Teaching content
This is a reading lesson, it mainly talks about the challenges of moving from middle school to high school.
Teaching objectives
Knowledge objectives
Students will understand the new words and phrases correctly, including freshman, recommend, graduate, quit, be fluent in, be responsible for, so that, get used to, whatever else, and so on.
Students will understand the content of the passage and learn more about the how to cope with the challenges.
b)Ability objective
Students will be able to use different basic reading strategies like prediction, skimming, scanning correctly in their reading process.
c)Emotional objectives
(1) Students can have a positive attitude towards the challenges in school life.
(2) Students can foster the interest and desire of learning English and be fond of taking part in kinds of class activities.
(3) Students can improve the confidence of learning English and be not afraid of speaking English in public.
(4) Students can cooperate with other group mates actively and complete the tasks together.

a) Key points
(1) Help students know the meaning and usage of the new words and phrases and sentence pattern.
(2) To understand the content of this lesson through listening.

(1) How to describe the new topic correctly and fluently.
(2) Help students to improve their comprehensive language skills and build confidence in learning English well.
IV. Major steps
Step 1 Lead-in (5mins)
At the beginning of the class,the teacher will show a video of school life and ask one question: “ What about your school life ”, then invite some volunteers to share their answers. After that, the teacher will give corresponding comments on students’ answers and show the topic of this lesson.
(Justification: The video is vivid and interesting, which can arouse students’ interest in the teaching activity. Meanwhile, it can also introduce the topic today naturally)
Step 2 Pre-reading (5mins)
New knowledge teaching
With the help of actions, the teacher will guide students to understand the meaning and usage of the new words and sentences, including freshman, recommend, graduate, quit, be fluent in, be responsible for, so that, get used to, whatever else, and so on.
Prediction
Ask students to read the title of the passage and predict what the passage will talk about.
(Justification: The new knowledge teaching can make students more easier to understand the passage. The prediction can exert students’ subjective ability, mobilize students’ desire to read and lay a good foundation for the following teaching process )
Step 3 While-reading (20mins)
Extensive reading
① Skimming
Students will have 2~3minutes to read the passage for the first time to check their prediction and find the main idea of each paragraph.

② Scanning
Students will read the passage again to locate certain information and answer the following questions:

Intensive reading
Students should read the passage for the third time and do the following tasks:

Several minutes will be given. When time’s up, several students will be invited to share their answers. Then the teacher will comment on students’ performance.
(Justification: This task can arouse students’ interest and involve the whole class.)
Step 5 Summary and homework(5mins)
Summary
Students should act as an assistant teacher to conclude what they have learned in this class, and then the teacher will make a summary together with students.
(Justification: Reviewing the important knowledge in this lesson can deepen students’ impression and form good study habits.)
Homework
Retell the passage after the class
Search the internet for more information about another country’s school life and share with others next class.
(Justification: Retelling can help students sort out the course content, and the task of collecting information can help students actively explore more knowledge and information.)
