【教学过程】
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Warming up
Look at the pictures and answer the questions about the panda.
Pandas are our national treasure(国宝) and most of them are living in nature parks happily.
Step 2 Consolidate new words
Look and say. The teacher shows the pictures of new words and let the students to say as quickly as possible.
Step 3 Pre-reading
Say what you know about pandas
Work in pairs. Look at the pictures and say something about pandas.
Step 4 Reading
Read for prediction
Read the headings and predict what you think will be in each paragraph.
Scan the passage and check whether your predictions were correct.

Learning to learn
Sometimes you can learn new words through translation. For example, when you learn “government”, you can take a card and write the English word on one side and the Chinese on the other. Practise saying “government” and check that you remember the meaning.
Read Paragraphs 1&2 and answer the following questions.

do a lot of research表示“做大量研究”。
research是不可数名词。
produce表示“生育，繁殖”。
e.g. produce more babies
2. Each pandas needs to eat a lot of bamboo every day.
every 和 each的区别。
every “每”“各”，指三者或三者以上的整体，含有全体之意。
e.g. Every boy is here. （翻译）
所有男孩都在这儿。
each “每一”“每个”，指两个或两个以上的每一个，着重于个别，如团体中一个的人或物。
e.g. He spoke to each member of the team. （翻译）
他和队里的每个队员都说了话。
3. In order to protect pandas in the wild, the government is setting up nature parks and developing other plans.
set up 创建，创办
e.g. He wants to set up a school for the poor children. 他想为贫困地区的孩子创办一所学校。
In order (not) to do sth. “为了（不）做……”，后面接动词原形，表示目的。

develop v. 1) 研制；制定

3) 养成(习惯)

4. The nature parks will be big and there will be more bamboo to feed the pandas.
feed v. (fed) 喂养，饲养
feed on 以……为食

e.g. Sheep feed on grass. 羊吃草。
We feed sheep on grass. 我们喂给羊草吃。
Don’t feed grass to ducks. 不要给鸭子吃草。

人称：介绍 濒危动物时用第三人称，呼吁人们保护濒危动物时用第一人称。
介绍灭绝的原因时，可用first, second等表示列举的词来连接，使文章条理清晰，结构紧凑。
The tiger is an animal in danger. First, there are very few in the wild now. Second, the forests where tigers live are disappearing. Third, people are killing tigers. So tigers need forests to live in, and people need to stop killing them.
