T greets Ss and asks Ss to chant together; 2. T introduces the learning objectives of this lesson. Justification: Ss know the learning objectives of this lesson and they will have more confidence. Step 2: Introduce Peppa’s problem 1. T will introduce Peppa pig’s WeChat moment and ask students to observe the facial expression of Peppa. 2. T makes a phone call to her and lets students listen carefully about her problem. 3. T invites a student to say Peppa’s problem. 4. T will ask students to watch the video and find more details about Peppa’s problem. (before watching the video, T will explain the five questions). 5. T checks Ss’ answers to the five questions. Justification: This step can help Ss analyze a problem from different aspects. (who, when, what, why and how); Ss can improve their listening and observing ability. Step 3: presentation of friends’ advice to Peppa 1. T shows Ss the advice given by Peppa’s WeChat friends one by one. Then, She will ask Ss to observe the basic sentence structure used for giving advice. 2. T asks Ss to say more sentence structures that are used for giving advice. Justification: This step is designed to help Ss discover the common sentence patterns by themselves. Students’ prior knowledge about how to give advice will be activated. Step 4 Presentation and analysis of the three conjunctions T asks Ss to observe the four pieces of advice again and find out the conjunctions. T will use questions to help them find out the function of the three conjunctions – although, so that, and until. As for the usage of “although”, T will present the most important rule – “although” and “but” can’t be in one sentence at the same time. When it comes to “so that”, T will ask Ss to concentrate on the sentence after it and think about what it shows – “Does ‘she can say sorry to you’ show the result or the purpose ”. In this way, Ss will understand that the sentence after “so that” shows the aim or the purpose of the prior sentence. In terms of “until”, T will underline “she calls you next time” and highlight that “until” is followed by the time. Justification: by explaining and guiding Ss to find out the rules behind “although”, “so that”, and “until”, students will have a basic understanding of their meanings and functions. Step 5 Practice of giving advice T asks Ss to play an advice chain game. The rule is: when the music stops, S who has the toy should say one piece of advice to Peppa. T makes another WeChat phone call to Peppa and ask her how’s everything going now. Justification: Ss can use the target sentence structures to give advice to Peppa. Ss are able to use the three conjunctions in this step. Step 5 Practice of giving advice and the three conjunctions T invites Ss to give advice to Gorge by using different conjunctions and sentence structures; After Ss giving their advice, T will ask Ss to compare the two types of advice and say which one is better. T asks Ss to finish the exercises on page 28. T summarizes the important points when giving good advice to others. Justification: With the help of the basic structures, Ss will feel easier to use the target language to use it; Ss will realize that conjunctions help them to express their meanings more clearly; Ss will able to use the three conjunctions correctly when giving advice. Step 6 Summary T asks Ss to think about the question of “how to give good advice to others so that they can take your advice T presents some of her ideas and show her opinion. Then, T leads Ss to summarize the lesson and asks Ss to think positively when facing problems. Justification: Ss will realize that it’s common to have problems and be brave to speak their problems out.
