Step 1 Warming up
Look at the pictures and answer the question:
What are the festivals
Talk about the story of Dragon Boat Festival and watch a video.
Step 2 Pre-listening
Look at the sentences in 2a. Predict the conversation what talks about and answer the following questions:
Are Wu Ming boys or girls
Whose vacation are they talking about
Step 3 While-listening
Listen to the conversation between Wu Ming and Harry and circle the correct words in the sentences.(2a)
Wu Ming did a lot of fun activities, but there were also downsides. Listen again and fill in the chart.(2b)
Listen again and fill in the blanks.
Role-play conversations between Wu Ming and Harry. Use the information in 2a and 2b or make your own conversations.(2c)
E.g. A: What did you do on your vacation
B: I visited my cousins. I think that we ate five meals a day! I’ve put on five pounds!
A: I guess the food was delicious, right
Step 4 Post-listening
Watch a video and ask students do you know anything about Water Festival in Thailand .
Read the conversation and answer the following questions:
Why is Clara going to Chiang Mai in April
What do people do in Thailand during the Water Festival Why do they do that
Read again and fill in the blanks.
Play the recording and get students to listen and repeat, and the role play in groups.
Step 5 Summary
Let students find out the sentences about describing the festivals.
E.g. I visited …. The … was/ were …!
There’s a water festival there from April 13th to 15th.
This is the time of the Thai New Year. People go on the…
Step 6 Homework
Recite the conversation in 2d.
