By the end of this class, students will be able to: know the reasons why people want to write poems;. explore the characteristics of different forms of poem learn to appreciate these poems from the aspect of theme, literary devices ,emotion etc..
教学内容
教学重点: Explore the characteristics of different forms of poems and learn to appreciate English poems of different forms.
教学难点: How to guide students to appreciate English poems of different forms.
教学过程
Step 1. Lead in The teacher has students see the picture and think about what comes to their mind. The first picture represents 《静夜思》,and the second picture represents The Road Not Taken. Step 2 Prediction Have students recall what questions their Chinese teacher will ask when appreciating a poem and introduce today’s topic. Possible answer: 1.What is the background of the poem 2.What is the type of the poem 3.What are the characteristics of the poem 4. What is the theme of the poem 5. What literary devices are used in the poem 6. What emotion does the poem convey ...... Step 3: While reading Task 1 Fast reading The teacher has students find out the different forms of English poems. Task 2 Analysis The teacher ask students to read para.2 and Poem A carefully and find out the features of Nursery rhymes and the literary devices and the theme of the poem. Type: Nursery rhymes Characteristics:may not make sense & even contradictory; easy to learn and recite Literary devices:rhymes; repetition; rhythm The teacher summarize all these elements into two sentences, like: It is a Nursery rhymes(type), which may not make sense and even contradictory (characteristic). The theme of the poem is father’s love . It uses rhymes,repetition, rhythm (literary device) to show father’s love for his baby(feeling). Have students read the sentences together. Task 3 Pair-work: Ask students work in pairs and appreciate one of the poems below by filling the blanks. (Imitation) It is a ______ (type), which is/has _________(characteristic). The theme of the poem is _______. It uses ___________(literary device) to show _________(feeling). Invite students to share their answers one group by one group. Task 4 Reason Have students summarize why people write poems. If they have difficulty in thinking about the reasons comprehensively, the teacher can imply students to read para 1. Step 5 Post reading Task 5: Create a poem Have students choose one of the forms and create their own poem. Step 6 Homework 1.Polish your poems and prepare for a poem exhibition! 2.
