At the end of the class, students should be able to: 1.understand the new words and expressions such as lantern, carnival, march, congratulations, riddle, dress up and so on. 2.grasp the general idea of the listening materials and learn more about both Chinese and foreign festivals. 3.improve listening abilities and grab the key information (verb phrases that depict festival activities) through listening. 4.share their preference festivals and explain why. 5.be interested in Chinese traditional festivals and know how to describe customs in English.

1.Key point: Help students to get the details of the materials and master some new words. 2.Difficult Points: Improve their listening abilities; Communicate with each other about Chinese traditional festivals in English.
Ⅵ. Teaching Procedures
Major Steps Activities Justifications
Lead-in (5 minutes) At the beginning of the class, the teacher will share some photos and experiences during National Holiday. And teacher will invite some students to share their national holiday with the class. Teacher gives corresponding comments to students’ answers and shows the topic for this lesson: Festivals and Celebrations. Before the lesson, through the natural communication with students, teacher can quickly make students immerse in the English class and exercise their speaking abilities.
Pre- listening (6 minutes) 1.Words and Expressions Teacher will show students three pictures and their introductions. There are some new words and expression. Students can guess their meanings through the contexts. And then, teacher will explain them one by one. 2.Background Information Before listening, teacher will guide students to match some pictures of different festivals and their corresponding introductions in order to make students know about these three festivals. Through above activities, students will be well prepared to listen and can understand the material better.
While-listening (20 minutes) 1.Extensive Listening Students will listen to the three conversations for the first time to grab the general ideas and order the pictures according to the listening materials. Through extensive listening, students will have a general understanding of conversations.
2.Intensive Listening (1)Students should listen to these three conversations for the second time and do the following tasks: 1)Listen and match the relationship between speakers in every conversation.
Before matching, teacher will give students some hints for listening for relationships. 2)Listen and try to fill in the blanks. (2)students will listen to the conversations for the third time and try to list each festival’s activities. Through above listening activities, students will not only understanding both the man idea and details of this listening material, but also improve their listening ability.
Post-listening (10 minutes) Group Discussion: There are so many traditional festivals in China. Students will work in groups to discuss which one your preference is. After the discussion, several students will be invited to give a short presentation. The teacher will make comments and then make a conclusion. This task can arouse students’ interest and involve the whole class. Also, by group discussion,they will be more confident to share their opinions using English in public.
Homework (4 minutes) Exchange opinions on the favorite festivals with at least two of your classmates. And please do a table about it. Example is as follows: This homework will exercise their oral English as well as enhance their abilities of cooperating with others.
