I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. To learn some new words about food.
2. To learn how to talk about food you like and dislike.
3. To know ways of having a healthy diet.
II. Teaching contents
1. New words and phrases:
carrot, lemon, watermelon, beef, pork, hamburger, vitamin, protein, fat, sugar, calcium, oil ;
2. New structures:
-Do you like... It’s/ They’re my favourite.
-Yes, ...be rich in.... ...be good for...
/ - No,...have much.../There is much...in...
Too many...are bad for.../ Too much...is bad for...
An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
1. Know more vocabulary about food;
2. Talk about what food they like or dislike.

Step 1 学习理解 应用实践
Learn about vegetables and fruits
Presentation:
T: What is this / What are these
(Students learn some new words about vegetables and fruits by using the structure “It’s/They’re...” and notice that different nouns have different plural forms.)
Discussion:
T: Are vegetables and fruits healthy or unhealthy What nutrition do they have
(Students know the reason why vegetables and fruits are healthy by using the new word “vitamin ” and the structure “be rich in” and “be good at”.)
T:Do you like watermelons They’ re my favourite. If you like, you can say “Yes, they are rich in vitamins. They are good for my health.” If you don't like, you can say “No, I don’t like them.”
(Students learn how to talk about the vegetable and fruit they like or dislike.)
Practice :
A: Do you like …s/es … my favourite.
B: Yes, … are rich in ... ... good for my health. /No, I don’t like….
(Students work in pairs and talk about the vegetable and fruit they like or dislike.)
Learn about meat
Presentation:
T: What is this
(Students learn some new words about meat by using the structure “It’s...” and notice that they are uncountable nouns.)
Discussion:
T: Is meat healthy or unhealthy Why
(Students know the reason by using the new word “protein” and the structure “be rich in” and “be good at”.)
T: But can we eat too much meat Why
(Students know the reason by using the new word “fat” and the structure “...have much.../There is much...in... / Too much...is bad for...)
Practice :
A: Do you like... It’s my ...
B: Yes, ... is rich in ... ... health. / No, ...much fat... Too much ...is bad for ...
(Students work in pairs and talk about the meat they like or dislike.)
Learn about drinks
Presentation:
T: What is this
(Students learn some new words about drinks by using the structure “It’s...” and notice that they are uncountable nouns.)
Discussion:
T:Are drinks healthy or unhealthy?
What drink do you think is healthy or unhealthy?
(Students know the reason why some drinks are healthy and some drinks are unhealthy by using the new words“sugar/calcium” and the structure presented on the blackboard.)
Practice :
A: Do you like... ... my favourite.
B: Yes, ... rich... ... health. /No, ...much ... Too much...is...health.
(Students work in pairs and talk about the drink they like or dislike.)
Learn about other food
Presentation:
T: What are these
(Students learn some new words about drinks by using the structure “They’re...” and notice that they are countable nouns.)
Discussion:
T:Are sweets and hamburgers healthy or unhealthy?Why
(Students know the reason by using the new words“sugar/oil”and the structure “...have much.../There is much...in... / Too many...are bad for... )
Practice:
A: Do you like... ... my favourite.
B: Yes, ... / No, ...much... Too many...are...health.
(Students work in pairs and discuss why they like sweets or hamburgers.)

Welcome to the unit B
Listen and fill in the blanks
T: Millie and Daniel are also talking about food. What else does Millie and Daniel like What does Millie dislike Listen to the tape and fill in the blanks.
(Students finish the table.)
Discussion:
T:Whose diet is healthier Why
(Consolidation: Students can talk about the resons in a comprehensive way by using the structure presented on the blackboard. )
Step 3 学习理解 应用实践
Comic strip:
Listen and answer:
T: Here come our old friends Eddie and Hobo. They are also talking about something to eat. Listen to their dialogue and answer the questions below:
(1). What does Eddie want to eat at first (Eddie wants to have a hamburger.)
(2). What food does Hobo advise Eddie to eat Why (Apples. An apple a day keeps the doctor away! )
2. Read and act it out
T: Now please read the whole dialogue. Boys, you are Eddie. Girls, you are Hobo. And then it’s time for you to act out the dialogue between Hobo and Eddie. Try to use different tones an add your own actions to make the dialogue more interesting.
Step 4 迁移创新
What’s wrong with the woman Look at her three meals. What does she have for breakfast /lunch /supper Is her diet healthy
What food do you advise her to have for breakfast /lunch /supper Why
Tips: protein, fat , sugar, oil, vitamin, calcium, grain
(Pruduction: Students design three meals for the woman and know the importance of a healthy diet. )
Step 5 Conclusion
T:We should eat healthily and have a balanced diet. Just as the saying goes, “ You are what you eat.”
Step 6 Homework
Remember the useful words and sentences.
Design your three meals of the next week.
