教 材 分 析 课文以“描述自然灾害”(Describe a natural disaster)为主题，要求学生通过阅读文章，了解20世纪70年代发生在唐山的大地震，了解地震前的征兆，地震的破坏性以及国家，政府和人们是如何进行灾后重建的。作者通过写实的文字，按震前、震中、震后的写作顺序向读者描述了唐山大地震这场灾难，让学生对地震的相关知识有了进一步认识并帮助学生树立了正确的情感态度去面对自然灾害，让学生了解到“灾害无情，人有情”的思想感情。
学 情 分 析 授课班级的学生英语基础普遍较差，词汇量少，阅读速度较慢。但通过几个学期的英语学习，已经掌握了一定的阅读技巧，可以通过关键词，段首句，快读和略读等方式快速地了解文章中心思想并找出相应问题的答案。更重要的是，一些学生可以根据教师的提示用英语对地震进行描述。
教 学 目 标 1、通过阅读巩固之前学习的新词汇。 2、获取一些与地震相关的知识和防范措施。 3、了解描述自然灾害的纪实性报告文学语篇的语言特征和文本结构。 4、学会运用所学知识用英语对地震进行描述。 5、树立防灾意识和自我保护意识。

课 前 准 备 让学生熟读本单元的单词。 查找与地震相关的知识，并记录下来。 认真备课，写教案，制作课件。
教 学 方 法 采用任务型教学法，布置活动任务，设置活动目的，引导学生完成相关任务，达成各教学步骤设计目的。 英语情景教学法，通过创设语境，让学生用英语表达自己的观点。
教 学 过 程 Step1 Lead in Activity 1: Ss watch a video about Tangshan Earthquake and answer the question. 1.What happened to the city in the video 2. Ss read the passage to know more about the earthquake. 设计意图：回顾上节课的内容，激活关于自然灾害和地震的背景知识。 Step 2 Pre-reading Activity 2: Students look at the title and photo of the passage, and guess what the text is about. What does the passage mainly talk about The passage mainly talks about an __________ （what）that happened in __________（where）on July 28, _____.（when） 设计意图：通过标题和图片预测文章内容是一种重要的阅读技能，引导学生在日常学习中着重培养。 Step 3 While-reading Activity 3: Fast reading Students read the text quickly to find the topic sentences of each paragraph. P1:Strange things were happening in the countryside of northeast Hebei. P2:Everything began to shake. It seemed as if the world was at an end. P3:Everywhere they looked nearly everything was destroyed. P4:All hope was not lost. Students divide the text into three parts. Part1：P1 during the earthquake Part2：P2-P3 after the earthquake Part3：P4 before the earthquake Activity 4: Careful reading Students read the text carefully to find the right answers to fill in the blank. 设计意图：通过快读了解文章的中心思想，并通过略读找出阅读答案进一步了解文章。 Step 4 Post-reading Activity 5: Thinking Discuss the questions in groups and choose two students to share their ideas. Q: How to help the sufferers If I was on the spot(在现场)，I would... If I was not on the spot, I would ... 设计意图：通过创设语境，让学生用所学新知识用英语表达自己的观点，以巩固新知识并提高学生的口语能力。 Step 5 Homework Recite the new words.

教 学 反 思 部分学生能根据教师的提示用英语对地震进行描述。 学生能够根据教师的提示找出每段的中心句。 学生能通过关键词找出细读的答案。 多数学生掌握了相关的阅读技巧。 教学效果比较好，但是最后的思考部分，由于教师没有词汇和句型提示，学生的表达相对单一，需进行整改。
