Step 1　Warming up and leading in

1．Show the students some pictures and learn the new words as well.

Step 3　Listening and reading
1．Listen and do Activity 2
(1)Play the recording.Ask the students to listen to the conversation once.
(2)Ask them to listen carefully again and check the things Betty suggests Lingling take.
(3)Ask them to read the conversation as quickly as possible and then check the answers.
(4)Let the students read the conversation after the recording three times and pay attention to stresses.

(1)Ask the students to read the conversation in groups and underline all the points which are important.

Step 1　Warming up and leading in
1．Review some famous places in Los Angeles and ask the students whether they want to learn English in Los Angeles if they have chances.

(1)Ask the students to look at the pictures and speak out the words.
(2)Let them speak out the meanings of the new words and the Chinese meaning of the expressions.

Step 2　Presentation
Explain grammar
并列复合句是指由并列连词and，but，or等把两个或两个以上的简单句连在一起而构成的句子。并列复合句中，并列连词前后的简单句可以表示不同的关系。
主要学习以下三种关系：
关系 用法 例句
并列关系 常由and连接，前后简单句的时态往往保持一致 Ann is from France，and Mary is from England.
选择关系 常由or(或者)连接，表示在两者之间选择一个，前后简单句的时态往往保持一致 In the club，you can play tennis，or you can swim.
转折关系 常由but连接，前后简单句的时态往往保持一致 Many boys like basketball，but I really like ping－pong.
　　注意：
◆并列复合句有时可不用连词，而用分号隔开(前后句的关系须相当紧密)。
eg：Jenny doesn't like apples；she likes oranges.
◆并列连词后面的简单句如果与前面的简单句有相同的部分，则相同的部分常可省略。
eg：Mr Wang will go to Beijing tomorrow，but Mrs Wang won't.
【设计意图】再次呈现语法旨在对前一单元语法知识的复习巩固，提醒学生在对话中注意连词的用法，深层感知连词的用法。
Step 3　Language practice
1．Do Activity 1
(1)Ask the students to read through the sentence parts in Activity 1.
(2)Have them join the two parts of the sentences with and，but and or.
(3)Ask three students to share their answers.Then check in groups.
(4)Let the students work in pairs and say the sentences.

(1)Ask the students to read the passage in Activity 2.
(2)Have them complete the passage with and，but and or.
(3)Let them show their answers，and then check the answers.
(4)Have them read the passage aloud.
