Step 1 Lead-in Watch a short video and answer the following questions. （1）What is a coming of-age ceremony How do people celebrate in the video （2）Which celebration makes the greatest impression on you Why Introduce topics, stimulate students' interest, and cultivate students' understanding ability.
Step 2 Starting Out Listen and read the poem. Answer the questions. （1）What is the poem about （2）According to Kipling, what qualities does his son need to be a Man Share your ideas: Which of these qualities are most important to you as you grow up Guide students or readers to think about what it means to grow and become a person, and reflect on the qualities they seek and value as they grow up.
Step 3 Pre-reading Think about it：at what age are you allowed to do the following things in China？I am allowed to... Listen and predict what the text is mainly about？ Learn and master key words Understand the text and help students think about the changes and growth they experience at different ages.
Step 4 Global Reading Ask the students read the text and answer the questions below. The teacher explains the text content and reading skills. （1）find out the meaning of “the age of majority”. （2）Choose another suitable title for the passage and give your reasons. （3）Which of the following is FALSE according to Bethany （4）What does Bethany think of driving a car （5）Which of the following statements is NOT true about Lin Ning （6）Why does Morgan want to live with his parents Guide students to deeply understand the content of the text, and exercise their reading comprehension ability, critical thinking and language organization ability.
Step 5 Post-Reading Organise information from the passage and complete the table. Read the sentences from the passage and decide if they are facts (F) or opinions (O). Now look for more opinions in the passage and talk about whether you agree with them. Discuss it in your group. Promote communication and cooperation among students, let students have a deep understanding of the text content, exercise their oral expression skills and critical thinking.
Step 6 Exercises Translate sentences according to the text Improve students' translation skills.
Homework Tell your partner what you think it means to be a responsible adult, using the language you have learnt in the passage to express your ideas clearly. By using the language learned in the text, students can practice and strengthen their language skills.
课堂总结 Through this course, students are able to improve their reading comprehension, gain a deeper understanding of adult life, and learn to take responsibility for themselves.
