教学目标
1. Students are able to write about their favorite singers or writers by giving the general introduction, detailed information (including experiences, achievements/works ...) and personal feelings. 2. Students are able to apply the three writing skills to improving their writing, and to evaluate their writing according to the checklist.
教学重难点
教学重点： 1. 准确描述一位喜爱的歌手或作家的相关信息，包括名字、成名时间、成就、作品等。
2. 正确使用一般现在时、一般过去时、现在完成时表达进行写作。
教学难点： 1. 围绕主题“My favorite singer or writer”，搭建写作框架，写出切合主题的作文。
2. 运用写作技巧对作文进行检查、修改及润色。
教学过程
Step 1. Lead in Do you have a favorite writer or singer Step 2. Review and check homework What do you know about Garth Brooks Step 3. Prepare for your own writing 1. Collect information of your favorite singer or writer. (1) Who is the singer/writer (2) When did the singer/writer first become famous (3) How and why did he/she first become famous (4) What famous songs/books has he/she recorded/written When (5) How many CDs/books has he/she sold (6) How did you find out about him/her (7) Is he/she still popular today (8) Have you introduced this singer/writer to others (9) How do you feel about his/her music/books (10) Have you ever played/sung his/her songs yourself 2. Analyze a sample passage. What’s the structure of the passage What’s the main idea of each part What is the person used in the passage What’s the tense used in the passage Step 4. Write a draft Write about your favorite singer or writer. Step 5: Revise and rewrite to build sub-skills Skill 1: Use correct tense of verbs to make the article clear and logical. 1. Read the draft and correct the mistakes in it. He has begun to play the piano at the age of 4. → He began to play the piano at the age of 4. ... since then he enjoyed great success in Asia. → ... since then he has enjoyed great success in Asia 2. More exercises: (Self Check) Skill 2: Use proper conjunctions to make the article coherent and natural. 1. Think about how to connect these sentences together: He is a great singer. He is a skilled songwriter. →He is not only a great singer but also a skilled songwriter. I like his songs. His songs can bring so much joy to my life. →I like his songs because his songs can bring so much joy to my life. 2. Learn about more conjunctions or linking phrases which can be used in writing. Skill 3: Use descriptive adjectives and adverbs to make the article vivid and specific. 1. Read the highlighted words in the passage and compare it with the one without these words. How do you feel about these words Which passage do you think is better Step 6. Evaluate and improve Try to evaluate and improve your own writing according to the checklist shown. Step 7. Homework Must do: 1. Revise your writing according to the checklist. 2. Finish Task 1 and Task 3 in Self Check Part. Choose to do: Exchange your writing with your partner and evaluate each other’s writing.
