Nowadays, people in China are increasingly interested in celebrating foreign festival, especially those western festivals.
A survey conducted recently by showed that among the 18,222 people surveyed 63.9% said celebrating Christmas is just another way of recreation, nothing serious while 17.85% surveyed considered the festival as a fashion act, showing they were not “out”. These two parts clearly indicate the general opinion of the young. 10.45 percent people involved said the celebration of a religious western festival with so much enthusiasm is absolutely ridiculous pursuit of foreign goodness. Only 7.8% of people define Christmas as a kind of festival colonization(殖民).
The arising of celebrating foreign festivals clearly has something to do with the advancement of China’s economy. In my opinion of view, Christmas and other festivals celebrated in China have difference from the origin. They have lost their religious background and turned into a big occasion to have fun and enjoy life. Shop owners' pockets are filled, the public's hunger for happiness is filled, and that is enough. Foreign festivals in China are more like carnivals giving people pleasure and enjoyment.
The crisis(危机) of traditional Chinese festivals that are losing their attraction may be linked to the culture tradition and background of the festivals. Most Chinese festival culture is related more or less to real life.
But the western culture shows much of romance. Some festivals have their religious background while others have much to do with culture and people. At this point, food seems to be too plain. Flowers and chocolates are more welcomed.
Foreign festivals in China today are celebrated for fun. They give people opportunities to relax and to show appreciation and gratefulness. The acceptance of foreign festivals generally depends on the openness of the public, the familiarity with the western culture, and most importantly, on people’s economic status.
24.From the survey we know that among the people surveyed _________
A.Most think celebrating foreign festivals is ridiculous
B.Many fear that traditional Chinese festivals will disappear soon
C.Some think that celebrating foreign festivals is a sign of foreign goodness chasing
D.half think celebrating foreign festivals makes people not go out of faction
25.The writer think that foreign festivals celebrated in China ________
A.have lost their religious background
B.are the same as those celebrated in the west
C.can give more fun than traditional Chinese festivals
D.may reduce the hunger of public people
26.What is the main difference between foreign festivals and traditional Chinese ones
A.Foreign festivals can make Chinese shop owners’ pockets full quickly
B.The food at foreign festivals is too simple
C.Chinese festivals always have something to do with culture
D.Foreign festivals are romantic while traditional Chinese ones are connected with reality
27.Which of the following may NOT be the reason why so many people accept foreign festivals
A.People can relax themselves .
B.People can show their thanks to others
C.Foreign festivals have longer histories than Chinese ones
D.People have known more about the western culture.

I was a shy girl. I didn’t even like to answer the telephone for fear I’d have to talk to somebody I didn’t know. I enjoyed the loneliness of exploring nature. However, at school I had to spend all day in the company of others. My escape was reading. I spend a lot of time studying and was rewarded with good grades. My only failure was Spanish — I’d get all As on my written work and tests, but Ds and Fs on the spoken part.
Eventually I went to college. During my third year of college, I had enough of being shy and determined to change my outlook and behavior. One day while at school, I noticed an advertisement for positions on the local classical music radio station. I had grown up listening to classical music, and I could easily pronounce names such as Tchaikovsky, Albinoni, and Chopin.
I had absolutely no background in radio, and absolutely no hope of getting the job. The idea of talking to thousands of listeners in “radio land” terrified me. However, I luckily survived the interview. I was given brief descriptions of symphonies (交响乐) and a public service announcement to read, and a list of composers’ names to pronounce. It wasn’t hard for me. I left the recording session (录音时段) with a sense of relief and a sense of accomplishment. About two weeks later I actually landed the job. It was a challenging job, but I grew to enjoy it greatly. I began to feel comfortable talking to people.
Although I now spend many hours each week talking with people, I’m still basically a quiet person. Perhaps it is my soft voice and my quiet nature that helps draw people out as they respond to my questions as I interview them. My former shyness is a fortune, as I can relate to people who feel discomfortable when they talk to newspaper reporters. I still enjoy moments of loneliness and the peace found in nature. But I’m also glad I decided to make a change in my life that has opened many doors and opportunities that I never knew existed.

30.What does the author later think of her quiet personality

C.It prevents her being a newspaper reporter. D.It draws a negative response from audiences.
31.The text mainly focuses on the author’s ________.
A.desire to find her true self B.feeling about being a radio hostess
C.story of exploring the meaning of life D.experience and feeling of overcoming shyness

Jameson Lobb, a 24-year-old investment banker from Toronto, was just one week into his new job on Wall Street. Over the past month, he’d been settling in to the New York City apartment he was sharing with his college buddy, an artificial intelligence engineer named Raphael Jafri.
Now, on Oct. 4, 2021, the two were squeezing in a lunchtime workout on Pier (码头) 15. overlooking the East River, when Lobb froze. “Somebody’s in the water,” he said. Before Jafri could respond, Lobb climbed over the rail at the edge of the pier and leaped into the cold, polluted water without taking the time to remove his shoes.
Jafri didn’t need to see the victim. Maybe Lobb saw someone in the water who needs our help, he thought. Or maybe it’s Lobb who needs my help. Either way, I’m going in. He took off his shoes and swan-dived.
Approaching the unconscious victim, Lobb saw that it was a middle-aged man. When at last they reached Pier 15, they faced a new uncertainty. How-to get out On the pier, a crowd had gathered. From somewhere, the onlookers produced a rope and a life preserver (救生圈), which they threw to Jafri and Lobb. With the two men pushing from below and the crowd pulling from above, the man’s dangling body slowly rose until helping hands pulled him onto the pier.
From the metal beam (梁), Lobb climbed up onto the pier, but Jafri remained in the water a few minutes more, until he was rescued by the Coast Guard. Both men, Jafri in particular, thoroughly exhausted from 15-plus minutes in the water and bleeding from numerous barnacle cuts, watched as rescue workers loaded the nearly drowned man into an ambulance and drove away.
In place of that knowledge, they have a story they get to tell now, another experience that has further enhanced their bond. Lots of people were on the piers that day, yet only the two of them jumped in the water — because, they say, they were the fittest people there and, so, had a moral responsibility.
“If I know I’m capable,” Lobb says, “why wouldn’t I help ” Jafri adds, laughing, “People always say ‘If your friend jumps off a cliff, are you jumping ’ I think I answered that one.”

C.The process of saving a stranger. D.The value of people’s pulling together.
34.Why was Jafri left alone in the water after the rescue
A.He meant to gain Coast Guard’s help. B.He was found unconscious and bleeding.
C.He failed to climb up onto the pier. D.He was in worse condition.
35.What does the author intend to convey in the text
A.Unsung heroes deserve our respect. B.Danger is next neighbour to security.
C.Timely rescue always comes first. D.A friend in need is a friend in deed.

Although most games have winners and losers, the goal of sports is not to win every game. The real goals include getting exercise, having fun, and learning important social skills, like sportsmanship.
Good sportsmanship is all about respect. Good sports (有体育精神的人) respect their teammates and also their opponents. They respect their coaches, and they also respect the referees or other officials involved in their games. 36 They shout at their teammates and they talk back to coaches or referees.
Kids usually learn sportsmanship good and bad from the adults in their lives. 37 If parents and coaches show disrespect for other fans, referees, or each other, kids will likely act the same way on the field.

So be a good sport in whatever you do! 40 When others see you acting in a way that makes it clear that winning isn’t the most important thing, you can move on to focusing on the important things, like having fum, getting exercise, and improving your skills!
A.Good sportsmanship can be shown in many ways.
B.However, bad sportsmanship is all about disrespect.
C.Players’ parents and coaches set examples that kids tend to follow.
D.We can be good sports by encouraging others but not laughing at them.
E.Starting as a good sport earlier will help you be a good sport as you get old.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the animal shelter, Sarah walked through the rows of cages until her eyes landed on a small, trembling dog huddled (蜷缩) in the corner. “I think I’ve found the one, ” Sarah whispered softly to herself as she looked into the dog’s sad eyes. This timid, abandoned dog had no idea that a journey of transformation with friendly people lay in store for him.
The shelter staff explained that the dog, named Buddy, had a difficult past and was very shy and scared. Sarah extended a hand, offering a soothing tone, “Hey sweetie, you must have a story to tell, but from now on, you’ve got a buddy in me. ”
Bringing Buddy home was just the beginning of their journey, which was rocky at first for him. Everything was strange and new, causing him to hide under furniture and startle at every sound. Therefore, Sarah provided a cozy bed, delicious meals, and most importantly, heaps of love and comfort.
Slowly but surely, he started to emerge from his shell, wagging his tail tentatively and gazing at Sarah with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. Under Sarah’s patient and loving guidance, Buddy flourished, even learning tricks and commands, and forming a deep bond with his new owner.
The journey of healing turned out to be a success. But Sarah had never expected it would bring about another one.
One day, while scrolling through social media, Sarah came across a heartwarming story about dogs being trained to assist children with autism (自闭症). Those children had social communication difficulties and had few facial expressions and gestures. Without hesitation, she inquired about the program and soon, Buddy was enrolled in training to become a certified therapy(治疗) dog. What do disabled travelers look for when choosing a city to visit
In 2018, the value of the so called “purple pound” (the spending power of disabled people) to UK tourism was estimated at £15.3 billion, while 27 million travelers with disabilities in the US took 81 million trips and spent about $58.7 billion (£45.8 billion) in that same year.
There was a survey about a city’s appeal to disabled travelers. Now, let’s find out what the respondents think of the top 3 cities—Singapore, Las Vegas and Sydney.
According to Nilesh Joshi, who has mobility challenges but doesn’t use a wheelchair, “Singapore allows me to independently move around using public transport.”
Overwhelmingly, however, the most important factor for survey respondents was not physical accessibility but being treated with understanding and respect. Joshi said, “Always smiling, welcoming and helpful, the people of Singapore make a big difference for the disabled to feel accepted and looked after.” Besides, one of Singapore’s major tourist attractions, Gardens by the Bay, is fully wheelchair accessible.
According to prominent wheelchair blogger John Morris, who visits Las Vegas 3 or 4 times a year, “The city has one of the highest concentrations of accessible hotel rooms in the world.”
Julie Jones, publisher of Travel Without Limits, the world’s only print magazine dedicated to accessible travel, praises Sydney’s accessibility. She said, “The majority of the public transport system is accessible to wheelchair users.”

32.推理判断题。根据最后一段““If I know I’m capable,” Lobb says, “why wouldn’t I help ” (“如果我知道我有能力,”洛布说,“我为什么不帮忙呢?”)”以及第二段“Before Jafri could respond, Lobb climbed over the rail at the edge of the pier and leaped into the cold, polluted water without taking the time to remove his shoes.(在贾弗里做出反应之前,洛布爬过码头边上的栏杆,连鞋子都没脱就跳进了冰冷、被污染的水中)”可知,詹姆斯·洛布作为一个路人有爱心且无所畏惧。故选B。
33.主旨大意题。根据第四段“Approaching the unconscious victim, Lobb saw that it was a middle-aged man. When at last they reached Pier 15, they faced a new uncertainty. How-to get out On the pier, a crowd had gathered. From somewhere, the onlookers produced a rope and a life preserver (救生圈), which they threw to Jafri and Lobb. With the two men pushing from below and the crowd pulling from above, the man’s dangling body slowly rose until helping hands pulled him onto the pier.(走近昏迷的受害者时,洛布发现那是一个中年男子。当他们终于到达15号码头时,他们面临着新的不确定因素。怎么出去?码头上聚集了一群人。围观的人不知从什么地方拿出一根绳子和一个救生圈,扔给了贾弗里和洛布。两个人从下面推着,人群从上面拉着,这名男子摇晃的身体慢慢上升,直到有人伸出援助之手把他拉上了码头)”可知,第四段主要讲的是拯救陌生人的过程。故选C。
34.细节理解题。根据第五段“From the metal beam (梁), Lobb climbed up onto the pier, but Jafri remained in the water a few minutes more, until he was rescued by the Coast Guard. Both men, Jafri in particular, thoroughly exhausted from 15-plus minutes in the water and bleeding from numerous barnacle cuts, watched as rescue workers loaded the nearly drowned man into an ambulance and drove away.(洛布从金属梁上爬上了码头,但贾夫里在水里又呆了几分钟,直到他被海岸警卫队救起。这两个人,尤其是贾弗里,在水里泡了15多分钟,浑身是血,浑身是藤壶的伤口,看着救援人员把这个差点淹死的人抬上救护车,然后开车离开)”可知,营救结束后,贾弗里一个人留在水里是因为他的情况更糟。故选D。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段““If I know I’m capable,” Lobb says, “why wouldn’t I help ” Jafri adds, laughing, “People always say ‘If your friend jumps off a cliff, are you jumping ’ I think I answered that one.”(“如果我知道我有能力,”洛布说,“我为什么不帮忙呢?”Jafri笑着补充道:“人们总是说,‘如果你的朋友跳下悬崖,你也在跳吗 ’我想我回答了这个问题。”)”可推知,作者想在文中表达患难见真情。故选D。

40.G项“The example you set can be a powerful teaching tool for others.(你树立的榜样对其他人来说是一个强大的教学工具)”中的“others”与后文“When others see you acting in a way that makes it clear that winning isn’t the most important thing, you can move on to focusing on the important things, like having fum, getting exercise, and improving your skills!(当其他人看到你的行为表明胜利不是最重要的事情时,你可以把注意力转移到重要的事情上,比如运动、锻炼和提高技能!)”中的“others”呼应;“The example you set”与前文“So be a good sport in whatever you do!(所以无论你做什么都要做好榜样!)”中的“So be a good sport”呼应。故选G。
