The email subject line grabbed my attention: “Still interested in the car ” I took a deep breath, my fingers shaking over the computer mouse.
Mom's car, a convertible (敞篷车), was a timeless beauty. Some of my favorite childhood memories were of us riding in it. Mom always wore her big sunglasses. I felt like I was riding with a super star.
Now, more than 30 years later, whenever I see a classic car drive by, those memories would flood back, and they were all I had left of Mom. She died when I was only 15. And with all of the changes that came after, many of her things were given away or sold. The car had been bought by a collector in Michigan. I had connected with him when I was in my early twenties, asking if he might ever be interested in selling. But he politely refused. However, I couldn't let go of the idea.
Now here was this email. I opened it. “I have several people who have asked to purchase that classic car,” it read. “It's time to sell, but I want to give you the first option to buy if you're still interested.”
“Absolutely! ”I typed, and then started working out the route of driving from Kentucky to Michigan to buy the car.
Finally, I was in front of the car. It was sitting in the driveway, washed and waxed. I hurried over to greet the collector. He shook my hand, and then went into the house to grab the documents for the car.
Later the collector returned carrying a small bag. I handed him the check. “I found this when I was cleaning the car a few days ago,” he said, passing me the bag.
I opened the bag. “Mom’s sunglasses!” I cried.
24. Why did the writer's fingers shake when he read the email
A. He was born with Parkinson's disease.
B. It revealed some secrets about his mom.
C. He was too nervous and frightened to recall the memories with his mom.
D. He was surprised and excited that he could buy back his mom's beloved car.
25. How did the author feel in paragraph 5
A. Hesitant. B. Eager. C. Determined. D. Reluctant.
26. Why did the author cry in the end
A. He owned the car finally.
B. He can be a super star with the sunglasses.
C. The sunglasses reminded the author of his mom.

Elephants call out to each other using individual names that they invent for their fellows, a study said on Monday.
While dolphins and parrots have been observed addressing each other by mimicking (模仿)the sound of others from their species, elephants are the first non-human animals known to use names that do not involve imitation, the researchers suggested.
For the new study, a team of international researchers used an artificial intelligence algarithm (算法) to analyse the calls of two wild herds of African savannah elephants in Kenya.
The research “not only shows that elephants use specific vocalizations (嗓音) for each individual, but that they recognize and react to a call addressed to them while ignoring those addressed to others,” lead study author Michael Pardo said.
“This indicates that elephants can determine whether a call was intended for them just by hearing the call, even when out of its original context,” the behavioral ecologist at Colorado State University said in a statement.
The researchers sifted through elephant “rumbles” recorded at Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve and Amboseli National Park between 1986 and 2022.
Using a machine learning algorithm, they identified 469 distinct calls, which included 101elephants issuing a call and 117 receiving one.
Elephants make a wide range of sounds, from loud trumpeting to rumbles so low that cannot be heard by the human ear.
Names were not always used in the elephant calls. But when names were called out, it was often over a long distance, and when adults were addressing young elephants.
Adults were also more likely to use names than calves, suggesting it could take years to learn this particular talent.
The most common call was “a harmonically rich, low-frequency sound,” according to the study.
28. According to the first two paragraphs, what is special about elephants
A. They can imitate other species.
B. They can mimic the sound of others.
C. They can invent individual names to call.
D. They can call out to each other very loudly.

A. Elephants use a fixed vocalization for each other.
B. Elephants ignore the calls intended to themselves.
C. Elephants recognize and react to the calls addressed to others.
D. Elephants can tell whether they are addressed by hearing the call.
30. Which of the following is true
A. Elephants’ sounds can all be heard by human.
B. Elephants prefer to call out names at any time.
C. Adult elephants can call out young elephants’ names.
D. Young elephants are born to use names to call each other.
31. In which column of a website can you see this passage
A. Nature. B. Health. C. Fashion. D. Education.

For the last three years, the volunteer team of students from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has been providing technological support for many desperate parents looking for their children by restoring photos. The team has reunited 11 missing children with their families. Its AI technology has increased the odds of finding missing children, reduced search time and brought hope to many families.
The team was founded by Sheng Jianzhong three years ago, when he was a doctoral student at HUST’s School of Software Engineering. He first thought to restore photographs of missing children when he came across a missing child notice with an image of poor quality in 2020. As he was majoring in digital image processing, he decided to use his skills to help the parents restore their images.
However, the development of an image restoration algorithm requires the construction of a large database, which cannot be completed by one person alone. Many like-minded students soon volunteered to join Sheng's project. After six months of detailed technological research and development, they produced an image restoration AI algorithm that solved the issue of unclear faces in photographs.
A restored image can be generated just minutes after an unclear portrait is put into the system, significantly improving the clarity of facial features. Parents are then able to print the
high-quality images of their missing children onto T-shirts or large posters. The volunteers have also made tapes and postcards with the restored photos to expand the scale of searches.
In the future, Sheng plans to build a more professional team. “\ It would use technology to help people who have lost their loved ones, and also cultivate more young scholars to work for good causes,” he said.
32. Which word can replace the underlined word “odds” in paragraph l
A. probability B. risk C. difficulty D. number
33. What is Sheng's inspiration for image restoration
A. More and more children's missing. B. The development of AI technology.
C. His major in digital image processing. D. A missing child notice with an unclear image.
34. Which of the following statement about Sheng Jianzhong is right
A. He solved the issue of unclear faces in photos alone.
B. After he got his doctor's degree, he founded the team.
C. His team hasn't reunited children with their families so far.
D. He plans to call on more professionals to participate in the cause.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Family reunion matters most. B. Where there is a will, there is a way.
C. AI helps missing children return home. D. Good causes deserve people's participation.

There were many embarrassing times and situations when I was in primary school. I vividly remember a moment that I still regret to this day.
During my childhood, an important part of my time was spent on my collection of National Geographic magazines. Each year on my birthday, my mother would gift me a new magazine to add to my growing collection, which I treasured very much. One day, when I was seven, I ran across a picture of a bologna tree. However, I didn't actually read the article about the tree. I just thought I discovered the source of bologna sandwiches! Little did I know that this newfound knowledge would come back to trouble me in the future.
Not long after, I found an opportunity to show my rich knowledge and prove to my classmates that I was indeed a smart kid. During a classroom discussion about unusual things, I took the moment to confidently stand up in front of the whole class. With an air of authority, I declared, “It is a well-known fact that bologna sandwiches come from the bologna tree.”
I deeply believe that the delicious sandwiches I had tasted during a family vacation to Italy grow on trees. This extremely silly opinion was a source of both embarrassment and frustration for me. However, my teacher Ms Murphy at this moment was kind enough to smile and tell me that my misconception (错误想法) was “quite imaginative”. Unfortunately, my classmates didn't have the same opinion, as they laughed loudly and declared that my belief was “the stupidest thing they had ever heard”. It was a moment that made me feel foolish and ashamed.
For a while after that incident, I was filled with feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. I was ashamed of my inability to distinguish (辨别) fact from imagination. I felt like a clown (小丑),thinking that my classmates would never let me forget my foolish mistake.

1.续写词数应为 150左右;

写作第一节
One possible version:
Distinguished teachers and fellow students,
It's a great honor to stand here to deliver my speech. My topic is The Scientist I Admire Most. For me, the scientist must be Yuan Longping, the Father of Hybrid Rice.
Born in a poor family in 1930, Yuan had a strong will to tackle the hunger crisis when he was young. Thanks to his research in hybrid rice, the rice production was greatly improved, ridding the world of hunger. His extraordinary contributions and valuable qualities have left a profound impression on me.
It is he that makes me realize that only with devotion and perseverance can we overcome difficulties. In my eyes, he was not only a scientist, but also a pioneer for all people.
That's all. Thanks for your listening.
写作第二节
One possible version:
For the next couple of weeks, I was determined to avoid any further embarrassment. I refused to open the magazines and kept my mouth shut during classes. I felt like I was walking on eggshells, constantly worried that I might say something foolish. I was afraid to share my opinions or ask questions. As a result, I became increasingly isolated. I didn't participate in any activities that might show my ignorance until Ms Murphy talked with me, enlightening me patiently. My spirits lifted, and I felt cheerful once more.
I began to share information with my classmates again and became more careful about the information. I started to double-check my sources and read articles in their entirety before sharing any information with others, unwilling to make the same mistake twice. It was a lesson learned the hard way, but it made me realize the importance of confirming information before presenting it to others. And while my bologna tree story might have been a bit embarrassing at the time, it ultimately taught me an important lesson that has stayed with me throughout my life.
