During the final term of my theater and performance degree, I found myself standing outside
Berkeley Court care home with three classmates and an underdeveloped idea. We planned to hold
some interactive workshops with the residents to try to inspire memory and social engagement.
I remember being nervous, aware that we were working with people who were vulnerable and
that I had no idea what I was doing. Some residents were almost nonverbal, some were clearly not
with it, some were happy to see us, and some were not.
I had decided to play music at the end of the session. We went with the song My Way because
the residents, all roughly 80 years old, would have been listening to the hit song in their late 20s.
Once I pressed play, it was as if a spell had been cast. Nearly everyone in the room stood up
and sang what seemed like every word. I was so profoundly moved. Many of them were
communicating much better. It looked and felt like magic.
Off I went to drama school, but I thought about that experience almost daily. So when we were
given the opportunity to write a script for a theater festival, I created a love story about music and
dementia (痴呆), spanning 50 years of a couple’s life.
And now, 10 years later, the show I made is running again in London thanks to the Music for
Dementia campaign.
I now know that music-based interventions reduce the need for anti-psychotic medication (抗精
神病药物) in more than 60 percent of people living with dementia. I don’t know what my My Way
would be, but I certainly think we should all strive to find our song and do our best to stay
connected to the people we share it with.

It seems that the era of fancy, well-known restaurants has ended as people are now more
interested in finding which hole-in-the-wall restaurant (苍蝇小馆) has the best food. Nowadays, it’s
more fulfilling to post hole-in-the-wall restaurants you have found on Xiaohongshu and be asked

Hole-in-the-wall restaurants are small restaurants that are not highly decorated but have many
delicious local dishes. Though they have long served as the “canteen” of their surrounding

Now, hole-in-the-wall restaurants are often found in the corners of small lanes and alleys in

Many hole-in-the-wall restaurant lovers desire a more natural lifestyle, with some viewing their
dining habits as a protest against consumerism. A native of Wuhan surnamed Tian, appreciates that
these humble diners cook food with care. In contrast, some internet-famous restaurants only use
pre-made food or simply stir-fry their dishes, she complained. This results in the foods having
similar tastes.
A university student surnamed Zhou, tried a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with her boyfriend after
friends recommended it to her. She ordered three dishes, which only cost 64 yuan. “The food tastes
good, and it’s cheap,” she said.
Still, there are risks for both owners and fans of hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Zou Zhiping, a
professor at Hubei University Of Economics, said that due to limitations in funds and management

The sun’s “sneeze” arrived as predicted! Chin’s National Center for Space Weather (NCSW)
forecast geomagnetic activities to occur from March 24 to 26. According to monitoring data, Earth
experienced a geomagnetic storm that lasted for 12 hours on March 25.
Geomagnetic storms happen due to coronal mass ejections (CMES,日冕物质抛射 ) during
which some material from the sun’s outer layer makes its way to Earth. They can shoot out a huge
amount of material and carry a strong magnetic field, which causes major changes in Earth’s
magnetic environment.
“Geomagnetic storms can disrupt radio waves and cause problems for ground communication
and satellite signals,” Professor Cai Zheng from Tsinghua University said. This can influence the
accuracy of navigation systems and the quality of signals for phones and satellite TV. Strong
geomagnetic storms can also impact power transmission systems, even resulting in power outages.
To ease off the effects of geomagnetic storms, it’s recommended to power off unnecessary

Today I want to talk about the importance of being prepared. There is a famous saying that goes: “If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” It’s famous because it is so true. Let me share with you a story that happened to me recently that proves this.
Over the summer, I had to get the main bedroom of my house rebuilt. Last week, I organized for a building examination for 11:00 on Monday. Well, at 10:55, I was still in the shower. I had forgotten all about it! When the examiner knocked on the door, I rushed out of the shower. However, I hadn’t taken the time to upgrade all the paperwork. I was totally unprepared — not to mention completely embarrassed! By 11:05, the examiner had left. He couldn’t wait around for me to get ready as he was scheduled for another job somewhere else. I made him angry by wasting his time. Unfortunately, I had to book another appointment — and I had to pay twice!
The point I am trying to make is, please, whatever you do in life, always be prepared!
