Lead in 1.Review: Ask students to review the definition and function of attributive. 2.Read and underline: Ask students to read the sentences in activity 1 of p52 and underline the restrictive relative clauses.
Presentation and practice 1.Think and answer: What function do the underlined sentences have What's the name of such sentences 2.Explain: Explain the definition of this grammar and ask students to take notes,then summarize the structure of such grammar and explain main concepts. 1)定语从句:在主从复合句中做定语,修饰名词、代词等的从句,其作用相 当于形容词。 2)结构:先行词+关系词(关系代词或关系副词)+剩余部分 先行词:被定语从句修饰的名词、代词等称为先行词,一般出现在定语从句 之前,有时先行词是整个主句。 关系词:引导定语从句的词被称为关系词,可分为关系代词与关系副词。 3.Practice: Underline the restrictive attributive clause of each sentence,then circle antecedents and relative words. 1)There were deep cracks that appeared in the well walls. 2)The nurse is a kind person that my great-grandma cannot forget. 3)The supplies which were provided to the disaster area were collected from around the country 4)He never got back the money which he had lent him. 5)Two thirds of the people who lived there were dead or injured.6)He is the person who the soldier saved 7)Workers built shelters for survivors whose homes had been destroyed.8)We live in a house whose windows open to the south. 9)A doctor with whom James used to work died in the 2016 earthquake in Ecuador. 4.Summarize and fill in the blanks: Ask students to read these restrictive relative clauses again and fill in the blanks.
