Full-time undergraduate actively enrolled in related classes both the semester before
(Spring 2024)and the semester after(Fall 2024)the volunteer period.
Graduating seniors are only qualified if already accepted to or enrolled in graduate school
in meteorology or a related field the following fall.
Having an active interest in a future career with the NWS.
How do I apply
Applications for Summer 2024 will be open through January 14th,2024.
Please submit the required supporting documents to our official website by the above
deadline.
Some applicants may be requested to submit responses to written questions,participate in a
phone interview,or both,during January or February 2024,before student selections are made.
We expect to make selections for volunteers no later than mid to late February.

My family had a room that we called the Library,but even back then I knew it was just our
dining room with a few bookshelves around a small table.When I was a kid,I was told that all
these books are precious things-they must never be folded,bent,or broken.Any dirty marks or
notes on a book are banned and our reading should always be a clean activity since it's what
separates us from the beasts.Preservation of all texts was the most important thing in the world.
Years later,when I began reading everything I could in my early teens,I tiptoed into the
Library one day and discovered,to my horror,that all the books were still extremely new.It was
row after row,shelf after shelf.Something clicked and I knew I had found a horrible secret about
my family:they had bought these books to be displayed like jewellery,rather than to be read.
In that moment I knew that all those silly rules around reading and books were dead wrong
and that there was nothing sadder in this world than an unused book-clean,without any trace of
the reader at all.
Now here's the secret:good reading is messy reading.If I want the kind of novel that gets
deep into my bones,the sort of non-fiction mystery that stays with me years after the fact,then I
must bring sticky notes(便利贴)and let my books get scuffed(磨损)along the way..I should
always walk away from a book with visible progress of my reading.

(一)评分原则
1.本题满分15分，按5个档次给分。
2.评分时，先根据文章内容和语言初步确定所属档次，然后以该档次的要求来衡量，
确定或调整档次，最后给分。
3.词数少于60和多于100的，从总分中扣2分。
4.评分时应注意的主要内容：内容要点、应用词汇和语法结构的丰富性和准确性，以
及上下文的连贯性。
5.拼写和标点符号是语言准确性的一个方面，评分时，应视其对交际的影响程度予以
考虑。英、美拼写及词汇用法均可接受。
6.如书写较差以至于影响交际，将分数降低一个档次。

(二)评分标准
第V档(13-15分)：完全完成了试题规定的任务。覆盖所有内容要点，应用了较多的
语法和词汇。语法结构或词汇方面有些许错误，但为尽力使用较复杂结构或较高级词汇所
致：具备较强的语用能力。有效使用了语句间的连接成分，使全文结构紧凑。
第V档(10-12分)：完全完成了试题规定的任务。虽漏掉1-2个次重点，但覆盖所有
主要内容。应用的语法结构和词汇能满足任务要求。语法结构或词汇方面应用基本准确，
些许错误主要是因尝试较复杂语法结构或词汇所致。应用简单的语句间连接成分，使全文
结构紧揍。
第Ⅲ档(7-9分)：基本完成了试题规定的任务。虽漏掉一些内容，但覆盖所有主要内
容。应用的语法结构和词汇能满足任务要求。有一些语法结构或词汇方面的错误，但不影
响理解。应用简单的语句间连接成分，使全文内容连贯。整体而言，基本达到了预期的写
作目的。
第Ⅱ档(4-6分)：未适当完成试题规定的任务。漏掉或未描述清楚一些主要内容，语
法结构单调，词汇项目有限。有一些语法结构或词汇方面的错误，影响了对写作内容的理
解。较少使用语句间的连接成分，内容缺乏连贯性。
第I档(1-3分)：未完成试题规定的任务。明显漏掉主要内容，写了一些无关内容，
原因可能是未理解试题要求。语法结构单调，词汇项目有限。较多语法结构或词汇错误，
影响对写作内容理解。缺乏语句间连接成分，内容不连贯。
不得分：未能传达任何信息，或所写的内容太少，无法评判。写的内容均与所要求内
容无关，或所写内容无法看清。

Today,I want to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of driverless taxis.On the
positive side,these vehicles can reduce human error,save time,and decrease traffic accidents.
They are also environmentally friendly thanks to their intelligent control systems.However,
safety concerns arise as technology can fail or be hacked.Additionally,job displacement for
drivers is a significant issue.
In my view,driverless taxis are a step forward but must be managed carefully to reduce
risks and protect employment.We should balance innovation with human welfare.
