Teaching procedure
Step 1:Warming-up(5 minutes)
Warming up by enjoying a video about Charity Day in China and Pay It Forward Day in the West
and talk freely about how to show kindness to others( whole class work)
Good morning, class. Today we will talk about the topic....Firstly, let us enjoy a video and then tell me how to show kindness to others.
A touching and inspiring video. Class, tell me together how to show kindness to others. Yes, ....
You know clearly the ways to help others with small kind acts.
T:But suppose you were a driver, would you drive an old woman around the city for hours without charge I suppose we would hesitate about doing so for various reasons. After reading the warm story, I am sure that you will get a definite answer. "The ....". Before reading, I advise you to predict what the passage will tell us. Teaching Objectives:

(2) Students can identify the type of biography.
(3) Students will use the skills of reading, especially the skill of drawing conclusions.
(4) Students can examine their life choices, especially the choices concerning morals and virtues.
(5) Students can develop critical thinking and the spirit of cooperation.

How to draw a conclusion of a passage.

Teaching procedure:
Step 1: Before reading (5 minutes)
Activity 1: Lead-in
1. Present a video about making choices before class to make students excited and elicit the topic and prepare for the reading part.
2. Have a free talk. Show some photos of Lin Qiaozhi and have a small talk with the classmates.

Step 2: While--Reading (15 minutes)
Activity 3 : Read for the the structure of the text.
1.Skim to find out the main idea of the passage.
It mainly talks about Lin Qiaozhi’s choices and contributions.
2. Show the features of a biography: a biography is written by someone else.

1.Guess the meaning of “carried through”.

Read Para2-6 and underline all her choices
1.Students read again and underline all the choices in Dr Lin’s life.
2.Students are asked to share answers to the five choices and talk about the sentences leading them to draw conclusions. During it, Teacher asks Students to answer the following questions:

2.Finish the chart in groups of four.

Step Five: Post Reading (5 minutes)
Activity 6:Critical thinking “ What kind of person do you think Dr Lin was ”
1.Students brainstorm some adjectives to describe Dr Lin in groups of four.
2.Students are supposed to read the text again and think “ What kind of person do you think Dr Lin was ”
3.Show the tips of drawing conclusion.
Reading strategy: make a conclusion (pay attention to facts and details mentioned to draw conclusions about the topic)“
4.Teacher provides some useful patterns to Students:
Eg:From the sentence “I ‘d rather stay single to study all my life”, I think that she is determined and passionate for study..
5. Student represent Dr Lin’s good virtues by evidence
Activity 7: Appreciate the following sentences and think:
