Outside Camelot , there is snow on the fields . Inside the castle , Arthur ' s wife and Sir Lancelot hate each other . Arthur is not well . Again and again , he says ,' I need Merlin ' s help . Where is he '
Sir Gawaine , one of the Knights of the Round Table , goes to look for Merlin . He travels for many , many days . One day he is washing himself in a fountain . From nowhere , a lady in red comes towards him . It is Lady Vivien and she has men with her .

He is still an ugly dwarf . One day , he sees a golden bird . It flies away , but he follows it . They travel far together , and the bird always waits for Sir Gawaine . At last , the golden bird takes Sir Gawaine to Merlin .
Lady Vivien ' s magic is strong . Merlin is still sleeping . But every six years , he wakes up for one hour . Merlin opens his eyes .' Find the Holy Grail,' he tells Sir Gawaine ,' But first,find a baby called Galahad . This child can find the Holy Grail .'
Then , slowly , Merlin falls asleep again .
Sir Gawaine leaves Merlin and follows the golden bird . It takes him to the land of Nymue , the Lady of the Lake . Nymue listens to Sir Gawaine ' s story . She feels sorry for him and she stops Lady Vivien ' s magic . Sir Gawaine becomes a man again .
He leaves Nymue and meets Sir Bors . Together they follow the golden bird and it takes them to the castle of Lady Elaine . There , they find Sir Lavaine , Lady Elaine ' s brother . But Lady Elaine is close to death . Sir Lavaine takes Sir Gawaine and Sir Bors to see her . Lady Elaine has a son . His father is Sir Lancelot and his name is Galahad .
' Please take my son and look after him ,' Lady Elaine says to Sir Bors.
A few days later , Lady Elaine dies .
Sir Gawaine ' s search is over . But a new one is beginning - the search to find the Holy Grail.

Life at the white house on the hill changes after that. A maid（女仆）and a cook come to their house. Mother stops writing her stories and has more time for the children. Then one day Phyllis says, “We never go to see the railway now.”
