Suppose you write the sentence: I must run or I'll miss the last bus. You are not fully satisfied with it because the word "run" is not enough to describe how rushed you feel. But where can you find a more suitable word
In a situation like this, you might need a thesaurus(同义词词典). It can help you find the most suitable word to express your ideas. As for the sentence above, "fly" might be a better choice than "run": I must fly or I'll miss the last bus. With the help of a thesaurus, you can easily improve your writing.
However, you must be careful when you are using a thesaurus. Only a few words are freely interchangeable(可交换的). Take the word "good" as an example. If you look up "good " in a thesaurus, you will get words like "superb" and "acceptable". However, "a good meal" is different from "a superb meal " or "an acceptable meal". "A superb meal" is far better than you would have expected. "An acceptable meal " is not bad, but it's not good enough. Just as Mark Twain once said, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug(萤火虫) ." You'd better have an English dictionary on hand whenever you are using a thesaurus. Carefully study a word before you use it in your writing.
It will be easier to understand your point if you use a wide variety of words. It will make your writing more interesting. It will also help you communicate with your audience more clearly. As long as you use it properly, a thesaurus can be a great tool.
( ) 21.The word "fly" in the sentence "I must fly or I'll miss the last bus" most probably means "______".
A.to move or go very quickly B.to move with the help of wings C.to travel in a plane
( ) 22.Mark Twain's words in Paragraph 3 are used to support the idea that ______.
A.only a few words are freely interchangeable
B.some words are funnier than other words
C.many English words have double meanings
( ) 23.Before we use a word in a thesaurus, the writer suggests that we should ______.
A.find out its Chinese meaning B.look it up in an English dictionary
C.ask our English teachers for help
( ) 24.What would be the best title for the passage
A.How to improve your writing B.Different words, same meaning C.A thesaurus, a great tool

Nowadays, to deal with climate change(气候变化), one way discussed widely is carbon capture(碳捕获). It refers to the technology that can cut down CO2 in the air.
Carbon capture technology is used to collect CO2 that is given off by factories. For example, it can be fitted to coal-burning power stations and factories to capture the CO2 before it is given off. The captured CO2 can then be liquefied(使液化) and stored underground. Besides, the technology can also be used to collect the CO2 that has already gone into the air.
Then how can we deal with the CO2 we capture Proper use is truly important. It can not only help create markets for this new technology, but also make it cheaper for companies to use. At present, CO2 is used in greenhouses to grow vegetables. CO2 can even be used to make useful products, such as plastics, building materials, and paints.
Carbon capture is considered to be a lot of help. However, there are many problems on the way. There's 50 billion tons of CO2 going out to the air from cars and factories every year. But even a great number of carbon capture machines now can capture only a few tons of it. The thickness of CO2 in the open air is much less than that in the power stations or factories, making it much less efficient(效率高的) to capture CO2. Because of this, the cost of using carbon capture machines can be very high today. So, it's hard to make a real difference in fighting climate change now. But it will be improved quickly and will become cheaper and more efficient.

In my opinion, cooperative learning helps students learn new things better and makes our school life more colorful.
Last term, we had a group project about Chinese culture. I was in a group with three other students. At first, I didn't want to cooperate with them. But soon I found that they were very helpful. They had different ideas and skills that I did not have. Finally, we worked together and each did our part well. We also learned from each other and improved our abilities.
Through this experience, I learned that many hands make light work. Cooperative learning can not only help us to learn with fun, but also develop our communication skills. I hope more students can enjoy cooperative learning.
