German artist HA Schult is an unusual artist who uses trash(废物) to make sculptures. "We are living in the time of garbage," says Schult. "I created a thousand sculptures of garbage. They are a mirror of ourselves." Here, Schult was talking about his 1,000 trash sculptures in the form of humans. He first exhibited them in 1996 in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
"They are social sculptures," he explains. "They are not only sculptures for the eyes. They are sculptures to spread the idea that we live in the time of garbage." So far, Schult's social sculptures have been on show in Paris, in Moscow's Red Square, on the Great Wall of China, and in the desert next to the Pyramids of Giza near Cairo.
HA Schult's work is unforgettable. Although his work has had a big influence on the art world, Schult remains modest about his creations. "Artists have to learn every time. We are not important. All that counts is the time in which we are living."
Trash art has been around for years. But it seems that only the popular artists are regarded as true artists when working with trash. Why can't common people be considered artists when they use the same things and change them into some form of personal art Maybe it's because we all have our own preset ideas of what art is and isn't, or whom artists are or should be.
You can be an artist like Schult if you try. Look at used metal cans. What might be done with them Imagine them in any number of new uses, or imagine them simply as an art form. What about boxes or clothing Boxes can usually serve as new storage containers and houses for pets. And clothing Imagine taking old clothes and turning them into hats or hanging organisers.
24.What do we know about Schult's sculptures
A.They served as garbage containers.
B.They reflected environmental issues.
C.They were first shown in Paris, France.
D.They were to raise economic awareness.
25.What do HA Schult's artistic works convey to us
A.An artist must be socially responsible.
B.An artist must be as modest as possible.
C.An artist must make garbage recyclable.
D.An artist must take diverse artistic forms.
26.What does the author probably agree according to the last two paragraphs
A.It takes talent to be a trash artist.
B.Preset ideas are important to artists.
C.Trash art can't be seen as a real art form.
D.Average people can also be trash artists.
27.What is a suitable title for the text
A.What Are Social Sculptures
B.Could You Be a Trash Artist
C.Do You Know About Trash Art
D.How Can We Deal with Used Cans

根据第一段中的"‘We are living in the time of garbage,' says Schult. ‘I created a thousand sculptures of garbage. They are a mirror of ourselve.'"Schult说:"我们生活在垃圾时代。"。"我创作了一千个垃圾雕塑。它们是我们自己的一面镜子。"可知,Schult的雕塑使用的是垃圾,这反映了我们这个时代是垃圾时代,环境问题应该引起重视。故选B。
25.考查推理判断。根据第二段中的"‘They are social sculptures,' he explains. ‘They are not only sculptures for the eyes. They are sculptures to spread the idea that we live in a time of garbage.'""它们是社会雕塑,"他解释道。"它们不仅仅是眼睛的雕塑。它们是传播我们生活在垃圾时代的观念的雕塑。"可知,真正的艺术家要有社会责任感,通过艺术来反映社会问题,引起人们的重视。故选A。
Maybe it's because we all have our own preset ideas of what art is and isn't, or who artists are or should be." You can be an artist like Schult if you try."
Could You Be a Trash Artist "既概括了文章内容又能吸引读者,适合作为文章标题。
No poem should ever be discussed or analysed, until it has been read aloud by someone, teachers or students. Better still, perhaps, is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end.
All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally, the most telling "interpretation(解释)" of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on films, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching cannot replace the student and the teacher reading it or, best of all, reciting it.
I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than analysing it, if there isn't time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is a criticism of life, and a heightening(提升) of life. It is an approach to the truth of feeling, and it can save your life. It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies.
I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. Those who don't like it should not be forced to put that dislike on anyone else. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.
28.What should we do if we want to have a better understanding of a poem
A.Analyse it by oneself. B.Discuss it with others.
C.Practise reading it aloud. D.Copy it down in a notebook.
29.What might be the best way for a teacher to teach poetry
A.To have students recite a poem.
B.To explain a poem again and again.
C.To have students watch films of a poem.
D.To have students listen to records of a poem.
30.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a function of poetry
A.Criticising life. B.Saving life.
C.Heightening life. D.Extending life.
31.What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 imply
A.Poetry is more important than any other subject.
B.Attention should be paid to the teaching of poetry.
C.Poetry is the foundation of language and literature.
D.One cannot enjoy life fully without understanding poetry.
【答案】28.C
29.A
30.D
31.B
All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally, the most telling ‘interpretation (解释)' of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once."
I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than analysing it, if there isn't time for both. "事实上,我开始认为,如果没有时间,花时间大声朗读一首诗比分析它重要得多。故选A。
Poetry is a criticism of life, and a heightening(提升) of life. It is an approach to the truth of feeling, and it can save your life"诗是人生的批判,是人生的升华。
It also deserves a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it presently occupies."
In the atmosphere, carbon dioxide allows the sun's rays to enter but prevents the heat from escaping. According to a weather expert's prediction, the atmosphere will be warmer in the year 2050 than it is today, if man continues to burn fuels at the present rate. If this warming took place, the ice caps in the poles would begin to melt, thus raising sea level several metres and severely flooding coastal cities. Also, the increase in atmospheric temperature would lead to great changes in the climate of the northern hemisphere.
In the past, concern about man-made warming of Earth has concentrated on the Arctic because the Antarctic is much colder and has a much thicker ice sheet. But the weather experts are now paying more attention to West Antarctic, which may be affected by only a few degrees of warming, in other words, by warming on the scale that will possibly take place in the next fifty years from the burning of fuels. Satellite pictures show that large areas of Antarctic ice are already disappearing. The evidence suggests that warming has taken place. This fits the theory that carbon dioxide warms Earth.
However, most of the fuel is burnt in the northern part of Earth, where temperatures seem to be falling. Scientists conclude, therefore, that up to now natural influences on the weather have exceeded those caused by man. The question is: Which natural cause has the most effect on the weather
One possibility is the behaviour of the sun. Astronomers at one research station have studied the hot spots and "cold" spots, that is, the relatively less hot spots, on the sun. This seems to have a greater effect on the distribution of Earth's atmospheric pressure, and consequently on wind circulation. The sun is also variable(可变的) over a long term. Its heat output goes up and down in cycles. The latest downwards trend is on the way. But that is only an imagination.
32.Which of the following is TRUE about the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
A.It would prevent the sun's rays from reaching Earth's surface.
B.It would mean warming in the Arctic.
C.It would raise the temperature of Earth's surface.
D.It would account for great changes in the climate.
33.What is the purpose of the text
A.To explain the greenhouse effects.
B.To explain the solar effects on Earth.
C.To explain the solar weather.
D.To explain the causes affecting the weather.
34.What can we learn from the text
A.The activity of the sun affects the weather on Earth.
B.The melting ice caps in the poles can bring us enough fresh water.
C.Earth's climate can lead to the temperature's becoming lower.
D.The rising carbon dioxide makes Earth cool.
35.What can we learn about the influences on the weather
A.Wind circulation's influence is bigger.
B.Natural influence is bigger.
C.Atmosphere pressure's influence is bigger.
D.Man's influence is bigger.
【答案】32.C
33.D
34.A
35.B
In the atmosphere, carbon dioxide allows the sun's rays to enter but prevents the heat from escaping. "在大气中,二氧化碳允许太阳光线进入,但阻止热量逸出。可推知二氧化碳会提高地球表面的温度。故选C。
33.考查推理判断。根据第三段中的"Which natural cause has most effect on the weather "哪一种自然因素对天气影响最大 可知,本文介绍了二氧化碳对全球气候的影响和太阳能量的输出活动对气候的影响,分析全球变暖的真正原因,因此全文的写作主旨一直在探讨全球变暖的原因, 故选D。
One possibility is the behaviour of the sun. Astronomers at one research station have studied the hot spots and ‘cold' spots, that is, the relatively less hot spots, on the sun. This seems to have a greater effect on the distribution of Earth's atmospheric pressure, and consequently on wind circulation. The sun is also variable(可变的) over a long term. Its heat output goes up and down in cycles. The latest downwards trend is on the way. But that is only an imagination. "一种可能性是太阳的行为。一个研究站的天文学家研究了太阳上的热点和"冷"点,即相对较少的热点。这似乎对地球大气压力的分布有更大的影响,从而对风循环也有更大影响。太阳在长期内也是可变的。它的热输出以循环的方式上升和下降。最新的下降趋势即将到来。但这只是一种想象。可知太阳的活动影响着地球上的天气。故选A。
Scientists conclude, therefore, that up to now natural influences on the weather have exceeded those caused by man."

From my point of view, we should raise the public awareness of the importance of going green. And taking public transportation or riding bicycles instead of driving should be greatly encouraged. What's more, it's a good idea to classify our rubbish and recycle it in our daily life.

One evening, a workman was exhaustedly making his way home after work, when he stopped to rest by the side of the road. A woman came by, pushing a cart full of flowers. The smell of her blossoms filled the air with sweetness and it seemed to take away the tiredness in his bones and lift his spirits. He had never experienced such wonder from the many blooms of his own garden. "How much must I pay, or what must I do, to have some of your wonderful flowers " he asked the woman.
"Oh, sir," she said, "take what you wish for."
"What return must I make for them " he asked again.
"Your gratitude is enough," she said, "and it's a pleasure to share the beauty of flowers with you."
So the man filled his arms with blossoms and hurried joyfully home. His wife and his children were also glad over the remarkable flowers, for they, too, discovered that the sight of them was a delight and the smell of them refreshed the soul.
In order not to lose his valuable possession, the man planted the blossoms in a small plot of land behind his house. Sunlight and water kept them amazingly beautiful—they still performed their fantastic magic.
Every day, his children took delight in playing in the yard and always sang and danced around the flowers. They all liked the lovely gift their father had received and even invited many of their friends to share this fantastic magic together. When children came to play near the flowers, the man over and over warned them against carelessness and wild play for fear that they would walk on the flowers and damage them. But the flowers remained strong as long as there was enough sun and water to nourish(滋养) them. Nowhere else could the man or his wife or children find such remarkable relaxation from tiredness, such comfort in sadness, such spiritual nourishment as those remarkable flowers provided.
With the news spreading and more people coming to appreciate his treasure, the man became even more concerned about his remarkable flowers.
注意:
1)续写词数应为150左右;
He was determined to protect the flowers.
However, the flowers seemed to fade day by day, so the man went everywhere for help.
So he built a high wall around them. Not feeling satisfied, he even set up rules as to who could enter the garden, how they must enter, and what they must follow while they were there. As a result, children were forbidden to enter and appreciate the flowers as before. For his part, he continued to make sure that his treasure received enough sunlight and water so that the flowers continued to perform their wonderful magic.
He visited every expert, only to find his efforts in vain. He felt on pins and needles, seeing his beloved flowers dying. One evening, he was wandering in the street aimlessly when he suddenly noticed the flower woman on the same spot where he had met her, giving away her amazing flowers. It finally hit him that the flowers are gifts instead of possessions and that only by sharing can the magic remain and last.
