Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass are the greatest children’s book ever written. The way it came into being is curious, an accident as interesting as the book itself. On a “golden afternoon” in 1832, a shy Oxford teacher Charles Dodgson took the three little daughters of his college dean (主任) on a boat trip on the river with another Oxford teacher. Together they rowed along the river and had tea on the bank. As they moved along slowly over the river, Dodgson created the world of Wonderland. We like to think that he invented the story to make the young girls laugh, but more likely, he told the story in order to keep them quiet, to hold their attention, or to stop their many questions--or perhaps even to keep them from rocking the boat.
The story almost evaporated (蒸发) in thin air and would have but for the persistence of Dodgson's favourite of the three sisters, ten-year-old Alice Liddell. Many years after the river picnic, when Alice was an old woman, she remembered that the story that Dodgson told on that particular river journey “must have been better than usual” because “on the next day I started to pester (纠缠) him to write down the story for me which I had never done before.” Alice remembered that she “kept going on, going on at him” until he promised to satisfy her. For one reason or another, however, it took him almost two and a half years to deliver to his young friend the completed manuscript (手稿), illustrated with his own drawings.
He gave the small green leather book to Alice as a Christmas present in 1835. It was then clearly kept in an obvious place, and visitors would sometimes pick it up and look at it, even read through it. One visitor told Mrs. Liddel to advise its author to publish it.
On May 9, 1863, Dodgson got a letter from a publisher announcing that they would get the book published.

Today, many people spend a lot of time reading online. Whether reading news or e-books, people are spending more time staring at screens. While online reading opens up a great deal of knowledge to people, there are some disadvantages too, such as tired eyes, headaches, as well as difficulty in focusing on the text. Now a new reading system, Bionic Reading developed by a Swiss company, can help people overcome these issues, and most importantly, it aims to help people read faster online and develop a more in-depth understanding of the content.
The reading system improves the reading process by guiding the eyes through the text with artificial fixation points. In short, some parts of the words are displayed in bold (粗体的). As a result, the reader only focuses on the highlighted letters and lets the brain center complete the rest. Your brain can “read” faster than your eyes, so by reducing the number of letters your eye needs to look at, you can read faster while still preserving the full context.
The company discovered the system by accident. They were working on designing a book in a foreign language and realized they could read it if they sectioned it off. They worked for six years to develop Bionic Reading and are still working to adjust it.
An early study was conducted but more research is needed before it can be definitively shown that the system improves reading. Some people with ADHD (注意缺陷多动障碍) have proved that Bionic Reading helps them focus and understand what they are reading. Other people don’t seem to notice a big difference compared to the regular text. There’s also no evidence to suggest Bionic Reading is any better than the regular text. The best way to know if Bionic Reading helps you read better online is to try it yourself.
28.What is the main purpose of Bionic Reading
A.To make online reading more interesting.
B.To figure out several online reading problems.
C.To improve online reading speed and understanding.
D.To study the effects of online reading on the brain.
29.What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.The effect of current online reading.
B.The creation story of Bionic Reading.
C.The advantages of Bionic Reading.
D.The principle of Bionic Reading.
30.What can we infer about Bionic Reading from the last paragraph
A.It only helps with foreign languages.
B.Its effect varies among different individuals.
C.It is better than traditional reading methods.
D.Research proves it works for everyone.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Online Reading Is Of Great Benefit
B.A New System Improves Online Reading
C.Traditional Reading Faces New Challenges
D.Bionic Reading Changes Our Reading Habits

Last week a study was published showing that people with bowel cancer (肠癌) who drink coffee — quite a lot of coffee, two to four cups a day — were less likely to suffer a return of the disease. Experts have said that if the results hold in further studies, coffee could be prescribed (开处方) to cancer patients on the NHS (National Health Service) . That coffee does have an effect on human function is no doubt — but whether that impact is beneficial or harmful has been controversial (有争议的) since its beginning in the mid-15th century.
The native peoples of the forests of Kaffa in south-west Ethiopia searched for berries (浆果) from wild coffee plants that were shipped across the Red Sea to prepare the decoction (煮出的汁) known as qahwa, which was used to reduce their desire for sleep. Once mainstream Islamic courts said coffee was not poisonous, consumption became widespread among the Muslim populations in the Middle East and the Ottoman empire.
First regarded as a form of medicine, Turkish traders introduced coffee to Venice, where it was prescribed for digestive disorders. It was served in small, cold potions. London’s first coffee houses appeared in the 1650s, attracting customers with the advertised health benefits of the new beverage. However, not all were convinced. The 1674 Women’s Petition Against Coffee declared that too much coffee consumption weakened men and made them unproductive.
Since the 1960s, mass surveys of coffee drinkers have shown different results of its impact. In 1991 the World Health Organization listed coffee as a possible cause of cancer, but in 2016 this conclusion was reversed (反转) as more studies have shown a larger number of positive outcomes being associated with coffee drinking. Following centuries on the defensive (处于守势), it may be time for coffee professionals to dust down those handbills and channel their inner Pasqua Rosée.
32.What was the main finding of the recent study mentioned in paragraph 1
A.Coffee has no impact on human function.
B.Drinking coffee reduces the risk of bowel cancer.
C.People with bowel cancer should avoid drinking coffee.
D.Coffee has no effect on the return of bowel cancer.
33.Why does the writer mention the history of coffee consumption
A.To highlight the cultural significance of coffee in different regions.
B.To emphasize the historical controversy around coffee’s health effects.
C.To show coffee’s long-standing popularity and usage.
D.To show the link between coffee’s origins and its medical applications.

A.The Dark Side of Coffee: A Hidden Cancer Risk

D.Surprising History of Coffee: From Controversial Drink to Potential Cancer Cure
35.Which section of the journal might this article belong to
A.Health & fitness. B.Home & garden.
C.History & Culture. D.Finance & investment.

During the last several years, a new phenomenon has started to threaten the world’s agriculture: Honeybees are disappearing at frightening rates! However, bees provide us with a free, indispensable service that would be difficult to recover if it was lost. 50,000 bees can pollinate (授粉) 4,000 square meters of fruit trees. 36 . Here are what you can do to help bee populations:
Open a bee restaurant
37 . Especially attractive are flowers with bright colors, such as yellow, pink, blue or white. Make sure to combine early flowering plants with the late flowering ones, because different bee species have a different level of seasonal activity.
Become a bee hotel owner
A safe place to live is important especially for a certain species of bees. 38 . Or you can find a dead tree that’s standing in your neighborhood. You can find many creative ideas to make it look both functional and pretty on the Internet.
39
This is certainly not for every person. But becoming a beekeeper comes with advantages. You are carrying on a very rewarding practice and you are able to produce never ending honey for your whole family.
Set your focus on local honey
Local honey is not treated to look better on a shelf and tastes different from supermarket honey. When possible, always buy locally produced honey rather than mass-produced supermarket one. 40 . Supporting small beekeepers can give local beekeepers confidence to have more bees.
A.Get a new hobby of beekeeping
B.Don’t use farm chemicals to kill insects
C.Additionally, bees also contribute to some food sources
D.Invite these pollinators to your garden by planting flowers they like
E.Bees are largely fed on different flowers in the wild during warm days
F.By doing so, you can help the local small beekeepers raise their income
G.It is an easy job to create a little bee hotel by making holes into a piece of wood

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The prize may go to the fastest, but sometimes, the first one to cross the finish line isn’t the only winner. Nowhere was that more true than at a recent 5K invitational (邀请赛) in Shelbyville, Indiana.
There were two players in the match: Levi LaGrange and Axel Aleman, who hadn’t known each other before. Levi LaGrange, an 18-year-old student from Western Boone High School, has been expecting to be a professional sportsman for many years. Axel Aleman, who is from Sheridan High School, is a friendly and generous person and he is always more concerned about others than himself. Axel once said to his classmates, “When you are standing at a crossroad, you can choose the path of self-interest, or you can go the extra mile for someone in need. As a teen athlete, the choice is extremely clear.”
The game went very well at first. However, with less than half a mile to go, Levi LaGrange slipped, twisting his ankle. He said, “I was running up the little rolling hill and I hurt my ankle. I felt something was wrong with my ankle.”
Levi stopped and signed to Axel to pass him. Generally, winning a match should be the mission for a sportsman, But at that moment, the race became a secondary concern for Axel. “I was able to see he was in a lot of pain,” Axel recalled. “As I got closer to him, he narrowly fell down. I asked if he was all right. He said he felt like something broken in his leg.”
Rather than running ahead, in an extraordinary act of true sportsmen, Axel refused to leave Levi behind. “As soon as I saw him, I knew I had to do something,” Axel said. “It just seemed like the right thing to do. That mattered more than the race. I told him I wasn’t going to leave. I wanted to help him finish the match.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Minutes later, Axel walked closer to Levi.

第四部分 写作
第一节作答示例:
Dear Jason,
I’m delighted to share with you the current situation of smartphone usage among high school students in China. Nowadays, it’s quite common for high school students to use smartphones for various purposes, such as learning, communication, and entertainment. They utilize apps for online courses and homework help, keep in touch with friends, and enjoy games or social media in their spare time.
However, I believe that while smartphones offer great convenience, they also present challenges. Excessive use can affect students’ studies and health. It’s essential to strike a balance between the benefits and potential drawbacks.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节作答示例:
Minutes later, Axel walked closer to Levi. Axel picked Levi up and encouraged him to hold on to the end. Placing an encouraging hand at his competitor’s back, Axel remained with Levi for the remainder of the race. They advanced side by side, with eyes looking at the finish line. They even sang a song to cheer each other up. Eventually, the two crossed the finish line within seconds of one another. Axel even made sure Levi went first. To their surprise, the event organizer announced that they were both winners together.
Axel gained a lot from the incident. In the following days, Axel received lots of positive comments now and then. While he might have enjoyed the praise for his kindness, for him, the best harvest was the friendship with Levi. We might not always recognize when life hands us an opportunity to help others, but when it really does, we should take action. Axel said, “I would just really hope people do the right thing.” Yes, we should do that, not for others, but for ourselves.
