When Arvin Kuipers, who graduated from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine in 2017 and loves Chinese culture, asks his patients to stick out their tongue so he can diagnose(诊断) their illness, many are confused.
Kuipers, 30, practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, said, “In TCM I need to do face and tongue diagnosis. That's strange for people in my country.” One elderly woman had been visiting him occasionally for advice, but her first experience with TCM surprised her. She had never experienced acupuncture (针灸) or any other TCM treatment. “She came in, and I examined her face and tongue,” said Kuipers. “I told the patient her kidneys were not doing well and that she wasn't getting proper sleep.” The woman was shocked by his insight and asked if he had been spying on her. “Actually, it was easy to diagnose her condition when I saw the dark rings under her eyes. Her energy levels were also very low at the time."
Kuipers opened his TCM clinic in September. Most of his work involves performing acupuncture, cupping as well as tuina - a TCM massage that patients in the. West like the most, he said. In some cases he also gave his patients traditional herbal medicines.
Kuipers usually makes a cup of Chinese tea to calm his patients if they are nervous about the acupuncture needles. He also explains to them the meridian(经络) system, which is a central concept of TCM, yin and yang, and other concepts. “In TCM, good health requires balanced yin and yang, so practitioners not only pay attention to a patient's illness, but also to his or her overall physical condition,” said Kuipers. “TCM is also a different culture and offers a new perspective, instead of being a curing method."
As of early April, Kuipers has treated more than 200 patients, many of whom come to his clinic every week. “TCM does work, and works well. My patients really feel better with it, so I value it, and when my patients feel better I also feel better.”
24.What can we learn from the elderly woman's story in paragraph 2 ( )
A.The elderly woman trusted TCM treatment in the beginning.
B.TCM is very different from the treatment in her country.
C.The elderly woman used to visit Kuipers a lot for TCM.
D.The elderly woman was shocked at her kidneys not doing well.
25.Which TCM treatment is most welcomed by the patients in the West ( )
A.Acupuncture. B.Cupping.
C.Tuina. D.Herbal medicines.
26.What is paragraph 4 mainly about ( )
A.Why Kuipers'patients are fond of Chinese tea.
B.How Kuipers explains meridian system to his patients.
C.Why Kuipers pays little attention to overall physical condition.
D.How Kuipers applies Chinese culture and treatments to patients.
27.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage
A.To praise a man for his TCM treatments.
B.To stress the value of teaching foreigners TCM.
C.To tell a story of practising TCM in Netherlands
D.To show the popularity of TCM in the world.

The Summer Olympic Games this year are in Paris, France, which does not have an ocean. So, how do organizers plan to present competition in the sport of surfing They are taking that Olympic event in a small coastal village called Teahupo'o in the South Pacific country of French Polynesia. Hundreds of people are expected to visit Teahupo'o to watch the sport, as the surfers go out onto the famous waves from July 27 to August 4.
Proposed preparations for the event included building temporary housing, roads, and even a large structure out on the water. The work called for drilling into a coral reef. However, opposition to the plans quickly grew. Environmentalists, locals and surfers joined forces to protect Teahupo'o's culture, its corals and other sea life.
For locals, Teahupo'o beach was a"secret spot" with a special energy known as "mana", and they want that special quality protected. There are concerns that a week of Olympic competition there could destroy the "mana"."It was too much for us, a big change," said Levy, a Tahitian surfer and a volunteere on a local environmental organization.
Some people worry that the drilling into the reef will disrupt the ecosystem and attract a dangerous algae(海藻). If fish eat the algae, people who eat the fish can become sick."The water is where we get our dinner," 22-year-old Maitei, a spearfisher catching fish to feed his family, said.
Local Tahitians’ worry were confirmed when a boat working on some Olympic construction hit a piece of the reef and broke it. "In Polynesian culture, gods are everywhere in nature, in the coral, in the ocean. If we break a coral, we break a home," Cindy Otcenasek, a local official, said.
No new buildings or roads are welcome for the locals. And the organizers are adjusting their plans as a result. For example, they will not be building any Olympic housing. Instead, athletes will stay on a nearby boat. Homes of locals will serve other Olympic housing needs. Judges will watch the competition from the platform. The whole world is ready for the great events and the impact.
28.Why is the 2024 Olympics surfing to be held in Teahupo'o ( )
A.It is the sister city of Paris. B.It is the best choice for the sport.
C.It aims to develop its tourism. D.It has favorable geographic location.
29.What makes Teahupo'o beach special to local Tahitians ( )
A.The rich fishing resources. B.The surfing spots.
C.The power of mana. D.The unique corals.
30.Why are some local people opposed to the Olympic plans in Teahupo'o ( )
A.They are worried the event will damage the environment.
B.They want more construction and development in the area.
C.They think the event will bring too many tourists.
D.They don't like the sport of surfing.
31.What are the organizers doing to address the local concerns in Teahupo'o ( )
A.Building new roads and housing for the event.
B.Cancelling the Olympic surfing competition.
C.Relocating the event to a different location.
D.Adjusting their plans to minimize the impact.

Nobody needs reminding that exercise is good for our health, but we may need reminding that it needs to be done in the right way.
Light exercises are a great way to improve circulation and keep our muscles active, especially if the rest of the day will be spent sitting in front of a computer or in a lecture hall. However, certain sports like long distance running require training to build up our bodies so they can handle the challenge. If we go into such sport cold, it can shock our muscles, hearts, lungs, and other organs and cause severe pain or in some cases, even death.
Some people are born with medical conditions that go unnoticed until they stress the unstable part of their body. A weak heart may never be seen until we do something that causes extreme physical effort. Recently there have been cases of people dying while running long distances. Also, a university student died after taking a 1.000m running exam. Some universities and high schools have cut long distance races (i.e. 3.000m,5,000m) from their campus sports games, partly because of the supposed danger and partly because they say fewer people are entering such events.
Maybe education about such events is lacking, especially during primary and high school. People participating in such competitions should realize that a reasonable amount of training is required beforehand and having a medical check is wise, especially. for a marathon. People shouldn't be forced to participate in events that push them past their limits, especially if they haven't warmed-up completely. Cancelling events could lead to people becoming less healthy and overweight. Maybe these events shouldn't be cancelled, but organizers and participants should be more careful about regular health checks.
32.Why does the author write the text ( )
A.To give us some reminding on exercises. B.To persuade us to take less sports.
C.To advise students to have regular exercises. D.To require cancelling long distance running.
33.What does the underlined word “cold” in paragraph 2 probably mean ( )
A.Having trained a lot. B.Without any preparation.
C.Having a low temperature. D.In an unfriendly way.
34.Why do some universities and schools cancel long distance races ( )
A.Because no students are willing to enter such events.
B.Because the students' physical conditions are too poor to finish them.
C.Because long distance running is not fit for students.
D.Because they worry about the supposed danger in such races.
35.What does the author advise us to do before running a marathon ( )
A.Be well prepared and cared for. B.Push ourselves past our limits.
C.Participate in it confidently. D.Try to lose some weight first.
第二节(共5个小题,每题2.5分;满分12.5分)

Outside, in his front yard, Jack started with a very small ball of snow. It was a big job for a9-year-old boy like him. At their neighbor's window, his new neighbors, Cindy aged 7 and her mom, were watching him play.
Curious and excited, the girl pressed her face against the window, watching Jack's snowball growing. Her mother seemed to have read her mind and encouraged her to join the boy.
The boy and the girl began their teamwork soon. While Jack picked up a big snowball and made it the snowman's body, Cindy was collecting snow to make the snowman's head. Then they tried hard to put one snowball onto another. It roughly looked like a snowman! Tired but amazed, the two got on their knees and appreciated their great work.
