Pre-reading Let’s know 1.Present a common method of weighing an elephant to students --- using a large scale. 2.Arouse the target question--- How to weigh an elephant without a large scale Students know the method and think about the question. To help students get ready for reading and understanding the story of Cao Chong weighs an elephant.
While-reading Let’s skim Introduce the method that Cao Chong used over 2000 years ago, and ask students to skim the story to get the main idea and the know the main content of the story by finishing a task “put the sentences in right order” Students skim the story to get the main idea and finish the task. To help students generally understand the article.
Let’s scan Scan and understand the article and think about these questions: What do they weigh Who weighs the elephant Why does Cao Chong weigh the elephant in this way How does Cao Chong weigh the elephant Students read the story carefully and think about the four questions that can help them deeply understand the story. To help students learn to get detailed and specific information by using key words and scanning article.
Let’s conclude Summarize Cao Chong’s method and steps of weighing the elephant. Students conclude the method and steps that Cao Chong used to weigh an elephant. To help students learn to conclude and extract key information while reading.
Let’s discuss Ask students if there are some other ways to weigh an elephant. Students think other reasonable ways to weigh an elephant. To expand and help students think broadly and let them know the result.
Post-reading Let’s retell Ask students to retell the story and present students some keys to help them. Let’s learn Lessons and morals we can get from the story. Homework Assign the homework: Level A: Read these two passages. Level B: Retell the story “Cao Chong weighs an elephant”. Level C: Recite these two passages. Level D: Make a poster to introduce other wise kids in history. Students finish the homework according to their levels. To make students master the content they learned.
教学反思
In this lesson, teacher’s role should be a facilitator and organizer in class. I attach much importance to the value of topic in my class. Put the discussion into a certain situation, arouse students’ interests, illumine students' thinking, help them have a comprehensive understanding of knowledge, make them learn in fun.
