My husband and I always wanted to go to the Caribbean but didn’t know much about the islands or how we were going to afford it. By chance, a friend of ours in Australia mentioned “pet sitting” and that it is something you can do all over the world.
We quickly created an account on a pet sitting website and began searching for options. There were only a couple of sits available in that part of the world, but we tried our luck, sent a request, and to our surprise landed a three-month job in Grenada, so our year was going to be taken up with Cari- bbean pet sits.
Inspired by a Canadian couple, we decided to start our own travel blog. We began by writing about The Virgin Islands, highlighting the beautiful beaches. However, for every photo album of a beautiful beach, there were 10 photos of trash (垃圾).It was hard to ignore the plastic pollution issue, especially on such primitive and remote beaches. So, we began to share photos of the trash we saw and how much we could pick up on our daily dog walks.
The more we looked into plastic pollution, the more we realized the severity of the global plastic pollution. From that point, we used our platform to create awareness and highlight ways to say no to plastic and travel plastic-free. We changed our daily routines, our way of living, and even our diets to accommodate more organic foods and little to no plastic packaging.
It’s been over three years now and we continue to do what we can. This journey has led us to some amazing places, working with great brands and even organizing a country-wide beach clean-up campaign in Grenada. Our aim now is to keep on going. According to statistics, 358 bee species live in the Netherlands, but more than half of them are part of the Dutch red list -- a catalogue listing endangered species. To support the insects, the city of Utrecht Council, together with advertising agency Clear Channel, has transformed 316 bus stops across the city into “bee bus stops”. They are like ordinary bus shelters, but small gardens have been added to the roofs. The gardens are filled with grass and wildflowers chosen to attract bees.
The city authorities put the project out to tender (投标). In the tender, they outlined the
requirements and encouraged applicants to develop a nature-inclusive design that offers ecological benefits to the city. Finally, they signed an agreement with Clear Channel, who won the tender and set up 316 bus shelters. The project didn’t cost the city government anything. The operators are responsible for the upkeep of the stops citywide, using income from advertising.
The bus shelters have brought about great changes in the city. Green roofs catch fine dust, store rainwater and provide cooling in the heat. They also ensure biodiversity in the city. There are also 96 bus stops fitted out with LED lighting and bamboo benches. The base plate is also made from recycled concrete. The advantages of the bus stops have not gone unnoticed by the media. But what particularly has caught the media’s attention is that these eco-friendly shelters make people happy and enthusiastic, and encourage them to do something for nature.

Have you ever fancied a tennis lesson from one of the world’s greatest tennis players at your local court This dream came true for two young players, who got to train with 20-year-old superstar Emma Raducanu after she appeared as a hologram (全息图) --- a photographic recording of the image. While Sam Clague, 14, and T’nae Diamond Paisley, 12, were both in London, the British number one was in Abu Dhabi.
During the world’s first holographic lesson, Ms. Raducanu’s avatar ( 头 像 ) appeared to feed balls to the players and gave live feedback on their shots, like ‘that was fast and there was lots of top-spin on that’. Even Sam said he thought she had been prerecorded at first until she spoke with him directly.
Their holographic training session offers a glimpse into how advancing technology could revolutionize tennis coaching, according to Dr Ian Pearson.
Dr Pearson thinks that mixed reality headsets will soon allow tennis players to feel they are playing in unusual virtual environments, like on a space station or the middle of a lake. Through 5G, the future of tennis will see increased interaction between real-life tennis courts and the rich imagination we see in computer games --- playing whenever, wherever and whoever you want.
Full sensory virtual reality could even place the viewer inside the tennis player’s shoes in real time. Dr Pearson said, “By 2030, with active skin technology, the playing styles and even the sensations of top-level players could be captured so that anyone could experience how it actually felt to play that game through full sensory virtual reality.”
Finally, sportswear made from smart materials could allow for a digital coach powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to provide feedback on a player’s form. Dr Pearson said, “AI-controlled suits made from smart materials, such as fabrics with sensors, can help players find the perfect stroke when hitting or returning a serve by quickly learning the muscle memory of a flawless forehand. Using direct feedback from friendly virtual AI coaches, new players can develop and learn much more quickly.”
