Welcome to the unit
一、板块定位
本单元话题为“兴趣爱好”,属于“人与自我”主题范畴下的“生活与学习” 主题群中“丰富、充实、积极向上的生活”子主题。涉及的语篇类型有图片、对话、 音频、视频、人物描写、表格、诗歌、问卷等。本单元的教学旨在帮助学生认识到兴趣爱好对于知识学习、人际交往、人生目标制订的重要性,鼓励学生培养丰富有益的兴趣爱好,促进学生积极与同伴交往,合理规划课余活动并初步思考未来职业选择。 整个单元的七个板块分别涉及“兴趣爱好”的多个层面。
Welcome to the unit 板块通过一系列有关七年级(1)班四位同学的兴趣爱好的图片激活学生已有的知识经验,帮助学生认识和了解不同的活动与爱好;两名同学对爱好的讨论也引导学生初步认识爱好的益处,同时为本单元的学习做好热身准备。开放性提问引导学生谈论朋友及家人的兴趣爱好。
本板块通过图文和音频将学生带入“和新同学分享和交流彼此的兴趣爱好”的情境,并在该语境中输入描述兴趣爱好和阐释理由的词汇和语言表达,着重培养学生看、听、说的语言技能,引发学生对兴趣爱好的关注与好奇,引导学生分析、辨别兴趣爱好的真正内涵,为单元学习做好热身。
二、教学目标
通过本课时学习,学生能够:
1.获取、识记和理解七年级(1)班学生的喜欢的活动及爱好,提取和归纳相关词汇和语言表达;
2. 分析、辨别爱好的真正内涵如什么是爱好、发生频率及意义;
3. 运用相关词汇和语言表达,开展同伴问答活动,与同伴交流家人和朋友的兴趣爱好,引发对兴趣爱好的关注与好奇;
4. 总结兴趣爱好的真正内涵,点出单元主题、引出单元学习目标。
三、教学设计
Step 1. Lead-in
Have students watch a video and answer the following questions.
1. What is the video about
2.What are the girl’s hobbies in the video
3. Can the girl have so many hobbies at the same time?Why or why not
Possible answer (1)Hobbies. (2)She likes/loves playing the guitar, reading books, drawing, watching TV, cooking, singing, dancing, listening to music playing games, swimming, hiking, taking photos, playing basketball and riding a bike/bicycle. (3)Yes. Because we can like many things and do many things at the weekend. No. Because we can not do many things at the same time and we do not have much time.
设计意图:通过视频引出主题hobbies,并通过视频主人公的14个爱好引导学生思考:一个人可以同时有如此多的爱好吗?什么才算是真正的爱好?激发学习兴趣,形成学习期待。同时积累关于各种活动的表达,为介绍hobby做好语言准备。
Step 2. Part A
Have students finish A on page 19.

设计意图:借助图片感知和理解各种各样的兴趣爱好,着重培养学生看的技能。同时积累词汇表达,辨析爱好和活动的区别。
Step 3. Part B
Listening
Have students listen to Amy and Millie’s conversation and answer the following question.
(1)What are their hobbies
(2)How often does Amy go swimming
(3)If something is a hobby, we will do it.
Answer Millie loves reading and Amy likes swimming. She goes swimming every week. Often
Reading
Have students read the conversation after the tape and answer three more questions.
(1) What does reading bring to Millie
(2) What does swimming bring to Amy
(3) What do hobbies bring us

Further thinking
Have students review Daniel’s self-introduction and answer the questions
(1) What does playing football bring to Simon
(2) What do hobbies bring us beside benefits
Possible answer (1) Playing football helps him stay healthy and happy. (2) joy
Discussion
What else can hobbies bring us Why
You can read Danile’s self-introduction again and discuss with your partners.
Possible answer Hobbies can bring us friends and ability because Daniel help classmates with math problems. Hobbies can bring us love and companion because Daniel plays ping-pong with his father at the weekend. Hobbies can bring us peace because when we read books, it is really peaceful and quiet. Hobbies can bring us money because we can earn money by taking photos.
设计意图:通过听、读、说一系列活动,获取和梳理他人的兴趣爱好,归纳和整理描述和评价兴趣爱好的核心语言,分析总结爱好的真正内涵与意义。
Step 4. Part C
Have students work in pairs and talk about their own/their friend’s/family member’s hobby according to the following structure.
Possible answer A: What’s your/your friend’s/mother’s/father’s/sister’s/brother’s favourite hobby B: I/He/She love(s)/like(s)/enjoy(s) … A: How often do you/does he/she … B: I/He/She … A: Why do you/ does he/she like … B: Because it helps …/it brings…
Ask some students to show their conversation to the class.
设计意图:结合学生实际,交流和描述自己、家人、朋友的兴趣爱好并做简要评价,旨在引导学生认识兴趣爱好在同伴交往方面的重要性,实现由课内到课外的知识迁移,同时为单元的学习做好情感、话题和语言准备。
Step 5: Summary
Have students summarize what they learn in this class and what the word “joy” mean in this unit.
Show learning objectives
In this unit, we will read about some students’ hobbies; learn about after-school clubs at Sunshine Middle School; talk and write about our hobbies; think about why hobbies are important for us.
设计意图:总结本节课重点,思考hobbies带来的“joy”是关于哪些方面?点出单元主题、引出单元学习目标。
