Unit 3 environmental protection
Reading and Thinking:Climate Change Requires World Attention
Good morning,dear judges.It's my great honor to be here to present my teaching design.
The content of my lesson is Senior English required elective course Book 3 Unit 3 Reading and thinking climate change requires the world's attention.
To begin with,I will introduce my basic teaching elements from the following perspectives.
1.Analysis of the basic teaching elements
① Teaching material analysis
The topic of this unit is environmental protection.By analyzing the causes of climate change and warning the impact of climate change,this text calls on all mankind to take appropriate actions to reduce carbon emissions and cope with global warming.
This text is an argumentative text.The full text consists of five paragraphs,the main part of which is carried out according to "phenomenon presentation---case evidence ---reason analysis ---harm analysis ---viewpoint countermeasures".The first paragraph shows the global climate changes dramatically and the earth becomes warmer and warmer.The case of starving polarbears in 2013 proves the impact of climate warming on the earth's ecology in paragraph 2. The third paragraph:Introduce two kinds of greenhouse effect,explore the causes of global warming;In the fourth paragraph,it is revealed that climate warming will bring about extreme weather and natural disasters that lead to loss of life and property. Paragraph 5:Give your opinion,respond to the question,and call on people around the world to take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming.
② Students analysis
The students of senior two have mastered basic reading skills. They have some life experience and basic knowledge of English;They can understand the basic English sentences; However,in face of complex vocabulary,they may find it difficult to have a good command of the passage,which means teacher's guidance is extremely important.Most of my students can not express themselves appropriately because their vocabulary is quite limited.Moreover,Their learning attitude and motivation is not clear.
③Analysis of the teaching objectives and core qualities
Knowledge objective: To understand the global environmental problems caused by climate
change
Ability objective:To improve students'reading ability,such as generalization,skimming,etc.
Through quick reading,find the topic sentences of paragraphs,summarize the general idea of
paragraphs,sort out the relationship between paragraphs,summarize the text structure,speculate the author's writing intention,and develop the ability of logical thinking.
Em otional goal: Guide students to understand the causes behind extreme climate change, understand the great impact of human activities on global climate,reflect on their own behavior, and then know how to mitigate the process of climate warming,starting from themselves,and become responsible and responsible people with a global vision.

1.Know about climate change and summarize the main idea of each paragraph; 2.Learn about“greenhouse effect”and describe how it works;
3.Be aware of the consequences of climate change and enhance awareness of environmental protection:
Through thinking about how to reduce carbon emissions,cultivate critical thinking ability and innovative thinking ability,improve the ability to analyze and solve problems.
4.Voice personal opinions on climate change.
Transfer what they have learned to daily life,and encourage students to become people who are demanding,caring for life,and have a sense of social responsibility.
⑤Analysis of the teaching methods and learning methods
To achieve the teaching objectives,there are three teaching methods used in this lesson.They are situational teaching method,task-based language teaching method and communicative teaching method.As for the learning method,students will be encouraged to adopt cooperative learning method to enhance their cooperative awareness.

[Design intention]Let students predict the content ofthe text according to the pictures and titles, and exercise their thinking ability.

Task 1 Read the text and find out the main idea of the text
What is the main idea of the text
The text mainly talks about the global climate change caused by the“man-made” greenhouse effect requires the world's attention.
Task2 Read the text and find out the main idea of each paragraph.

Keys:Because greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap some of the heat,keeping Earth's
climate warm and habitable.Without this process,Earth could not sustain life.
More heat energy is trapped in the atmosphere,which causes Earth's surface temperat ure to rise quickly.
4.What human activity will produce greenhouse gases and increase the“man-made” greenhouse effect

5.Why did the author mention the climate scientists'warning
Keys:Because the warming trend will cause great damage to human beings.
[Design intention]Deconstruct the text,guide students to use certain reading strategies,and integrate and interpret relevant information on the basis of processing surface information. Different paragraphs have different emphases.For example,the second paragraph focuses on content and forms an information chain based on the integration of different information points. The third paragraph,with language as the core,reaches a deeper understanding through the study of contrastive rhetoric.
Task 5 consolidation:fill in the blanks according to the text

[Design intention]The purpose of the interview task is to train students to repeat and consolidate the information and expressions acquired from the text,and try to establish meaningful connections with personal experiences or life,and enhance the sense of teamwork.
Step 5:Assignment:
1.Surf the Internet and find 3-4 reasons why people burn fossil fuels.
2.Read Paragraph 3 again and create your own diagram to describe how the greenhouse effect works.
3.Finish part of the students'worksheet.
[Design intention]The metacognitive strategy is used to search information and materials neededfor language learning through the Internet,enrich the cognition of the content discussed in the last activity of this class,and set up scaffolding for the migration and innovation activities of the next class.Visualizing the more complex popular science information about the greenhouse effect in the third paragraph with simple pictures helps students to master a convenient and efficient cognitive strategy and express it with the help of non-verbal information such as charts and graphs.Use relevant exercises to internalize and apply the language knowledge and text information learned in thislesson.
4.Blackboard design
The blackboard design is one of the highlight of the whole class.By experiencing that change from nothing to a whole one,students can have a better understanding of the text and internalize the information actively.
