Bees are truly fascinating insects that we often see flying around gardens or woods. They move from one flower to another and might even come inside our homes. They make the skies of gardens or forests more beautiful.
What does a bee look like A bee has six legs and two sets of wings on each side of its body. Its body is divided into three parts: the head, thorax (胸部), and abdomen (腹部). Bees have two feelers on their heads called antennaeand two large eyes on each side. They come in different colors and shapes.

Honey bees use it to make honey. Meanwhile, yellow pollen sticks to the bees’ hairy legs as they gather food.
Why are bees important While we enjoy honey as a sweet treat and beeswax (蜂蜡)for candlemaking, bees play a far more important role in our life. There are 706 billion LEGO bricks (积木)on the earth, 7 LEGO sets are sold in every second, and more than 400 million people have played with Lego bricks. LEGO has already been a successful company in the world. Actually, there are many ups and downs along with its development.
Start from woods
The LEGO company was set up in 1934. The name comes from the Swedish “leg godt”, meaning “to play well”. Ole Kirk Kristiansen, the founder of LEGO, was a master carpenter (木匠大师), so it’s not surprising that the first LEGO toys were made of wood. They were simple, such as wooden ducks. In 1942, the factory that made wooden LEGO toys was burned to the ground, which made Ole realize the disadvantages of working with wood.
Success—brick by brick
Soon Ole found out that plastic is a good material to make toys. LEGO started making self-locking bricks in 1949. But it wasn’t until 1958, when the locking design was much improved, that sales were rising. Because of its quality and the endless creativity that it lets children have, LEGO achieved a huge success.
Overcome difficulties
In 2000, children began to spend more time playing video games. By 2003, LEGO’s sales were down by 30%, and LEGO nearly went broke. The turning point appeared in 2004 when LEGO focused again on its bricks. And it also worked with films and televisions, like Star Wars. The Internet was used to build a LEGO group where fans show their love to LEGO collections. In 2015, it again became a name known by the world.
36. What can we learn from the numbers in Paragraph 1
A. LEGO has a long history. B.LEGO has achieved a huge success.

D
Have you ever wondered why we say maidongxi(卖东西)instead of mainanbei, shangcesuo(上厕所)instead of xiacesuo, and yijianxiangzuo(意见相左)instead of yijianxiangyou Many Chinese words have directions in them, and there is lots of history and culture hidden behind.
East or West
When going shopping, Chinese people say maidongxiinstead of mainanbei. A theory says that in the Tang Dynasty, there were two popular markets in Chang’an, the national capital at the time. One was called the East Market, and the other was called the West Market. When shopping, people usually went to the East Market first, and then went to the West Market. As time went by, people started to describe shopping as maidongxi.
Up or down
We use shangcesuoto mean “go to the bathroom” and xiachufangto mean “go to the kitchen”. Why In ancient times, houses were laid out (布局)in a certain way. The gate of the house would face south, with the bathroom in the northeastern part of the house and the kitchen in the southeastern part. On maps, north is usually at the top while south is at the bottom. In Chinese, we talk about the north as shangand the south as xia. So people would say they’re going up to the bathroom and down to the kitchen.
Ancient Chinese not only used shangand xiato refer to (指代)directions but also social positions. For example, people used huangshangto refer to the emperor and dianxiato refer to princes who had a lower position than the emperor.
Left or right
Most people today are right-handed. They feel uncomfortable if they try to use their left hand to write or use chopsticks. This was true in old times as well. So in ancient China, “left” was related to (与……有关联)being different, such as in yijianxiangzuo. If people don’t accept common beliefs (信念), we still say they are following ________.
When shaking hands, it’s important to know which hand to use. In most cultures, the right hand is generally used for a handshake. For example, in some countries, such as India and Nepal, the left hand is considered unclean. However, if you are in a culture where the left hand is used, you’d better do as the locals do.
“Left” and “right” also have something to do with people’s social position. For a long time in ancient China, “right” stood for higher position than “left”. For example, the character “佑”, developed from “右”, means a person in a higher position would protect someone in a lower position.
41. Why does the writer use shangcesuoand yijianxiangzuoin the first paragraph
A. To tell a story. B.To introduce the topic.
C. To give an example. D.To solve a mystery.
42. Which of the following Chinese expressions can be used as an example in “Where to buy things”
A. 东市买骏马,西市买鞍鞯 B.东边日出西边雨
C.青山横北郭,白水绕东城 D.任尔东西南北风
43. Which picture shows the layout (布局)of houses in ancient China according to the passage
gate ; bathroom ; kitchen
A. B.
C. D.
44. Which of the following can be best put in ________
A. qishangmanxia B.shangcuanxiatiao
C.pangmenzuodao D.zuosiyouxiang
45. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE
A. In ancient China, most of the people were left-handed.
B.In ancient Chinese, the word “right” meant being different.
C.In India, people should shake hands with their right hand.
D.When shaking hands, we should never use the left hand.

四、任务型阅读阅读下面的短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词,每个空格只填一个单词。(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
Climbers can be a very tough (艰难的)crowd and among them is the British Joe Simpson. In 1985, Simpson set out to climb Siula Grande in South America. Shortly after he got to the peak, Simpson fell over in the snow and broke his leg. In this situation, a broken leg means almost certain death, but Simpson tried and successfully pulled himself across fields of ice and stone until he reached the base camp eight kilometres away. How did he make it Over and over again Simpson broke the main task down into smaller goals.
Break your main task into smaller goals. This is often the key to a successful plan to achieve challenging goals that seem to be impossible.
Language learning, similar to mountain climbing, is a tough task to most language learners. However, learning from the above story, we can use Simpson’s method to study languages. My tips for designing a study plan are as follows:
Understand what kind of learner you are
Some people are “visual (视觉)learners” and remember best by seeing pictures and imagining things in their mind; others are “auditory (听觉)” and are happy to learn by listening; “kinesthetic(动觉)” learners tend to learn by doing things and experience.
Realize your own competence (竞争力)
You should realize what your strengths and weaknesses are. Also, you should know which skill you are going to improve most Spend your time on each skill properly. Then do a little every day rather than try to “cram” lots in a short time.
Write down your plan on a calendar
Decide which skill and what area you are going to practise each day. More importantly, your plan should be practical. Once you have a clear goal in your mind, write it down on your calendar. Each day you should carry out your plan according to your timetable. Do not delay or make up any excuses because of your failure to complete your daily task.
Studying is like climbing a mountain and you should take one step at a time. When you set out to climb it step by step you will find that it is not so difficult as you think. Similarly, it is also true in language learning. You can improve your language skills step by step. Break your main task into smaller goals, and you will realize your dream.
五、综合填空阅读下面短文,在空白处填入适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。有提示词的空格不限一词,无提示词的空格限填一词。(共10小题;每小题1.5分,共15分)
Many traditional woodcut prints (版画)are either black and white or simple in color, but reduction woodcuts (绝版木刻)can show rich colors.
The reduction woodcut uses one piece of wood to make a 56(colour)artwork. The artist cuts and prints different layers (层)in order on the same piece of wood. The reduction woodcuts became an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)in Pu’er, Yunnan, 57 2009.
LengGuangmian, in his 58(40), is a reduction woodcut artist. Leng started learning it in 2003. He said that making reduction woodcut prints is just like an adventure. “Every time we cut on the wood and then print, we never know 59 it will be like in the end.”
Finishing such work is not easy. He said that before cutting, he needs to plan for 60 whole print and choose colors for different layers. A big print usually takes months to finish.
Leng hopes that both woodcutting skills and the life in Pu’er61(show)through his creative artwork. “For my works, there are two themes: Tea Horse Road (茶马古道), because Pu’er is one of the starting places of that road; and disappearing villages,” Leng said. “Many old villages in Pu’er need 62(build)again. As a result, I want to make people remember their 63(beautiful)before they are gone.”
LengGuangmian is now getting more people 64(know)about the reduction woodcut. He and brings the art into schools in Pu’er. To make students understand the art better and learn it more quickly, he even thought of a new idea of cardboard printing. “By using a smaller cardboard and making it 65(simple)with three to five colors, students can get the charm of the art,” Leng said.
Nowadays, the popularity of Chinese traditional works of art is increasing. At an art museum in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, the woodcut prints are taking center stage for the first time.
