Clothing is a language. We can know more about culture through traditional clothing.
Africa has a long history and a rich culture, and this is shown in traditional dress. The three colors—red, gold and green, are often used in the clothing. In Chinese restaurants, there are always paper placemats (餐具垫) with pictures of the zodiac animals (十二生肖). For most people in the US, this might be the deepest look they ever get from Chinese culture. One time, it led to laughs when we learned that my aunt is a rat (鼠).
We laughed because rats are animals in very poor status in our culture. They eat garbage and carry diseases, so we think they are dirty.
