After this class,students should be able to: 1.work in groups to make a multiple-choice questionnaire on their classmates'physical and mental health. 2.analyze the questionnaire results through visualization tools 3.write a report stating their survey results and conclusions and giving advice on overcoming those lifestyle problems. 4.increase awareness of healthy lifestyles and acquire ways of living healthily

教学重点: 1.Guide students to make a multiple-choice questionnaire. 2.Teach students how to use visualization tools to analyze survey results. 3.Teach students to write a research report. 教学难点: 1.Students design multiple-choice questions for their questionnaire.
教学过程
Step 1 Launch the project Situation:Your school newspaper has set up a special column for teenager health.As journalists for the newspaper,you are going to carry out a survey on your classmates'physical and mental health,and then write a report based on your survey results. (Purpose:to inspire students'interest in doing the survey by providing students with a real situation and giving clear instructions.) Step 2 Design a multiple-choice questionnaire Activity 1 Narrow down the topic of your survey
Students list specific aspects of physical and mental health,such as diet.Then each group chooses one issue that they are most interested in. (Purpose:to help studentsfind afocusfor their survey.) Activity 2 Define survey goals Ask students what specifically they want to find out.Then the teacher gives an example to help students understand it better. eg.Diet whether your classmates'eating habits are healthy or not; ifnot,what are the causes for these unhealthy habits. (Purpose:to guide students to set a clear and definite goalfor their survey.) Activity 3 Design multiple-choice questions The teacher gives directions in designing questions: use multiple-choice questions ● directed toward survey goals Take“diet”as an example. Question 1:What are the eating habits that affect their physical health eg.skipping meals,eatingjunk foods and drinks,eating too much snacks,eating little fruits and vegetables... Based on this,students can ask questions like: EXAMPLE How often do you skip meals A.never B.once a day C.no more than three times a week D.others: Question 2:What are the possible causes behind these habits eg.lack oftime,to lose weight,no desire forfood... Based on this,students can ask questions like: EXAMPLE You skip meals mainly because: A.you don't have enough time B.you want to lose weight C.you have no desire for food D.others: Purpose:to guide student on making an effective questionnaire using a chain ofcore questions,and to set an examplefor them.) Step3 Distribute and collect questionnaires Activity 4 Groups distribute either paper questionnaires or e-questionnaires among classmates. (Purpose:to provide students with different means ofdistributing questionnaires and seek the aid oftechnology ifnecessary.)

(Purpose:to provide useful visualization tools to support the accurate and clear analysis of survey results.) Activity 6 Each group analyzes their data with the aid ofvisualization tools (Purpose:to help students practice using efficient methods ofanalyzing data,and to pave wayfor the next activity ofwriting a report.) Step 5 Write a survey report Activity 7 Students read a sample article ofa survey report.
The teacher guides students to think about the main contents in the report and study the language feature.
(Purpose:to show students an example ofsurvey report to help them grasp the main contents and languagefeatures.)
Activity 8 Students reflect on what to cover in the report. a.give an objective statement ofthe survey results;
b.present conclusions you draw from the results;
c.recommend effective solutions to existing lifestyle problems.
(Purpose:to summarize the guidelines on the composing sessions ofa survey report.)
Step 6 Summarize the lesson
Review the teaching focus of this lesson.
to follow three steps to make a questionnaire; to use charts to analyse survey results;
to include three parts to write a survey report and adopt proper language features
Homework
1.Work in groups to complete your multiple-choice questionnaire;
2.Write a survey report after analyzing your survey results.3.Use the criteria to assess your project.
Students assess their own performance in the project.The teacher can provide assistance if necessary.
