阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

There are always the same number of restaurants on The Top 100, but every year offers more — more quality, more variety, more surprises. What never changes is how a restaurant gets on the list — wonderful food well served in an inviting setting, among which are some Chinese restaurants.
Long Island Pekin
Long Island Pekin reminds us of the first Chinese foods many of us fell in love with: the roast duck and pork, the lo mein(捞面)and fried rice, the steamed dumplings and pot stickers. There are more than a dozen dumplings and buns to start the meal, three types of noodles and then meats roasted in the “hung oven”, including Peking duck.
New Fu Run
New Fu Run has been serving the cuisine of Dongbei in Great Neck since 2017. Dongbei cooking tends to be earthier than Cantonese and not as spicy as Sichuan. Treat your taste buds (味蕾) to a cold starter of country-style beef with cucumber and the signature dish — Cumin Lamb Chop. Longing for something more familiar Call three days in advance and New Fu Run will prepare a three-course meal based on Peking Duck.
Splendid Noodle
It’s always a splendid occasion when there’s a chef twisting, pounding and swinging ropes of wheat noodles in the air. The most sought-after Chinese noodle houses have an open kitchen where the acrobatics (杂技) are on display. The Stony Brook shop offers this wavy noodle as well as a couple cold noodle dishes in light sesame sauce.
21. What qualifies a restaurant to get on the list of The Top 100
A. Unique dishes. B. Great food and environment.
C. A splendid occasion. D. More quality, variety and surprises.
22. What do Long Island Pekin and New Fu Run have in common
A. They serve spicy food. B. They have a cooking display.
C. They offer Peking Duck. D. They require advance reservations.
23. Where is this text most probably taken from
A. A cuisine book. B. A restaurant marketing plan.
C. A restaurant guide. D. An online food delivery platform.
B
Tessa Lidstone remembers the last meals she cooked before she had to close her restaurant Box-E for the first lockdown. “Everything was slipping away and beyond our control.”
With the restaurant closed, Lidstone got to thinking about how other people might be coping. “I felt isolated,” she says, “but I was so lucky: I had my husband and kids with me. I thought about all the people without a support network and how awful it must be to not have contact with anyone.”
Lidstone saw a callout from a collective of Bristol restaurants called the Bristol Food Union. They were looking for volunteers to help put together boxes of emergency food for the elderly living alone. “I’d love doing that to give my life purpose,” says Lidstone.
“It was originally going to be for two weeks. But it just grew from there.” In her first week, Lidstone put together boxes for 100 people: pasta, bread and milk, but also fruit and vegetables. By the second week, she was organizing packages for 250 people.
The government provided funding and most suppliers were more than willing to help. “They were so generous,” she says. “If I ordered milk, bread and butter, they’d donate fruit and vegetables as well. It meant I could make the money go further.”
Lidstone put her restaurant training to good use, creating a weekly recipe card to go in each box. She also videoed herself making the meal and posted it online. “It was basic home cooking,” she says. By week three, Lidstone was thinking bigger: “If there were any birthdays coming up, I arranged something extra for the persons.”
By then, the scale of Lidstone’s operation had become a bit overwhelming. Staff from the restaurant and Lidstone’s children helped out. In all, Lidstone and her team delivered 2,500 boxes over 16 weeks. “It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by a situation,” she said, “and think you can’t do anything alone. But work together and we’ll make a difference.”
24.Why did Lidstone respond to the appeal of the Bristol Food Union
A.To turn her restaurant Box-E from losses to profits.
B.To make herself feel less isolated in the lockdown.
C.To help lonely old people have access to free food.

I was 18 when I first went to sea as a tourist. As a teenager who always looked for novelty and a real adventure, I joined the Merchant Navy immediately after school. I got a round-the-world journey as my first trip. We went to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and sailed down the Panama Canal. Over the next 15years, I enjoyed a joyful life as a steward(乘务员), working long hours but playing hard during my time off. Then on the evening of my 33rd birthday in November 1983, we stopped in Trinidad and a group of us went to the land to celebrate. But when I opened my eyes at noon the next day, I knew I was suffering from more than just the typical effects of being drunk and staying up all night—I found I could see nothing.
As I was helped off the ship, I tried to calm down, assuming the situation was temporary. Later, I flew back to the UK and was examined by a specialist. He told me I had a rare serious medical condition, which could make me blind for the rest of my life. I couldn’t process what I’d heard at first; it just didn’t seem to make sense.
In the following months, I felt my life was over. I had lost not only my sight but also my independence—I was trapped in my house with no income. At first, I found it difficult to make my way from one room to another, and the thought of going outside filled me with anxiety.
The turning point came when I went on a camping holiday with other visually damaged people—it made such a difference to be able to talk to people who understood my situation. Later, I started a two-year course at the Royal National Institute for the Bind, learning new skills. Halfway through the course, I got my first guide dog, Otis, which changed everything. I had a friend who always stayed with me—it was as if all the difficulties had disappeared and the sense of regained freedom was exciting.
Shortly after that, I started working again, and have since enjoyed a rewarding career with organizations that help people with vision problems.
28.What kind of life did the author live before his 33rd birthday
A.Hard but rewarding. B.Regular and boring.
C.Lonely but peaceful. D.Adventurous and happy.
29.How did the author probably feel after learning about his condition from the UK specialist
A.Shocked. B.Relaxed C.Regretful. D.Disappointed.
30.What changed the author’s attitude towards his life with blindness
A.The company of a guide dog.
B.A course in special education.
C.A talk with others having similar struggles.
D.A rewarding job helping other blind people.
31.What would be the best title for the text
A.Knowledge has no limit B.Losing sight doesn’t end my life
C.Regained freedom is more valuable D.Guide dogs help rebuild my confidence

Water poisoning is caused by too much consumption of water during a short period of time. Water in and of itself is not poisonous by any means, but rapid intake of a large quantity of water can break the careful balance of sodium(钠)in the body fluids(体液). This contributes to a swelling of the cells, often in the central nervous system, including the brain.
When the cells can no longer bear the pressure, they can begin to die. This is indicated in serious forms of water poisoning. Symptoms of this condition include vomiting, headache and unresponsiveness. When the sodium in the blood falls to dangerous levels, brain damage and possibly death may occur.
What is a fatal(致命的)amount of water can vary from person to person, depending on one’s state of health, his or her physical activity at the time, the temperature and the amount of time in which the person consumes the water. For some, a one-time consumption of three liters can prove deadly. Although the person consuming the water may lose a lot of fluid during heavy labor or exercise, the electrolytes(电解质)are not replaced fast enough to avoid water poisoning.
Those particularly at risk for water poisoning are athletes engaged in long distance running like a marathon. Due to the need to replace large quantities of lost fluid, runners must drink a lot of water. This can lead to poisoning, so runners must replace their fluids with sports drinks that have added electrolytes. Other factors that contribute to water poisoning include activities that stimulate heavy sweating. The person working under extreme heat or intense humidity(湿气)must be careful when consuming water in order to maintain electrolyte balance. Mental diseases can also lead to water poisoning. Psychogenic
polydipsia is a condition in which the affected person feels a need to drink a lot of water for unknown reasons.
32. What harm does water poisoning bring
A. It can affect brain function. B. It disturbs the balance of sodium.
C. It causes a drop in blood pressure. D. It tends to make its victims nervous.
33. What can we know about proper amount of water to drink
A. Three liters per day is deadly. B. No single rule fits everyone.
C. It doesn’t bother healthy people. D. Physical activity is its decisive factor.
34. Who would probably fall victim to water poisoning
A. A patient suffering from stomachache. B. A laborer working with heavy sweating.
C. An athlete fond of drinking sports drinks. D. A teenager doing appropriate exercise daily.
35. What might be discussed in the paragraph that follows
A. What has been found about sports drinks. B. What else contributes to water poisoning.
C. What are the symptoms of water poisoning. D. What can be done to avoid water poisoning.
第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。有两项为多余选项。
Apologizing for a mistake might seem difficult, but it will help you repair and improve your relationships with others after that offense (冒犯).
Acknowledge the offense. This is an essential element of a good apology. 36 Apologies are most likely to be well-received if you show that you recognize who was responsible and who was harmed. For example, saying “I made a mistake” is more effective than saying“mistakes were made”, which fails to clarify responsibility.
37 In some cases, it’s helpful to explain an offense, especially to explain that it was not intentional and that it will not happen again. But explanations that are long-winded, sound like excuses, or blame the victim (e. g. You were really getting on my nerves.) tend to have an opposite effect.
Express regret. 38 Expressing these feelings communicates that you recognize and regret the suffering you caused. Be careful of phrases like “That was uncharacteristic of me.” 39 Instead, acknowledge your disappointment in yourself and your commitment to improve.
Tell them how you’ll change. Let them know how you’ll change and what you’d do to make that possible. For instance, if you’ve been late once again, instead of just apologizing, share how you’d keep an early alarm to be on time! 40
A.Express your intention clearly. B.Provide a proper explanation. C.But many apologies don’t do this enough. D.When you hurt someone, it’s natural to feel shame or regret. E.A true apology is one where you promise it won’t be repeated again. F.This will enable you to know what means the most to the offended person. G.This might show that you aren’t taking full ownership for what happened.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I am not a gamer. I’ll be honest: video games and I don’t really see eye to eye, and I have no ambitions to become better. I never have the experience playing against my kids and winning. And that’s okay. Board games, on the other hand, are a different story. At least there, I stand a chance of victory.
One day, my 12-year-old son begged me to play a game with him. He held out a game controller and begged, “Just one game with me You can use it to control the game through your movements.” His eyes were full of anticipation and I could see the excitement welling up within him. How could I possibly resist such a sincere and heartfelt request “Just one game.” My son’s face lit up. In a matter of minutes, we were standing in our living room, virtually(虚拟)bowling away.
My son’s amusement at my lack of gaming skills was evident. 1 could see the struggle on his face as he fought to hold back his laughter. The game controller felt awkward and unfamiliar in my hand, but I did my best to copy my son' movements and follow his lead. At one point, my son said, “No, Mom. You really have to put some force into it. Like this.” With that, he threw his arm back, stepped forward, and with plenty of force extended out his arm that was holding the controller.
Instead of sending the virtual bowling ball flying, the controller went off his hand and broke the TV screen. The impact was immediate and destructive. The screen cracked (碎裂), sending a crazy mosaic (马赛克) of colors dancing across its surface. It looked like something straight out of a dream.
The air stood still at that moment. The look on my son’s face was a funny mixture of horror, disbelief, and guilt. He stayed absolutely frozen for a long moment. Then, slowly, he turned to me. “Mom…” with a weak smile, “Did I just...break the TV ”
注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Surprisingly, I wasn’t angry at all. But my son insisted on keeping the broken TV.2023-2024学年第二学期拉萨市高中期末联考

Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm so excited to hear that China Daily is in need of some volunteers to introduce Chinese culture overseas that I can’t wait to apply for the position.

W: Well there are some good hotels. (5 Carlton House is near the main square in the city center, but you might also be interested in the Royal Oak. It's in the countryside about ten kilometers away and very peaceful. Then there is the Bridge Hotel it's in town but not in the center. It is out on the airport road.
M: (Hmm... that might be a bit far actually. OK, now the one you mentioned in the city center. Can you tell me a bit about it
W: Well, it is quite unusual it used to be a large private house. It was bought by the Venice chain and they completely redecorated it. That's a five star hotel.
M: Does it have a swimming pool
W: No. The Royal Oak has an outdoor pool, which is lovely in summer, but the only hotel with an indoor pool is the Bridge Hotel.
M: I see. Well, I think I'll probably go for the city center.
