The Louvre is one of the largest museums in the world, with a total area of over 60 acres, including 782,910 square feet of exhibition rooms. Philip Augustus built the Louvre as a fortress (堡垒) just outside the city walls in the 12th century to protect Paris from being attacked.
The Louvre didn’t become a palace until the 16th century under Francis I, who broke the tower and added two new wings. Later that century, Catherine de Medici had her own palace built in the Tuileries, which Henry IV joined to the Louvre to form a monumental (作为纪念的) double palace.
The Louvre began its first step toward becoming a museum in the 18th century, when the abandoned (废弃的) palace developed as an artists’ living place and academy with public exhibitions of the important collections. After the French Revolution, it was officially seen as a museum in 1793.
The Louvre Museum is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm from Thursday through Sunday, and until 9:45 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. The main entrance at the pyramid is open from 9:00 am until closing. The Porte des Lions is open from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm except on Tuesdays and Fridays. And visitors with pre-purchased (提前购买的) tickets or museum passes can enter at the Passage Richelieu, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Please note that the museum is closed on Tuesdays.

Museums are active centres of learning. In a science museum, people can learn about nature and technology as well as physics and chemistry. Visiting museums is a good choice to spend a holiday for people of all ages. But there’re some rules when visiting museums. Take an art museum,for example.
Keep quiet. You can talk, but keep the voice down and be polite to those around you. You should turn off your phone or put it on silent. Sounds from your phone may disturb(打扰) others. If a call must be made, you should go outside to make it.
Ask before taking photos. Some museums welcome visitors to photograph or videotape works of art. However, please be careful with the sign “no photography” which means taking photos is not allowed for that work or exhibition. If you take photos without permission, you will be in trouble. Welcome to the Museum of Failure! Maybe you haven’t heard about some of the things here. That’s because they are all a “failure”. On 7th June, 2017, the Museum of Failure opened in a town in Sweden. There are more than 60 failed products from all over the world on show at the museum.
Dr Samuel West set up the museum. It provides visitors with a learning experience about the important role of failure. Without laughing at failures, West hopes his museum can help us learn from our mistakes. “When we try out a new skill or learn something, it’s okay to fail, ” he says.
The museum also encourages companies to become better at learning from failure. One of the failed products on show is Apple Newton. It offers an example of how companies can turn failure into success. Created in 1993, Apple Newton failed to satisfy customers. Steve Jobs stopped producing it in 1998. Twelve years later, the company produced the successful iPad.
“By stopping it, we could work on new products, ” Jobs later said. “And finally we got it right when we moved on to iPhones and the iPad. ”
Getting all the products wasn’t easy for West. Many of them were bought on eBay and all of them were different from one another.

The Louvre is one of the largest museums in the world, with a total area of over 60 acres, including 782,910 square feet of exhibition rooms. Philip Augustus built the Louvre as a fortress (堡垒) just outside the city walls in the 12th century to protect Paris from being attacked.

Museums are active centres of learning. In a science museum, people can learn about nature and technology as well as physics and chemistry. Visiting museums is a good choice to spend a holiday for people of all ages. But there’re some rules when visiting museums. Take an art museum,for example.
Keep quiet. You can talk, but keep the voice down and be polite to those around you. You should turn off your phone or put it on silent. Sounds from your phone may disturb(打扰) others. If a call must be made, you should go outside to make it.

Welcome to the Museum of Failure! Maybe you haven’t heard about some of the things here. That’s because they are all a “failure”. On 7th June, 2017, the Museum of Failure opened in a town in Sweden. There are more than 60 failed products from all over the world on show at the museum.
Dr Samuel West set up the museum. It provides visitors with a learning experience about the important role of failure. Without laughing at failures, West hopes his museum can help us learn from our mistakes. “When we try out a new skill or learn something, it’s okay to fail, ” he says.
