教材分析
As the project part,the last but one part of one unit,is intended for language application and oriented towards specific tasks,students are supposed to analyze and solve problems,and develop their language competence,cultural awareness,thinking skills and learning competence,especially their hands-on and creative abilities. Therefore,this class is designed for students to finish a project in a group,based on what they have learned in this unit.In the project part of unit 4,students are asked to report on people who persevere.The previous parts of this unit are about the stories on what adversities the crew on“Endurance”faced when the ship was crushed in the Antarctic,how them overcame the difficulties and persisted,and how they survived in the end.Besides,the workbook of this unit introduces students the excerpt of the story —The Old Man and Sea,and an introduction to Fan Zhongyan,who was also known for his perseverance and ambition.All of them provide a solid foundation for the project.
学情分析
Students have learned the story of“Endurance”,been inspired by the crew's spirits and also mastered some words and expressions of this unit.Plus,in previous units,they have learned some reading passages about great people and accumulated some expressions to describe a person.Therefore,they are familiar with the topic and relatively well-prepared for this class.But according to their performance in English class,some of them still lack the spirits of cooperation and do not know how to write a persevering person precisely.So based on the real set-up project,this class is intended to teach students how to write a report on people who persevere,complete the project as a group and help them reflect on their own character,thus improving their writing skills and strengthening their bond.

2.learnhow to make a good report,
3.grasp how to polish a report on a person;
4.reflect on their own character.

教学重点： 1.Ss make an outline by sorting out the information ofa persevering person. 2.Ss know how to make a good report on people who persevere,based on a well-organized structure and authentic language. 3.Ss evaluate their reports and polish them according to the evaluation form.4. 教学难点： 1.Ss write a report that is informative,well-organized and impressive. 2.Ss reflect on their own qualities after reporting these persevering people.
教学过程
Activity 1 Setting up the project Introduce Ss to a real project and invite them to finish it as a group. The project is:the Youth Column of English Weekly in our school,themed “Adversity &Courage”next week,is collecting three reports on people who persevere.You're going to contribute to it as a group. Activity 2 Revision Lead Ss to recall the persevering people they've learned in this unit,askthem who impresses them mostand explain the reason. 2.Show one student's outline,ask another student to make some comments on it and give Ss the first tip on how to make a good report. Tip 1:A detailedoutline can make a report informative. Activity 6 Learn to make a good report 1.Lead Ss to work out the structure of the report:an introduction,a body and a conclusion,and get Ss to know how to develop each part in detail. 2.Ask Ss to recall some learned useful expressions they may use when writing the report and give them the second tip on how to make a good report. Tip 2:Authentic language makes it impressive.
3.Guide Ss to observe the layout of the report on Fan Zhongyan from the workbook to figure out how to make a report on a persevering person eye-catching. Tip 3:Pictures,quotations and a reasonable layout can make it eye-catching. Activity 7 Write out your report Ask Ss to write down the report about the person you've researched based on the outlines and remind them of the three tips introduced in this class. Activity 8 Evaluate and polish your report (Group work)Ask Ss to take turns to report their writing to the group members, and while listening,evaluate the report based on the following table. Activity 9 Show Time &Assessment Invite one student to report his/her writing on a persevering person and ask another S to assess it according to the evaluation form. Activity 10 Summary Lead Ss to have a brief summary ofthe whole class,in order that they can have a glimpse of how to make a good report on people who persevere. Activity 11 Homework 1.Please choose three reports in your group,have them polished and beautified, and then contribute them to English Weekly. 2.Read a biography or an autobiography of a person whose life is inspiring,and share it with your classmates.(Optional) Activity 12 Epilogue
1.End the class with Samuel Johnson's famous saying from the opening page of this unit:Great works are performed not by strength,but perseverance. 2.Inspire Ss to reflect on their own character and call on them to be courageous and tough to tackle any adversities in the daily life,so that they can make a big difference.

Relatively speaking,this class is a success.The learning objectives have been achieved.The design is logical and the teaching procedures are reasonable and clear However,it can be improved in the following aspects: First,the tasks assigned before the class could be more specific.For example, when collecting information of persevering people,students could be also asked to gather some pictures of the person or the images of their achievements,so that their products in this class would be more appealing.

Second,the time is limited.More time given,instead of being asked to complete the project task after class,the students could have finished the project in class:to put the three reports together and design the layout,so that they could have contributed them to English Weekly at the end of the class.Thus,two lessons would work better. Third,in the group work part,the task could be improved,which can be further designed like this:every student can play a specific role—a reporter,a sentence discoverer,a structure analyzer,a suggestion raiser,a recorder and an evaluator.In this way,every group member is clear about what he/she is supposed to do.
