among用作介词,意思是“在……之中;在……之内”,表示范围。
拓展:among用于下列情况:
(1)用于引出最高级的比较范围。

(2)表示“是……当中的一个”(相当于one of)。如:
I was among the first to come.我是来得最早的一个。

(1)how to grow corn 是“疑问词+不定式”结构,在句中作taught的宾语,可以改写成相应的宾语从句,即how they could grow corn。
拓展:英语中动词(词组)tell, advise, show, teach, find out, decide, learn, forget等可接“疑问词+不定式”结构作宾语。

(2)grow在这里用作实义动词,意为“种植;栽培(植物)”,指培植树木、庄稼等。
拓展:①grow作动词,还可以表示“长大,成长;增加,生长”等意思。它表示“生长,发育”时,是指由于自然的发展而变大或变成熟。常见短语:grow up长大成人。
②grow还可以用作系动词,意思是“渐渐变得,变成”,指由小变大、由少变多,强调渐变的过程。如:
