教材分析 【What】 This article introduces the life of the musician Beethoven.Beethoven showed his musical talent even as a child.He rose to fame as a teenager.When he was young,he suffered a major blow and gradually lost his most valuable hearing as a musician.Since then,he has gone from despair to courage and, against all odds,continues to love the music business.The result is the magnificent Symphony No.9,which has a profound influence in the history of music. 【Why】This article aims to introduce the world music master Beethoven's work,guide students to learn his courage and indomitable spirit to fight against fate.Talent alone is not enough to make a person successful.Hard work and a strong will often become more important factors. 【How】The text of this paper is a biographical article,the biggest feature is the use of flashback writing techniques.The whole article takes Symphony No.9 as the main line,interspersed with the introduction of Beethoven's life. focusing on depicting his strong will in the face of setbacks.In terms of structure,the use of transitional sentences makes the content switching between paragraphs smooth and natural,with strong integrity
学情分析 This lesson is for sophomore students.They have mastered the vocabulary related to the subject,as well as the important grammar of the article,such as inversion sentences,emphatic sentences,nominal clauses,attributive clauses, etc.In addition,students are very interested in topics such as“celebrity stories” and“music”.At the same time,the topic is realistic and gives students something to talk about.However,students’cognition of Beethoven's story is still on the surface,but they have no systematic thinking on why and how Beethoven struggles with fate,which points out the direction for teachers' teaching.
教学目标 By the end of the class,Ss will learn: 1)some new vocabulary and phrases related to the subject; 2)some details about Beethoven's life journey and his symphony No.S 3)Ss will understand the beauty of foreign music culture 4)Ss will learn to respect Beethoven and try to learn his courage and indomitable spirit to fight against fate.

Engagement 1.Teacher shows Ss a short video about a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No.9. 2.After watching the video,the teacher asks some questions according to the content: Q1:Do you know the name of this song Q2:Who composed it What's audience response to the performance
Justification: The above steps are designed to attract students’interest and stimulate their thinking
Exploration 3.Ss predict the passage structure according to the title. 4.Group work:Read fast and think about these questions below to get the structure of the passage including some key points like“when”“what”“why” and“how”. Q1:What happened on 7 May 1824 in Vienna Q2:What was Beethoven's life journey like Q3:When did he lose his hearing Q4:Why was he so upset when he started losing his hearing Q5:How did he overcome this difficult Q6:How many parts does the Symphony No.9 have What are the characteristics of each part Q8:Can you draw the mind-map of the whole passage
