表示某动作或状态在过去某时间就已经开始但一直持续到现在，也有可能再持续下去。与这种用法搭配的时间状语通常有for和 since（自从；自…以来）结构。
“for+时间段” 如：for two months/days/hours…
“since+一段时间+ago” 如：since two months ago
“since+过去时间点” 如：since last September/1990
“since+过去时的从句”如：since he was a baby
且for与since引导的时间状语可以相互转换。
★现在完成时与表示一段时间的状语连用时，谓语动词不能用非延续性动词，如：leave, arrive, come, go, return, join, die, buy, borrow等，但可以用意思相同或相近的延续性动词来表达。
如：buy-have, borrow—keep, leave-be away, die-be dead, arrive/come/go-be in等。
如：他们到北京两天了。
