class. She was also interested in art but she was not as good at drawing as Anabia was. Miss Saima, the art teacher, helped Rida and taught her tips and tricks to improve her drawing skill. And now Rida was also considered among the best artists in grade six.
Rida was quick, smart and intelligent. Anabia became jealous of Rida’s intelligence and felt that the new girl would be tough to beat.
So that day, for the art competition, Miss Saima took all the students to the art room, told them their roll numbers and gave important instructions. Anabia’s roll number was 16, while Rida was number 17. The bell rang, indicating the beginning of the contest. Miss Saima wrote on the board: make a scene of a sunset with a flowing river and a sailing boat.
Anabia knew that the best tools to make a sunset were oil pastels (油画棒). Anabia started to look for her oil pastels in her art bag. Then, after looking through the bag, she remembered that she had left them at home. Immediately, she got up to tell Miss Saima.
Miss Saima was disappointed at Anabia’s carelessness and told her that she could not help her, as it was her responsibility to come prepared for the contest that had been announced a week in advance.

A. Idealistic and business-minded. B. Creative and action-oriented.
C. Practical and self-focused. D. Devoted and iron-hearted.
27. Which saying might interpret Omar’s action

C. Four eyes see more than two. D. Kill two birds with one stone.

Skills Are More Vital for Future Work
D The reasons hidden behind the serious air pollution.

Anabia’s best friends were also there, but none of them offered to share anything, much to Anabia’s surprise and disappointment.
