教学过程 Lead-in: T: Hello, everyone. It’s time for our English class. We have explored English in Unit 2, but around the world, there are so many languages. Do you want to learn more about them Here we go. (10s-1min) T: Boys and girls, there are so many languages around the world, and we can’t understand many of them. When foreigners greet with us, how can we know whether they are friendly Through their expressions or body language Good idea! Although our languages are different, our friendliness and sincerity can be perceived through body language. T: Today, let’s learn more about how people around the world greet with others! Pre-reading: Prediction: T: First let’s look at the title of passage. Kiss, hug, or shake hands There are three ways of greeting. Can you guess which country they belong to Oh! Spanish people like to greet in the way of kissing and hugging. And we Chinese usually shake hands. Oh yes, British people shake hands too. Excellent! While-reading: Fast-reading: T: Now, everyone, please read the four parts of the passage quickly and check your predictions. After reading, please find out the way of greeting in each country. Let’s go! Brazil not very tactile, shake hands, hug, one kiss Great Britain hug and kiss on cheek Romania more conservative, nod heads, smile, shake hands Singaporean Chinese warm, Latin-American-like greetings, lots of kisses and hug T: Finished Let’s check together! We can see most of you have done a great job! Careful reading: Read and Compare T: Everyone. From the passage, we can learn that some country’s people are tactile, prefer the sense of touching, while others are not. Now, please read the passage again and sequence the people in different countries according to their greeting way. conservative tactile (Singaporean Chinese) (Great Britain) (Romania) (Brazil) T: Okay, stop here. Let’s check! Good job! Why do you sequence them in this order Oh. The frequency of kissing and hug is higher in Brazil than that in Roman. So the Brazil are most tactile. And why the British people are before Singaporean Chinese in the line Great! In formal situation, all of them just smile or shake hands with others. But British people will hug or make one kiss on the cheek in casual situation, while Singaporean Chinese will not. Post-reading: Thinking question: T: Everyone, this is all of the passage. After reading, we can know that maybe different countries have similar ways of greeting, they are not the same. But some countries also have their unique ways of greeting. Which one do you prefer Singaporean Chinese Why Yes, their greeting way is similar to ours. Actually, what behind different ways of greeting around the world is the diverse cultures. Here is question for you. What attitude should we hold toward different customs of greeting Great! We should respect admire and accept different cultures. The world is colorful due to such difference. All in all, the attitude we should hold is: “Harmony without uniformity, beauty with unity”,和而不同,美美与共。When we travel in different countries, just do as Romans do.
