St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish festival that is celebrated on March 17th every year. On St. Patrick’s Day, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. People would dance, drink and eat the traditional meal of bacon and cabbage. The Water-Splashing Festival, also called Songkran, is a festival of the Dai people. This custom originated in India and has a history of more than 1000 years.
Every year from 13th to 15th in April, the Songkran Festival is celebrated among the Dai people in Xishuangbanna. Halloween is celebrated by Western cultures every year on the night of October 31st.

Halloween is celebrated by Western cultures every year on the night of October 31st.
According to legend, more than 2000 years ago, the Catholic Church in Europe invented a
holiday on November 1st, All Hallows’ Day, to honor saints and another holiday on November
2nd, All Souls’ Day, to honor dead people. To celebrate All Souls’ Day, people made big
bonfires and dressed up as angels, devils, saints and witches. They lit candles in lanterns made
of hollowed-out turnip or pumpkin to frighten away ghosts. On this night, people also travelled
from village to village to ask for food. It was believed that any village that did not give food
would have bad luck.
In the 19th century, Irish immigrants took Halloween customs from Europe to the USA.
Today in the USA and the UK in particular, Halloween has become a special occasion for
young people.
At Halloween, there are jack-o’-lanterns everywhere. People often make pumpkin pies
and pumpkin bread. Many people have “fancy-dress” parties. They dress like animals,
monsters or famous people!Children like Halloween very much. They go “trick-or-treating” in
