教学目标
In this class,you will 1.know and experience some types of body language; 2.practice listening and learn to infer meaning from conversation.
教学内容
教学重点: 1.Listen and understand the conversation. 2.Making inferences. 教学难点: Activate students to experience the body language and to understand the listening.
教学过程
Step 1 Review 1.Guide students to review the knowledge of previous lesson,by asking questions“What is body language ”and“How to use body language appropriately ”,then show and explain the knowledge by blank filling together. ①Body language is a kind of .It includes ,and and so on.People use it to help express themselves ②Body language needs to be used in a way that is appropriate to the you are in Answer: ①non-verbal language;eye-contact;gestures;postures;facial expressions ②culture 2.Provide examples from previous lesson to help students better understand why body language needs to be used in a way that is appropriate to the culture you are in. Examples:
①OK sign:In Japan,it means money.However,in France,it means zero.
②Gesture“Yes”and “No”:In China,nodding head means YES while shaking head means NO.But in Bulgaria,nodding head means NO while shaking head means YES.
Step 2 Activity One
1.Guide students to experience different body language by doing activity one:
Look at the photos (from page 42,textbook)and discuss what you think each photo is
communicating
2.Provide students the photos (from page 42,textbook)and ask them to discuss.Then share the
answers with whole class together.

Perhaps they have just won a table tennis match. 3.Guide students to think and discuss the question: When and where do people need to use body language to communicate Suggested answer: It often needs to be used in situations where people cannot talk to each other directly. 4.Then provide three pictures and situations as examples: ①Army soldiers are on maneuvers ②People are reading in library. ③Deaf people use sign language. Step 3 Activity Two 1.Guide students listen to a conversation about body language,then finish the questions on page 42 activity 3.And circle the key word in each question together. clarify each answer by providing clips for each question. Answers: ①The man got the idea from an action movie. ②He used gestures to tell them how many bad guys were in the house.Then he gave instructions on who should go where,and what they should do. ③ The woman said that right now they are learning how to use body language to express themselves. ④The man meant that even though she was not very good at it,her experience was still worthwhile. Step 4 Activity Three 1.Guide students to know how to make inferences and provide three tips for them.Teacher helps to explain the tips. Three tips: ①Draw conclusions from background information; ②Look at clues from context; ③Use logic to work out the meaning. 2.Guide students to finish another listening task on page 42 activity 4,inferring whether the statements are True or False.Before starting,highlight the key word in each statement with the whole class together. Statements and the highlighted parts: ①The two speakers are mimtied. ②Making too many gestures in communication is not polite. ③The police team were probably succesgfil in catching the criminals. ④Both speakers think body language is usefil. ⑤The woman is mot seryoomfideml about her silent acting ability. 3.After listening,invite students to share their answers.Then teacher shows answers to the class. Answers ①False;The woman didn't know about the film the man watched,and the man didn't know about the woman's acting class. ②False;This is not mentioned in their conversation. ③True;This is not mentioned in their conversation. ④True;The man sent his friends hand signals,and the woman took acting classes,learning how to use body language to express themselves. ⑤True;The woman says that she was such an amateur. Step 5 Activity Four 1.Guide students to play a game to experience using body language by acting out a message without spoken language. 2.Explain the steps of the game to the class: ①1 performer; ②Performer act out a message only by body language. ③The rest class guess what the body language conveys. 3.Teacher shows an example,and asking students to guess what the teacher wants to convey.
4.Invite students to play the game and to experience body language. Step 6 Summary and homework 1.Guide students to summarize the main contents ofthis lesson.In this class,they have already: ①known different types ofbody language; ②practiced listening and learn to infer meaning; ③experienced using body language. 2.Check if students still have any questions about the class.Ifno,then go the homework section. 3.Explain the homework to the whole class:
① Discuss the three pictures (on page45,activity 3,textbook)and think what their body language
is telling. ②Write down your opinions and hand in by 8:00 a.m.tomorrow.
