Insider Flight Tips for Your Journey
Anyone can book a trip, but not everyone can plan an ultimate adventure that is affordable, accommodating and fun. At www. tripinsiders. org, we aim to provide you with the best insider secrets in the travel business. And on this website, we also offer a state-of-the-art travel comparison tool to make planning easier than ever. Here are some insider tips that we'd like to share with you about flights.
Look for Glitch (小故障) Fares
Online booking systems for airfare don’t come without a pricing mistake every once in a while. Follow deal-minded travel sites and blogs to learn about pricing mistakes that work in your favor. This is the most useful if you live near a major airport and have a flexible schedule.
Consider Alternate Airports
Some major cities have more than one airport, so make sure to check them all for the cheapest fares. For
example, if you’re planning to visit the Bay Area of California, check for rates in both San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport.
Cross the Border by Land
Domestic flights are often cheaper than international ones, so if you live near a border and want to fly to a neighboring country, you can save by crossing the border by land and then catching a domestic flight. For example, Toronto residents may save by crossing the American border into Buffalo and then flying to another American city.
Use a Digital Luggage Scale
There’s nothing more frustrating than learning that your bag is too heavy to fly or that it’ll cost you extra when you arrive at the airport. Digital luggage scales are great for making sure that you’re not going over the baggage limit with your new souvenirs.
21. What is the main purpose of www.tripinsiders.org
A. To recommend travel websites. B. To fund the travel business.
C. To uncover travel business secrets. D. To advertise a travel agency.
22. What is advised for air travel
A. Flying the border. B. Selecting airports.
C. Carrying more baggage. D. Having a fixed schedule.
23. What do the four tips have in common
A. They help travelers save money. B. They cover all aspects of a trip.
C. They merely apply to businessmen. D. They are only for Toronto residents.

Are your keys not in the spot you thought you left them Can’t recall the title of a book I’ve had those moments. Such instances of “brain freeze” remind us that we should do everything in our power to keep our brains sharp.
A new study finds Tai Chi study can help slow cognitive (认知的) decline and protect against dementia (痴呆). The study included about 300 older adults, in their mid-70s on average, who had all reported that their memory was not as good as it used to be.
As part of the study, all the participants took a 10-minute test called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. A normal score is 26-30. A person who scores between 18 and 25 is considered to have mild impairment (损害), which means they don’t have dementia but they’re not as sharp as they used to be and may need to work harder to maintain everyday activities. Once their score drops under 18, people experience quite a bit of impairment from memory loss and cognitive decline.
The average score of participants at the start of the study was 25. The study found that people who practiced a simplified form of Tai Chi twice a week for about six months improved their score by 1.5 points, meaning that they’re going to get three extra years before they hit that decline into dementia.
Researchers also tested a more stricter type of Tai Chi, called Cognitively Enhanced Tai Chi, where they provided extra challenges. For example, participants were asked to spell a word, backward and forward, as they moved through a series of Tai Chi moves. The people who practice this type of cognitively enhanced Tai Chi improved their scores by about 3 points, meaning they are given six extra years of cognitive function.
The theory on why Tai Chi is effective is that it combines the memorization of the movements, known as forms, almost like composing dancing moves.
24. Why are two questions raised in the first paragraph
A. To present the author’s doubts. B. To expect answers from readers.
C. To introduce the main topic of the text. D. To analyze the causes of forgetfulness.
25. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.Cognitive assessment methods. B. The process of running the test.
C. The test results of the participants. D. Cognitive measurement criteria.
26. What does the pre-best average score of the participants imply
A. Most of them suffer from, dementia. B. They remain as quick-minded as before.
C. They can protect themselves against dementia. D. Many of them have slight cognitive decline.
27. Why does Tai Chi have a positive impact
A. It involves mind-body movements. B. It helps resolve challenges.
C. It puts off cognitive decline by three years. D. It improves the participants academic level.

Kids can boost their brainpower by cooking, gardening and cleaning around the house, according to new research. A study of 207 children found regular household tasks—like making meals and caring for plants—are associated with better planning, self-regulation and remembering instructions. Lead researcher Deanna Tepper said the results suggest housework could have benefits for children's executive (执行的) functioning.
Collected from children aged 5 to 13, the results show older children are more likely to do housework than younger ones and girls do more housework than boys. For example, only 49 per cent of boys but 70 per cent of girls make their own bed. Loading the dishwasher is a job for 55 per cent of children, including 50 per cent of boys and 61 per cent of girls. Only 34 per cent of five to seven-year-olds do this task, rising to 64 per cent of those aged 11 to 13.“Parents may be able to use age- and ability-appropriate housework to assist with the development of executive functions,” Ms Tepper said.
“Children who cook a family meal or weed the garden on a regular basis may be more likely to excel in other aspects of life—like schoolwork or problem solving.” Ms Tepper said making a meal or cooking for others is linked to better working memory and the ability to think before acting.
“Typically, these skills begin to develop in early childhood and continue to develop into late adolescence (青春期) and early adulthood,” Ms Tepper said. “Damage or delays in executive functioning development can lead to difficulties in the ability to self-regulate, plan and problem-solve, having effects later in life on reading performance and mathematical ability, as well as overall academic achievement in later childhood.”
The study was conducted during Covid lockdowns, with half of parents reporting that their child was doing the same amount of housework as before the pandemic (流行病) and 37 per cent saying their child was doing more.
28.How can doing housework benefit children
A.By keeping their physical health. B.By helping them learn more skills.
C.By making their parents love them more. D.By improving the power of their brain.
29.What does the new research data focus on in paragraph 2
A.Time and efficiency. B.Gender and age.
C.Status and discipline. D.Mood and intelligence.
30.What does the underlined word “excel” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Be better. B.Be calmer. C.Be braver. D.Be lovelier.
31.What can executive functions bring for children
A.Rapid progress in acting. B.Quality of pitying others.
C.Wonderful achievements in school. D.Chance of challenging authorities.

Teachers across America are struggling to decide whether to view artificial intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT as friends or enemies in the classroom. Our study on whether AI affects student creativity shows that the answer isn’t always simple.
In the study, we asked college students to brainstorm — without technology — all the ways a paper clip can be used. A month later, we asked them to do the same, but using ChatGPT. We found that AI can be a useful brainstorming tool, quickly generating ideas that can spark creative exploration. But there are also potential negative effects on students’ creative thinking skills and self-confidence. While students reported that it was helpful to “have another brain”, they also felt that using AI was “the easy way out” and didn’t allow them to think on their own.
The results call for a thoughtful approach to using AI in classrooms and striking a balance that inspires students’ creativity while utilizing AI’s capabilities. The good news is that the students in our study generated more diverse and detailed ideas when using AI. They found that AI was useful for kick-starting brainstorming sessions.
When it comes to brainstorming with AI, some students voiced concerns about over-reliance on the technology, fearing it might hurt their own thoughts and, consequently, confidence in their creative abilities. Some students reported a “fixation of the mind”, meaning that once they saw the AI’s ideas, they had a hard time coming up with their own. Some students also questioned the originality of ideas generated by AI. Our research noted that while using ChatGPT improved students’ creative output individually, the AI’s ideas tended to be repetitive overall.
The study results indicate that allowing students to practice creativity independently first will strengthen their belief in themselves and their abilities. Once they complete this, AI can be useful in furthering their learning, much like teaching long division to students before introducing a calculator. That’s to say, teaching students to be creative thinkers rather than rely on AI for answers is the key to answering the question mentioned above.
32.Why were the students required to use ChatGPT after a month in the study
A.To make a comparison. B.To clarify a concept.
C.To explain a definition. D.To present an argument.
33.What does the underlined word “utilizing” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Learning. B.Designing.
C.Having control of. D.Taking advantage of.
34.What does paragraph 4 focus on concerning AI
A.Its limited creativity. B.Its negative aspects.
C.Its reliable originality. D.Its potential development.
35.What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph
A.The future of AI use is uncertain. B.Traditional teaching still has a place.
C.Human creativity should come first. D.AI’s capabilities are unquestionable.

David's parents left him forever in a car accident. He was brought up by his dear grandma, who was now in her eighties and in poor health. David was so excellent at his studies that he was admitted into his ideal college. He developed friendship with Christ when they were seated next to each other on the first college day. They were like brothers.
Whenever Christ was challenged with those difficult courses, David was always there to help Christ. Christ showed his thanks to David from the bottom of his heart, saying, “Without your help, I couldn't get on well with my studies. I really don't know how to repay your help.” David responded, “We are good friends. It's natural for us to help each other.”
It was the early morning of Saturday. David had a fever and couldn't get out of bed. Christ took good are of him. He cooked David some soup and then gave him some medicine. He thought a sound sleep would help David get better. David felt comforted with the care of his friend. Then he fell asleep.
David didn't know how long it had been before he woke up. He saw some food which was newly cooked on the table and there was also a note, which read, “Take the food and you will get better. I need to be away for several days. Take good care of yourself. Christ.” He didn't detail David about what he was going to do. Later someone told David that Christ bought a bus ticket to David's hometown. David felt confused. But he thought that maybe Christ had something personal to attend to and it was not suitable to tell him.
On Monday, David got better and went to classes. Obviously, Christ was not there. He missed the classes.

第四部分 写作
第一节:One possible version:
Good evening, everyone! It's a great honour to share with you my opinions on what to do in senior high school.
In the coming three years, your school life will be challenging sometimes. On the one hand, you should learn to study efficiently, adopting effective methods. As a matter of fact, developing a good study habit is of great importance.
On the other hand, in senior high school, you are supposed to learn how to get along well with others. You ought to respect teachers and be friendly with classmates. It is with kindness that we can create a friendly atmosphere.
I'm sure if we can really make great efforts, we can realize our dreams in the future.
Thank you!
第二节 :One possible version:
In the evening, Christ came back and meanwhile David received a call from his grandma, requesting whether Christ had returned to the college safely. Surprised, David asked why she mentioned Christ. It turned out that when she called David last Saturday, he was sleeping and failed to receive her call. Then she called Christ. Knowing she fell ill, Christ went over to take her to see a doctor. Christ did not tell David about her condition. That's because she asked Christ to do so. She did not want David to worry about her. Christ looked after her until she got well.
On learning about this, David suddenly realized the truth. The fact is that Christ took the bus to David's hometown to look after David's sick grandmother without telling David. Deeply moved, David hurried to Christ's room and expressed his sincere gratitude for taking care of his grandma while he was ill. David said he was willing to repay what Christ had done for him. Then, David treated Christ to a big dinner and helped Christ to make up for the classes he had missed. The friendship between the two brothers became stronger.
